In the 50's my Dad worked a modest job, Mom stayed at home and raised the kids, and they lived a nice middle class lifestyle including owning a home. Nowadays both I and my partner works and can barely afford to make ends meet. Soon the kids and family dog will need to work to keep this household going. It's the destruction of the American dream right before our eyes.

Mr. Rowe, I spent 7 of the last 10 years as a grocery supplier selling wine & spirits out in Tiburon. In fact, if that dinner party you mentioned had happened two years prior, there’d be a roughly 50/50 chance the wine you drank that evening would have been sold to the grocer by yours truly. I’m a little sad I never bumped into you out there, because I would have loved to say this to you personally. Your words about hard work and taking pride in that work, have not only echoed the way I was raised, but served as a reminder sometimes that there is value in living a life that many of my peers viewed as anachronistic. In the two years since I left the California Bay Area, I’ve struggled a bit to figure it all out, but I am now teaching 41 students in a high school auto shop program that I pitched, planned, and helped implement, largely as a volunteer, over that same period of time. Though, I wish teachers got paid a little more. I guess they do in some places, but not where I’ve landed. If I did this full time I would be making roughly 1/3 of what I made as a wine salesman, so I’ve elected to only teach the class part time, and run an independent shop with the rest of my time to even things out. BUT, I’m looking forward to being able to travel during Summer Break, so, there’s that. 😊
I am an 80-year-old male that was a police officer from 1970 to 1990. The one thing that is totally forgotten about is the quality of police officers today. Not all, but many are trained in the art of knowing the right pronoun to use, making sure that the Miranda warnings are very formally read from a card. Don't really try very hard to get the suspect to tell them anything and the investigations that are performed by many police - again not all but a lot because of the cultural left is pathetic. One thing that isn't even tracked anymore is on things like clearance rates of good officers, promotions many times are more based on Race and gender not on just being a good police officer!
The problem is that many US police departments are for some reasons trained by Israelis, as if Americans are not able to train their own police. Israelis deal with Palestinians and treat them not as humans but human animals. This kind of training is being permeated in the US police force, they are starting to look like storm troopers. ready to face a major rebellion and who escalate a minor traffic stop as if they had discovered an underground terrorist cell. Accepting reality can be a painful process. I'm a veteran (USAF 2001-2021), and I began to reevaluate everything I thought I knew in 2020. The mandate was the straw that broke the camels back for me. The criminally bad withdrawal confirmed more of my fears. These conversations aren't fun, but they are absolutely necessary. Hate will not save us, love for one another is the answer. Yep! Im a 57 year old carpenter who builds homes for rich people. They are the worst to build for. I miss building small spec homes for first time home buyers. They were always happy and appreciative for our hard work.
I have been making furniture for rich people for 42 years. I would rather work for old money people any day than new money people. Or, the very wealthy than the kind of wealthy. There are two things that I'm concerned about, one is the Media and the other is Putin. There is the threat within and there is the threat without. I do not like Democrats, such as Robert Reich, calling Trump a Fascist and the resulting two assassination attempts, but I also do not like that Putin is attempting to rebuild the Soviet Union one piece at a time with his war on Ukraine. Trump is a Ukraine aid skeptic, so that is a concern there, but the Democrats want to use undemocratic means to retain power and they use government agencies to attack people who support Trump such as the FAA against Elon Musk. The greater threat is the threat within, as there are other countries out there that can help Ukraine, but I don't like Trump's apparent isolationist position either, but it is not of sufficient concern to me to cause me to vote for Kamala Harris, that is the problem. The Republicans are soft on the Russians, but that's not as important as democratic institutions surviving, I do hope Ukraine beats Russia, I do not like straddling the issues like this, but I can't abide by this media monopoly controlling our politics either!

I took U.S. Army helicopter flight training at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. It was named after a Confederate soldier. The name was changed at taxpayers expense. It’s Ft. Rucker to me and always will be regardless of the woke agenda.

