+RichaadEB Thanks Richaad! That means a whole lot coming from you :). Like Ace I have a lot of different instruments, but he's so much better at playing his! I love watching your collabs with him-- you guys compliment each other in the best way. PS: I hope San Diego is treating you well!
Man, if Nintendo ever releases some kind of HD version of the Earthbound soundtrack, they oughta hire you. You hit the nail right on the head with the feel of these remakes
@Steven Morris it's little things that differentiate a good channel from an exceptional channel. Just discovered your work in 2022 and am greatly enjoying it! Your EB arrangements are stunning!
Great job on this. Very accurate recreation of the theme that has many elements and sounds going on. And I totally geeked over the shot of the eggs and bananas. I was literally like THAT'S JUST LIKE THE ONE PLACE IN TOWN.
Thanks for watching! Not everyone gets that eggs & bananas thing either :P. It was one of the many aspects of the village that creeped me out as a kid playing that game.
Haha that is awesome! I'm happy you find this fitting-- out of curiosity, are you already familiar with EarthBound or was it a kind of incidental discovery while you were doing research on deranged cults?
god dammit I'm kinda mad that your videos have so little views. you do the best earthbound covers out there. totally nailed the atmosphere of this song. really good job man
Thank you so much for the compliments! Shares go a long way for RUclips musicians :). I definitely have more EarthBound in the works-- might be a little while before I can release some new tracks though.
This is my favourite EarthBound cover on RUclips, you've got the synth sounds absolutely spot on. And the eggs and bananas were so random it was funny :D
Thanks! I had a lot of fun doing both this and the Threed cover. They both have this spooky & eerie vibe that I strangely enjoy :). One of my favorite things about covering EarthBound is that there is such a huge variety of music in the game. To me, that says a lot about its composers!
TheWaffleFactory Totally! It's such a cool ambient piece. There was a lot of cool ambient SNES music coming out in '94/'95 in games like EB, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country(ries?), and Secret of Evermore. The interesting thing about EarthBound's ambient music (and music in general) is they treated the sound chip like a sampler in the musical equipment sense of the word in that they would sample different sounds or pieces of music and alter the speed and things like that. It really gave the game a unique feel in my opinion. When the game was new (granted it came out a year late in the US), people were ragging on the graphics. I think a lot of the game's memory was used for the music & sound. Ironically, the graphics have become iconic and have withstood the test of time better than just about any other game.
I hear this song now 2 times and I can tell you that I can hear her much more. Very very fine tune my friend..Lovely how the music find his way.....Thank so much my dear friend. Lovely greetings from atti
psychedelic music is always nice. Like to play with sounds..do not have to be always music. Like playing with a modular...Makes lots of fun Thanks Steven
+Atti Klancnik I agree with you-- not all sounds inside of a musical piece have to be 'music' in the traditional sense. That's something I've grown to appreciate more and more :). As always, I appreciate your comment!
+Soundole VGM Covers Thanks! For this one, I actually opted to play the notes of the chords mostly separately, so I could modulate and detune each independently. I thought people were going to not like this because of how out of tune (of course the original is that way as well) it is!
You definitely nailed the uneasiness of this song... the way the organ oscillates almost out of tune is spot-on to the original (not sure what the term for that is)
+saabturbografx Haha, I know what you mean! I constantly have EarthBound music playing in my head :D. I appreciate it, but I have to take a raincheck on your offer though-- I am going to be pretty busy for the next couple of months. Someday though!
+PegsterMcDudeson Thanks! Ironically, I did not have access to my koto while I lived in Japan, so I've been separated for most of the time that I've owned it. It's such an interesting instrument. It can really capture a lot of different styles-- you can get some amazingly creepy sounds out of it ;)
+saabturbografx Yea man... my mom threw out our box! You got a great deal on it, even for back then! I remember getting ours used a little before '97 and it was definitely more (ironically, we got it at 'Games 4 Less').
+Betsy7Cat Thanks Betsy! I did my best to transcribe the song (including all the weird pitchy stuff) before making my arrangement... perhaps I got too close this time! I thought the weird guitar pedal 'solo' at the end would help change it up though :). Thanks, as always, for watching!!
