Anyone else think this song is underrated??
Jeez...I've listened to this song a lot, but I just got the lyrics....God is the bank for my river; guiding me through life....He breaks the mirrors when I try to judge or shame myself. This song just got 10 times more beautiful!

How awesome to discover them at 72, just saw them live in Cleveland Ohio for the first time & I never sat down once. NeedToBreathe is a National treasure, something I never thought I'd find again in the music world. It was pure ecstasy for me at that concert !

I love how the lyrics explain how the banks of a river compare to His protection and keeping us close to Him. The banks give the river boundaries yet also allows direction of flow and they narrow when necessary. Just my observation
me and my mom were trying to figure out what it means. we thought it was like a parent to child relationship but that one makes sense
That analysis works for the specific line, but I don't think it's the gist of the entire song.

If the whole song was about the relationship between God and us, that line would make no sense. God should and certainly is the one to take control of us. I think it's about being there for your spouse while at the same time giving them space.

@@ethanrops5714 I think it can take whatever meaning the reader needs; but I see this as a beautiful song for first dance at a wedding :-) However, having worked with friends who have interacted with troubled teens, I can so see this between a father/mother and a child. Birth, Foster, Adopted .... either way it is beautiful!
