Totally with you on Paris. It needs to be enjoyed as a stand alone trip. X

Some people may be taking their only lifetime European trip and that is the only excuse that makes sense to me.

We did the Normandy tour. Best tour we've ever taken.

Sonny and I drove thru Normandy long ago, visited the D-Day beaches and Pointe du 'Hoc, the Ranger Memorial. With this week being the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, this video is timely. So sad to stand on top of beaches and think what troops faces. 😪

I need to look up what it was like before WWII. Sad, so sad. Thank you for the video

Very sad, particularly, as I remarked above. The world just celebrated the D-Day landings.

80 yrs yesterday for Normandy landings, I got to shake the hand of a veteran, was so honoured he was 105, returning from meeting the king and queen in Plymouth returning to Darlington, I actually was so moved

OMG! That is so spine-chilling! I would have been crying my eyes out. Just like I did when Sonny and I visited years ago. And coincidentally, I am off Tuesday on a cruise leaving from Dover!

It looks like we were on the same cruise. I'm surprised we didn't meet since my wife seemed to talk to everyone onboard. Your followers should know that the day in Paris was included in the fare. The wife and I stuck with the freebies and had no complaints. Even though we've been to Paris at least 20 times in the past (both of us worked for the airlines and she later led student tours as a high school teacher), we were more than happy with the excursion. Yes, that ride to Paris is a long one but having woken up before dawn to leave that morning most of us old farts on the bus napped at least part of the way. There were rest stops coming and going. These proved to be valuable as they sold Parisian and Norman souvenirs much cheaper than those in the city. European roadside rest stops are far different than American highway gas stations. We had plenty of time in Paris. After a nice bus tour of Paris we were dropped off near the Louvre and only a block from the Metro. Plenty of time to see the progress on Notre Dame, window shop at a few tacky souvenir shops, check out the magazine stalls, stroll along the Seine, walk by the Sorbonne and have lunch on the Left Bank. An easy excursion for senior citizens with ample opportunity to rest. Yes, we love everything about Viking!

Hi Doug! Thanks so much for your take on the Paris excursion! Sorry we missed each other on the cruise 😍 Keep in mind though, you’ve been to Paris at least 20x which makes deciding what to see and do and Paris a no-brainer for you. So appreciate your time to view and comment and here’s to many other happy cruises on Viking.