+Roxas335 Thank you! I'm happy I went with the koto for that part :). It just so happens that there are 13 unique tones for this part in the original, and the koto has exactly 13 strings! It was a natural fit-- of course I had to tune it all funky to work with this song :P. Thanks again for checking this out!
+HΞX MΛИIΛC † CHЯISTIΛN That was totally the idea ;). It's the same kind of instrument, although I'm sure the one George Harrison & Co. used was a bigger one! If you're interested, it's called a tambura.
Oh thanks! Now I can find that specific sound rather than looking for,"sitar music" heheh #^^# Thanks for the cover by the way. I've always liked this track and wondered why no one did anything with it. Until now of course. ;D
+W. deflect Thanks! Disorienting is a great adjective for that town- and it's the mood I wanted to evoke with this cover :). As far as my instruments go... I've amassed a collection over the years. Actually, I have almost had my Koto for 10 years now! Some of them I bought while getting paid in Yen, which at the time was really strong. I was barely able to afford the Rhodes though!
***** I don't recall having publicly stated why I lived in Japan. I never really thought anyone would be interested! I actually studied Japanese for quite a while and ended up working there (I also went to a bit of school as well) and living there for a while before ultimately deciding to move back to California.
Thanks for the cool comment! I'll do my best to get some more of this kind of stuff out there as I enjoy it very much :). If you haven't yet, check out my cover of Threed, also from EarthBound. It has a little bit more of a spooky vibe, but they have similarities.
I know you already did Snowman, do you think you can do Winters next? That's another favorite of mine from the game. And it's a good song for the snowy holiday season.
+KrakenJack There are actually a couple of interesting covers with lyrics on RUclips! It's not a very commonly covered song though :) Thanks for watching!!
I'd love to put my Koto to more use~ hopefully I can come across some tracks that would suit the instrument. As for the other instrument, it's actually a tamboura, which is like a drone instrument. I'm hoping to put that to heavy use on an upcoming project ;)
Ah, my mistake! Tanpura and sitar are both wonderful instruments. I could recommend you several Mario desert tracks that would work beautifully with tanpura.
I'm late to the party on these vids, but just had to say that you're a super talented musician who, judging by subs and views, does NOT have the exposure they deserve! Thanks so much for your content.
This is excellent. Easily better than vast majority of other covers they have 10x views. That's a nice synth, I merely have a novation bass station 2, but it does the job. Blue blue.
+Nick H Thank you :). Also LOL@ 'Blue Blue' in reference to the Bass Station 2. That is actually a really awesome looking synth. I'm a big fan of the form factor. It came out right after I got my MoPho actually. I'm sure I would have seriously considered getting one had it been out when I was shopping for an analog mono synth :).
+Steven Morris Yeah, I am pretty happy with it. If you want to hear some of the music I've created partially through it check out the first two tracks on my soundcloud: soundcloud.com/chaosnick/tracks I played a DS Prophet 6 today. Sick. If I ever have an extra $2800 lying around I'll definitely get one..how'd you come by the Tampura? Love classical Indian music. Koto is cool, though I'm more familiar with Guzheng.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing your music :). You are creating some great rhythms! Those Prophet 6's look and sound beautiful. I've never owned a polyphonic analog like that... I think it would be such a useful instrument! I don't remember how I got the tamboura... I remember ordering it off of the internet... like 10 years ago 0_0. The Guzheng looks awesome BTW! It's like the older brother (or sister, perhaps?) of the koto. I'm sure it's where the koto's roots are, after all. The extra strings look really useful, actually. I often feel like the 13 of the koto is limiting, but at the same time tuning is hard enough with that many strings :P. It's a great instrument for sound effects though!!
+ENGINEER THECOWBOY Thank you for checking this out! There is always more in the works :D. EarthBound has such an amazing soundtrack with so many songs... I always have an EB cover high on my list :)
ENGINEER THECOWBOY That's an awesome idea-- great imagination!! I think I know what you mean when you say that. It's been on my list-- I'll definitely have to go for it one of these days :)
+Luis Thanks! As if the first area of the game hadn't sold it already, Twoson and its surrounding areas sealed the deal for me :). I've always thought Happy Happy Village was very humorous while at the same time creepy and real.
Steven Morris It's a place that really evolves in the game, and many things happen and the player passes a lot of time on it, it's just a very special place in the game. I really like the way they make it.
