- In Exodus 34, God's covenant with Israel is reestablished. Moses returned to the top of Mount Sinai, again received the Ten Commandments, and God's choice, presence, greatness, and power are confirmed.
This teaching is from our series Exodus - 2011 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.
The shining face of Moses when he came down off the Mount after talking with God reminded me of some verses in John’s gospel. In John 1:4 it says about Jesus, “In Him was life and the life was the light of men.” And then in John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” So I believe in talking with God - who is the Source of all life -Moses absorbed so much life from God that it radiated from him as pure light! What a wondrous magnificent thought - that one day we will be in the presence of Jesus and be filled with the light of life and do what He created us for - worship Him in the beauty of holiness and enjoy Him forever!

Pastor Skip, if you put together a study bible filled with your lessons and commentary and resources, I'd buy five. Well, not really, but I'd definitely buy one. I can't tell you how many times I've been speaking with someone and wished I could remember exactly what it was you said about a specific verse. Have you ever thought about it?
As a physician myself, I understand what Skip is saying regarding the sins of parents being visited to the 3rd and 4th generation. However, I disagree in part with his explanation. I totally agree that we are indeed completely responsible individually for our sin. Bar none. However, there is strong evidence, even today, of children repeating their parents sins. I believe this is due to environment, but I also agree that this is due to the children's genetic makeup.
A study was done at the University of Wisconsin involving twins separated at birth that spanned over 40 years. I learned about this study through Focus on the Family and have since researched it. The results clearly showed that our life choices, and subsequent problems and sins we commit, were based on the genetic makeup of the separated twins to a tune of 70%. Meaning that we are well over half who we are based on nature (genetics) compared to nurture (our environment). This is also why the lineage, or genetics, of the lineage of Jesus was so important to save throughout history until He was born.
The same idea applies to each generation of any family. By the 3rd or 4th generation the genetics of any original parents have been greatly diluted. And, so likely has the environment that was part of the original parents. However, in spite of these facts, we cannot blame our own actions and recurring sins on anybody that came before us. For, if we are a believer, we "can do all things through Christ our Lord" Phil. 4:13. Including overcoming any sin that came before us.
