    Actors get old, and directors do as well, and also Spielberg doesn’t really seem to have a passion for genre films anymore. From that entire generation, only Scorsese still seems to be constantly at his A game, and still loves doing the type of films he’s always done.

      Steven really picks his moments and takes the open shot. And by open shot, I mean the ones he goes out of his way to manufacture by sheer force of will and manifest destiny just so as to then be able to forcibly dunk hard on those who oppose him; take them all to behind the Jedi academy woodshed and go full dark side on their asses.
      Shooters gotta shoot.
      Spielberg on Kathleen Kennedy way back in the day saying she was the world's worst assistant, hired to keep minutes and notes and did neither, fetch coffee, not only wouldn't do that, but then go out of her way to ask whoever was the nearest person around if they could grab her a cup. And as a misguided cherry on top of this nightmare fuel sundae, she not only wouldn't record the idea sessions, but self insert herself into the brain storming proceedings

    The movie would have redeemed itself more or less if it hadn't wrapped itself up in such a hurry -- everything up to and including the ant scene looked strong in relation to the rushed flatline of a final act.

    "Come to think of it, I don't believe we ever see a human being get physically shot in this entire movie." --- Harry S. Plinkett
    If that's not a damning critique of a film, I don't know what is.

    • @HyraxusPrimus
      @HyraxusPrimus Год назад +3

      Except we do, multiple times. Even if the Hangar 51 guards and the Akator natives are technically mowed down offscreen, we still see a whole lot of corpses that were clearly shot, and the one Russian soldier is shot (onscreen) by Indy to escape the hangar. Also, getting eaten by ants or incinerated by a rocket is arguably more graphic than getting shot.

    • @CMontgomeryBurns09
      @CMontgomeryBurns09 Год назад +1

      @Andy Howard Those army guards are shot off-screen, the one Indy actually hits that we see is in the toe as a gag, and those instances of incineration and bug attacks are cartoony, without gore, or squibs. Even the bodies we see later have no blood on them. Again, there's the illusion of violence but it's missing the grit.

    • @HyraxusPrimus
      @HyraxusPrimus Год назад

      @@CMontgomeryBurns09 So what if it was a gag? Indy shooting through the 4 Nazis on the tank with one shot in Last Crusade was played for laughs (as was his "don't call me Junior" rampage in the castle; it was mostly bloodless), as was his shooting the driver of Lao Che's car in Temple of Doom (complete with the Wilhelm scream; he had no gun for the rest of the movie). The only serious shootouts he was in where he always had access to a gun was in Raiders, and even then the only real grisly one was the one goon in the bar who was already on fire. The Gestapo agent was shot offscreen (you only see his shadow go down), the truck driver he shot to save Marion and accidentally blow her up wasn't all that graphic, and the swordsman was 100% played for laughs.
      I get what you're saying, like the Russians who fell to their deaths because of Marion whipping the tree back at them didn't get the Mola Ram treatment where the camera follows them down, but is it really necessary?

    Spielberg totally whiffed and phoned in the direction for this movie. There's no attempt at style or quality. Also way too much CG. I think Lucas didn't really care either. He might have done a thumbnail of the actual script.

It’s wacky for sure but at least Indy was doing stuff and at least Mutt wasn’t constantly trying to act like he’s better than Indy. Plus I heard somewhere that Indy surviving the nuke in the fridge is actually a Spielberg in joke of an old draft of Back to the Future Part 3

    Ive seen pretty dang good fan edits of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. They properly color grade, removed lots of cheesy moments, and tigened up the pacing of the film. While it still suffers from bad writing like Mac being a triple agent, and no tension in the final act due to lackluster writing, I think those versions offer a much better viewing experience.

    Marion should have died and Indy's friend live. That would have been a more interesting ending. Because now he is sort of forced to choose raising a kid to be like him or not like him. Or not try at all. If you want to make character growth and development, that's how you do it. Skips the stupid wedding scene too.

    I enjoyed The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker. But I also think that The Last Jedi was terrible. Part of why I enjoy The Force Awakens and Rise is because I enjoyed Daisy Ridley’s performance as Rey. And in my opinion, having her as the main protagonist is the perfect counter argument to what I heard as a girl growing up/in elementary school who loves Star Wars… Which was,~*STAR WARS IS FOR BOYS AND MEN ONLY.*~ But obviously today… People would describe that as a gendered stereotype.