+pierre11167 Thanks for watching :D. I've never made that connection before, but now that you mention it, I think there are some interesting similarities. Very good ear!
+subversiveasset Not even close (as much as I try!) :P Besides, none of my instruments are as technical as something like the sax! Thanks for watching!
It's definitely something I've had in mind for a while and is something that can bridge my VGM stuff with my synthesizer stuff :). Hopefully I'll try to go for it sooner rather than later!
+saabturbografx The Pilotwings 64 results screen is a deep cut! That's my kinda music too :) Great choice! Just gotta work out that Rhodes solo! It'll be a while, but I definitely want to go for that one. BTW this is almost embarrassing, but I have yet to play Persona!
hte beginning of the video smells like chicken nuggets
shit you're right
yeah
Blue blew bleu bloo hmm I need more work.
Holy crap you nailed the earthbound feel. Tripathon.
+Zurachi Thank you for the compliments!! "Tripathon" is an awesome word btw :D
What's your favorite color and why is it blue?
Steven Morris for sonic
For the sea
For my religion
blue blue
blue because blue is happy. blue blue.
Steven Morris actually blue is my favorite color.
this is fucking incredible, steven. I feel like between you and ace there's likely the extent of known musical instruments.
+RichaadEB Thanks Richaad! That means a whole lot coming from you :). Like Ace I have a lot of different instruments, but he's so much better at playing his! I love watching your collabs with him-- you guys compliment each other in the best way. PS: I hope San Diego is treating you well!
+Steven Morris lol yeah ace is a babe. SD has been awesome so far man! Keep making these!
weird to find you here rich...
Blue... blue... red.. darn I'm bad at this.
Stellar work man.
+SwigglesRP Haha, thanks!
It’s green not red
Man, if Nintendo ever releases some kind of HD version of the Earthbound soundtrack, they oughta hire you. You hit the nail right on the head with the feel of these remakes
You absolutely captured the weird quirky humor with the banana and eggs
Well done man
Thanks! That part always stuck with me for some reason, so I knew I wanted to add that into the video :)
That random shot of eggs and bananas lmao!! Such great work, sir. Thanks so much for this.
+TheLordEmperorBlkrse Thank you!! I knew I had to do that shot haha. I felt like and idiot setting it up, but it was worth it XD
@Steven Morris it's little things that differentiate a good channel from an exceptional channel. Just discovered your work in 2022 and am greatly enjoying it! Your EB arrangements are stunning!
Amazing!
What I love about this video:
- The wood sticks
- The string instruments
- Eggs and Bananas Shot
+Marimba Maurice Haha thank you!! I'm glad I shot those Eggs & Bananas-- I felt like such a fool setting that shot up LOL
This song could have never been more fitting while I research deranged cults...
Haha that is awesome! I'm happy you find this fitting-- out of curiosity, are you already familiar with EarthBound or was it a kind of incidental discovery while you were doing research on deranged cults?
Yep, I have already played EarthBound a tad too many times! (Also I don´t think a "cult following" qualifies as a deranged cult XD)
LOL @cult following! Happy to hear you're a big EarthBound fan!
Wow, spot on cover. Captured the original perfectly while making it sound enhanced.
+RockEsper Thanks for the kind words! I always loved the vibe of the Happy Happy Village music and really wanted to capture it with live instruments.
god dammit I'm kinda mad that your videos have so little views. you do the best earthbound covers out there. totally nailed the atmosphere of this song. really good job man
Thank you so much for the compliments! Shares go a long way for RUclips musicians :). I definitely have more EarthBound in the works-- might be a little while before I can release some new tracks though.
Really captured the earthbound feel :) Great Job
+Twilight Yoshi Thank you very much!
No problem.
Sounds trippy as hell man... good work as always!
+Delicious Shrimp Thank you DS!
I just saw the eggs and the bananas!! NICE touch!!
+Belfry I'm glad you liked that! That particular thing in Happy Happy Village has always stuck with me through all these years.
Amazingly perfectly accurate to the original song's tone and intent.
I don't think I've ever seen a cover of this quality before. Astounding! I actually have chills right now. Why don't you have a million subs yet?
+Pabmyster Thank you for the very kind comment!