Well, 90% of the media is owned by only 7 large media corporations. So there's your elites. And 70% are aligned with one of the parties (also owned by billionaires and corporations). Here is a really good example of the divide you talk about here. In Australia last year we had a national referendum on The Voice. Look it up, the referendum had to happen to change parts of the Australian constitution. The campains from both sides increasingly became one of the elite against the common people. With some elites even saying that unless you were intellectual types you just couldn't understand the issues! The result was %60 no. The only areas that voted yes were the inner city districts, the elite. They went into shock , largely because they were utterly convinced they were right and had it in the bag.
Praying that happens in America in November too, but our media is so broken that many naive voters are still in the dark as to what’s going on. We’ll see.
I recently left the field of education for similar reasons. I often noted to myself how Soviet it felt having to do a dance of words to appease and virtue signal. Failure to signal correctly in a place as woke as I was in, meant a literal opposition from others about tasks that had nothing to do with politics. All in all, it's a pure power play. Control the narrative and language and then, getting others to do what you require, can be as easy as not even having to ask for it. We are indeed at an ominous time.

I had my own operating authority years ago and booked loads of orange juice out of Florida up to Washington and Oregon and apples, pears and onions back to Florida. There is no way, no how I could run my rig on battery electric. Stop and charge the truck, stop and charge the reefer, run the A/C at night at the rest stop or truck stop during my down time? Plus, the extreme weight of the batteries required reduces the weight available for the freight and tare.

The ele. trucks weight alone is one of the biggest problems, we would have to replace every single road and bridge in our country, and would be a lot of trucks with generators idling on the side of the road trying to recharge that junk
We could switch to rail, but the rail system is so under developed it would take massive reconstruction of the rail lines and electrical power diesel-electric (trains that generate their own electricity) is only on the east coast from Washington to Boston now
The cost of electricity will also go up for everyone as the demand for power increases. Some day soon our electric bill will be much higher.

Mr. Rowe, I spent 7 of the last 10 years as a grocery supplier selling wine & spirits out in Tiburon. In fact, if that dinner party you mentioned had happened two years prior, there’d be a roughly 50/50 chance the wine you drank that evening would have been sold to the grocer by yours truly. I’m a little sad I never bumped into you out there, because I would have loved to say this to you personally. Your words about hard work and taking pride in that work, have not only echoed the way I was raised, but served as a reminder sometimes that there is value in living a life that many of my peers viewed as anachronistic. In the two years since I left the California Bay Area, I’ve struggled a bit to figure it all out, but I am now teaching 41 students in a high school auto shop program that I pitched, planned, and helped implement, largely as a volunteer, over that same period of time. And I can’t help but think I owe some of the inspiration for this idea to you as well. Keep fighting the good fight, sir, and I will keep listening to the podcast. And thank you for all that you do.

I am an 80-year-old male that was a police officer from 1970 to 1990. The one thing that is totally forgotten about is the quality of police officers today. Not all, but many are trained in the art of knowing the right pronoun to use, making sure that the Miranda warnings are very formally read from a card. Don't really try very hard to get the suspect to tell them anything and the investigations that are performed by many police - again not all but a lot because of the cultural left is pathetic. One thing that isn't even tracked anymore is on things like clearance rates of good officers, promotions many times are more based on Race and gender not on just being a good police officer!
The problem is that many US police departments are for some reasons trained by Israelis, as if Americans are not able to train their own police. Israelis deal with Palestinians and treat them not as humans but human animals. This kind of training is being permeated in the US police force, they are starting to look like storm troopers. ready to face a major rebellion and who escalate a minor traffic stop as if they had discovered an underground terrorist cell. Very pathetic. No wonder they are loosing respect. As an old Jewish business friend told me, you treat people like animals, you will have animals to deal with.

Do you know what a PA is? In my day, a dematologist doctor was in the top 10% of the class just to get into the residency and an orthopediic surgeon was a top notch surgery resident! How far we've fallen.

Accepting reality can be a painful process. I'm a veteran (USAF 2001-2021), and I began to reevaluate everything I thought I knew in 2020. The mandate was the straw that broke the camels back for me. The criminally bad withdrawal confirmed more of my fears. These conversations aren't fun, but they are absolutely necessary. Hate will not save us, love for one another is the answer. There are two things that I'm concerned about, one is the Media and the other is Putin. There is the threat within and there is the threat without. I do not like Democrats, such as Robert Reich, calling Trump a Fascist and the resulting two assassination attempts, but I also do not like that Putin is attempting to rebuild the Soviet Union one piece at a time with his war on Ukraine. Trump is a Ukraine aid skeptic, so that is a concern there, but the Democrats want to use undemocratic means to retain power and they use government agencies to attack people who support Trump such as the FAA against Elon Musk. The greater threat is the threat within, as there are other countries out there that can help Ukraine, but I don't like Trump's apparent isolationist position either, but it is not of sufficient concern to me to cause me to vote for Kamala Harris, that is the problem. The Republicans are soft on the Russians, but that's not as important as democratic institutions surviving, I do hope Ukraine beats Russia, I do not like straddling the issues like this, but I can't abide by this media monopoly controlling our politics either!