This is my favourite EarthBound cover on RUclips, you've got the synth sounds absolutely spot on. And the eggs and bananas were so random it was funny :D
Dude, your sound captures earthbound and brings it to a modern light. i love this and your Threed cover!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun doing both this and the Threed cover. They both have this spooky & eerie vibe that I strangely enjoy :). One of my favorite things about covering EarthBound is that there is such a huge variety of music in the game. To me, that says a lot about its composers!
Steven Morris For sure. Even simple level songs like "The Place" set the perfect vibe for situations in the game.
I think a lot of the game's memory was used for the music & sound. Ironically, the graphics have become iconic and have withstood the test of time better than just about any other game.
What an incredible cover. That ending gave me the shivers.
+DragonDePlatino I appreciate it! Sorry for the shivers though... :P
Disturbing voices ftw. I love this. Amazing job!~
Thanks! I'm glad you liked those voice recordings run through my guitar pedals :)
I hear this song now 2 times and I can tell you that I can hear her much more. Very very fine tune my friend..Lovely how the music find his way.....Thank so much my dear friend.
Lovely greetings from atti
+Atti Klancnik I thought you'd like this one Atti! You seem to like more psychedelic music :).
psychedelic music is always nice.
Like to play with sounds..do not have to be always music. Like playing with a modular...Makes lots of fun
Thanks Steven
+Atti Klancnik I agree with you-- not all sounds inside of a musical piece have to be 'music' in the traditional sense. That's something I've grown to appreciate more and more :). As always, I appreciate your comment!
dis made me have a moisture
Re: Rhodes-- you can hear how hard I was playing it at about 2:03!
Haha thanks!
perfectly done! 10.5/10
+Dejon Diaz I think you mean 10^300 000 000/10
oh yeah, i did mean that, thx 4 correcting me!
When I played this part of the game, I really wanted someone to do a cover of the song. Excellent job, mate.
+hilliuno Thanks for watching, and awesome! Your wish has been granted :D
Wow, that's an incredible texture! You've really got some stellar intuition for making captivating layered synth chords!
+Soundole VGM Covers Thanks! For this one, I actually opted to play the notes of the chords mostly separately, so I could modulate and detune each independently. I thought people were going to not like this because of how out of tune (of course the original is that way as well) it is!
You definitely nailed the uneasiness of this song... the way the organ oscillates almost out of tune is spot-on to the original (not sure what the term for that is)
This is seriously amazing.
+SUPERATOMIC I appreciate it!
Wow, I never ever would have imagined something so perfectly accurate, if not better! Amazing work!
+Belfry Thank you for the compliments and for watching!!
This cover blue blue me away with how amazing it is. Good job!
Haha I got a kick out of your comment! I'm happy you like the video :) Thank you!!
+Steven Morris You're welcome man!
uaagh this song gets in my head...alot of Earthbound songs do. buy u a beer on the peninsula
+saabturbografx Haha, I know what you mean! I constantly have EarthBound music playing in my head :D. I appreciate it, but I have to take a raincheck on your offer though-- I am going to be pretty busy for the next couple of months. Someday though!
These just keep getting better! Keep up the amazing work!! :D
+nat noah Thank you-- I'm happy to hear that :). I'm going to do my best to make more quality music♫
Brilliantly weird! Thank you!
*This video is brought to you by the color Blue!*
In all seriousness, AWESOME cover dude! Nice touch with the trippy voices at the end 😁
Steven Morris これからも頑張ってください
i love electronic music too
Definitely the best cover of this song on the web
Man, you have the coolest instruments! I want a koto so bad. Fantastic work, sir!
+PegsterMcDudeson Thanks! Ironically, I did not have access to my koto while I lived in Japan, so I've been separated for most of the time that I've owned it. It's such an interesting instrument. It can really capture a lot of different styles-- you can get some amazingly creepy sounds out of it ;)
sooo effing trippy. my dad threw away my earthbound box ten years ago. he remains forgiven...think i bought this new for $10 in 97..
+saabturbografx Yea man... my mom threw out our box! You got a great deal on it, even for back then! I remember getting ours used a little before '97 and it was definitely more (ironically, we got it at 'Games 4 Less').
Using a koto? Impressive. You captured the eerie, otherworldly feeling perfectly.
Yes it's a koto! Good eye :)
This is incredible
Awesome as always, thank you Steven!
+Cerbit Boris Thank YOU for watching♫
Damn Steven! You always amaze man, very nice :) love the earthbound love btw
+Victor Gomez Thanks :D. It's always great to hear from a fellow EarthBound fan! There will always be more EarthBound covers in the works ♫
Wow, this is hauntingly accurate :o
+Betsy7Cat Thanks Betsy! I did my best to transcribe the song (including all the weird pitchy stuff) before making my arrangement... perhaps I got too close this time! I thought the weird guitar pedal 'solo' at the end would help change it up though :). Thanks, as always, for watching!!
The crazyest and scary cover that i've seen! Awesome job!
+andersongs87 Thank you! I'm happy to hear that it freaked you out ;) I wish I'd had done this in time for Halloween!!
Love it! Such beautiful sound make that koto!!
You are amazing at what you do. Props.
+Rafael Betance Thank you!
everybody gangsta till the snes goes "ค๓๒เﻮย๏ยร ๓ץรՇєгเ๏ยร คɭเєภ ๓ยรเς".
すごい!再現度が高すぎる。
+nigato ありがとうございます!原曲の変なシンセの耳コピは大変でしたw
This sounds amazingly accurate!
That intro reminded me a bit of Within You Without You.
+HΞX MΛИIΛC † CHЯISTIΛN That was totally the idea ;). It's the same kind of instrument, although I'm sure the one George Harrison & Co. used was a bigger one! If you're interested, it's called a tambura.
Oh thanks! Now I can find that specific sound rather than looking for,"sitar music" heheh #^^#
Thanks for the cover by the way. I've always liked this track and wondered why no one did anything with it. Until now of course. ;D
Listening to this version I noticed the two musics are pretty similar. Heck even the "main melody" is the same !
Really neat cover. Captured the disorienting feel of the town. How do you afford all these instruments?
+W. deflect Thanks!
***** Yes, it's one of the things I do-- music & sound :)
***** I really appreciate that you've taken the time to check it out :D. I have something new coming (probably) tomorrow.
Jesus, 0:36 is simply AMAZING and i think it's the best thing i've heard in this year, at least
+Prometheus Thanks!! I was really happy with how that came out. I was really hitting the Rhodes' keyboard hard to get that kind of tone!
+Steven Morris Absolutely! Looking forward to more amazing Earthbound covers!
This is amazing Steven! Some of your best work!
+DonutDrums Aww thank you :D. I'm very happy to hear that from you!
Such a haunting atmosphere O.o
+Nelson Coy (guitarded222) Mission accomplished! Thank you :)
this is perfect
+reek Thank you :D
Crazy good!!
+Daniel Rodrigues Thank you!
Amazing work ! It sounds so great =)
+SlashBib Thanks!! I'm glad to hear you like the sound :)
wow ! more otherworldy and psychedelic video game stuff please
Thanks for the cool comment! I'll do my best to get some more of this kind of stuff out there as I enjoy it very much :). If you haven't yet, check out my cover of Threed, also from EarthBound. It has a little bit more of a spooky vibe, but they have similarities.
Another awesome cover Steven, great work! You really captured the eerie tone of the song.
+legalink1 Thank you! I'm happy to hear that :D
I know you already did Snowman, do you think you can do Winters next? That's another favorite of mine from the game. And it's a good song for the snowy holiday season.
legalink1 I've done Winters as well :D. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/t0DreKsLuLA/видео.html
Steven Morris I don't know how I missed that.. my bad! heheh.. sorry!
legalink1 No problem at all!!! I'm happy that you asked and hope you enjoy it :)
now this is a good video to listen to while having a mental shutdown heck yeah
This is incredible.
+Starman Nabi Music Thank you! By the way, I really like your Threed Remix :)
+Steven Morris wow!! I didn't expect a reply or even a glance from you. You are a musician I aspire to be like eventually :s
Starman Nabi Music Your arrangements are great! You're already there :) Just gotta keep on doing it, and you're it :)
I dont think I've ever heard this song covered before
+KrakenJack There are actually a couple of interesting covers with lyrics on RUclips! It's not a very commonly covered song though :) Thanks for watching!!