I took U.S. Army helicopter flight training at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. It was named after a Confederate soldier. The name was changed at taxpayers expense. It’s Ft. Rucker to me and always will be regardless of the woke agenda.

Rhe Civil War ended 159 years ago. The bases in the South that were named after Confederates were named as part of a demonstration of reconciliation. Now they change the names because anything confederate is bad. Statues are pulled down. Monuments desecrated and not just Confederate Monuments. Government and media still dividing us by race. History is being wiped and it is hard to find anything that is true anymore. They took prayer out of schools and now if a coach prays before a game they get fired and if a kid prays they get suspended. Might as well take "In God we Trust" off the dollar while you're at it. Soon America will go the way of Rome and we will be forgotten.

I often wonder about the mental state of the brave men who signed the Declaration of Independence. What was it that actually made them cross that line? They were mostly wealthy and lived great lives but they signed it anyway.

I woke up because I actually listened to Donald Trump speak in Charlottesville (People forget - that was about statues and monuments being removed; and those with a respect for history opposed it, and were called racist among other things - but I don't remember antisemitism or tiki torches!) in any event, I then listened with astonishment and growing disbelief to the media coverage after the event . . . and have been learning more than I ever really wanted to know about how corrupt our system has become! Kudos to you both for your discussion about the defects in the current administration, and system.

So maybe going back to FCC Rule 530 would be a start. And let's adopt Final Five primaries and Ranked Choice elections state-by-state , a little competition and freedom of choice in politics couldn't hurt.
The Right needs to not be afraid to wield political power. Stop caring when they call you "racist, sexist, fascist, etc." They're going to call you that no matter what. So, we need to stop caring and just do what's right.

Here is a really good example of the divide you talk about here.
In Australia last year we had a national referendum on The Voice. Look it up, the referendum had to happen to change parts of the Australian constitution.
The campains from both sides increasingly became one of the elite against the common people. With some elites even saying that unless you were intellectual types you just couldn't understand the issues!
The result was %60 no. The only areas that voted yes were the inner city districts, the elite. They went into shock , largely because they were utterly convinced they were right and had it in the bag.
Inner city lefties are probably the least essential people in society.

I recently left the field of education for similar reasons. I often noted to myself how Soviet it felt having to do a dance of words to appease and virtue signal. Failure to signal correctly in a place as woke as I was in, meant a literal opposition from others about tasks that had nothing to do with politics. All in all, it's a pure power play. Control the narrative and language and then, getting others to do what you require, can be as easy as not even having to ask for it.

1st Class doesn't want anyone and will not accept anyone from the lower classes to move up.
Communism is just another word for feudalism. You have the elite rulers and the serfs. If you can provide the illusion of self governance, the thought of revolt will never cross people minds.
They know it's a small group at the top, making each piece of the pie bigger than the overpopulated tier 2 and 3.
When they start allowing more people in, their piece of the pie gets proportionally smaller very quick although they'll never truly be struggling in a tier 3 person's eyes.

We ALL know that. The Pareto distribution is ALWAYS a thing. We used to call it the 80/20 rule. Not sure why so many people think they can change that just by will power. That distribution happens in ALL kinds of sectors. It really is nature's preferred way to distribute resources. We know it in our bones.

I had my own operating authority years ago and booked loads of orange juice out of Florida up to Washington and Oregon and apples, pears and onions back to Florida. There is no way, no how I could run my rig on battery electric. Stop and charge the truck, stop and charge the reefer, run the A/C at night at the rest stop or truck stop during my down time? Plus, the extreme weight of the batteries required reduces the weight available for the freight and tare.

I too am concerned about the sheer number of illegal migrants that have been allowed to invade our country. I was listening to a program the other day (I don’t remember who said this). The lady said that so many people were allowed to enter our country “to replace us.” It made me sit up and take notice.