That was a hard trip
+cosmogang :D
Now THIS is an awesome cover!
Nailed it. :)
Yes! The sitar and koto combo is amazing, you gotta do more covers where you can highlight these instruments!
I could recommend you several Mario desert tracks that would work beautifully with tanpura.
i adore it... i love indie music
+Matty DiCaffrio This isn't really music from an independent developer though. It's just a unique sound to a major publisher.
This is stunning 🤩
Amazing work!! One of your best for sure!!! :D
+gabocarina96 Thank you! And I thought guitarists would scoff at my (mis)use of that pedalboard :P
If you want to hear some of the music I've created partially through it check out the first two tracks on my soundcloud: soundcloud.com/chaosnick/tracks
I played a DS Prophet 6 today.
+Steven Morris thank you. For fewer strings but more interesting harmonics check out Guqin.
nice job dude, make more please! it's too addict!
+ENGINEER THECOWBOY Thank you for checking this out! There is always more in the works :D. EarthBound has such an amazing soundtrack with so many songs... I always have an EB cover high on my list :)
Steven Morris do a cover of deep darkness that sound like a godzilla fight! :D
ENGINEER THECOWBOY That's an awesome idea-- great imagination!! I think I know what you mean when you say that. It's been on my list-- I'll definitely have to go for it one of these days :)
Steven Morris you are awesome man! :D wow! thank you
Holy shit... Well, I LIKE!
+Elina Jonsgården I'm glad you liked it!
This is my favorite track from earthbound. Mostly from how eerie it sounds
This cover fucking su--hey, STOP THAT, WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME? *HELLLLLLPPPP*
Very good... Brazil aproves
Thank you! I'm happy to hear that :)
are you part hammer???
BECAUSE YOU NAILED IT
FWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*choke* *wheeze*
Haha that's a good one!
Are you Porky?
Matthew the Hylian no im picky
Any chance of an album release on Bandcamp? This is good stuff!
+Papyrus Thanks! I just created a Bandcamp and am considering making something VGM-related available :). I'll be sure to let you know when it's ready!
ayyyyy 2015 Techo-- represent
+Gianluca Bertoia :D!!! Not many people notice that thing ;)
Great! very well done, just like the game.
THOSE HOT DOGS ARE FROZEN SOLID (yes i know they're wood but i refused to acknowledge this fact)
Haha~ I'm not going to be able to un-see that! My claves have become hotdogs in my mind's eye now -_-
your'e welcome
Wow blue just seems very appealing to me now all of a sudden.
I love this one. Did you have a Banana Omelette afterwards?
+Euchale Ichselber Thank you!! I actually had a creepy banana crepe afterwards :P
Awesome
+Annoying Sabaris Thanks :D
Steven Morris
Do you know japanese?
Annoying Sabaris Yes :)
My. Fucking. Lord. You can play tons of instruments and know japanese. Dude you're awesome! Keep up the good content Steven Morris
Annoying Sabaris Thank you for the compliments!!! I'll do my best to keep on going :D Your positive support will certainly make it easier!
im happy happy
blue blue~
this is so fucking cool
+danny * Thanks!!
Dude this is amazing! the best part was the eggs and bananas.
Ok
This song reminds me a little bit Magicant (Mother/EBB version)
+pierre11167 Thanks for watching :D. I've never made that connection before, but now that you mention it, I think there are some interesting similarities. Very good ear!
whats the blue transparent chorus pedal @2:20? It's the only transparent pedal i've ever seen 🤔
That’s a Ken Multi pedal from Japan
So, do you play every instrument out there? Amazing!
+subversiveasset Not even close (as much as I try!) :P Besides, none of my instruments are as technical as something like the sax! Thanks for watching!
can you do the machine opponent theme
It's definitely something I've had in mind for a while and is something that can bridge my VGM stuff with my synthesizer stuff :). Hopefully I'll try to go for it sooner rather than later!
Imagine listening to this while being high 😳

+saabturbografx The Pilotwings 64 results screen is a deep cut! That's my kinda music too :) Great choice! Just gotta work out that Rhodes solo! It'll be a while, but I definitely want to go for that one. BTW this is almost embarrassing, but I have yet to play Persona!
