President and co-founder of the Romanian Genealogy Society, Vicki Albu, will discuss the basics of Romanian genealogy research. Topics covered will include how to conduct an exhaustive search before making the “jump” across the ocean, the importance of knowing the history of Romania’s political boundaries, the differences between ethnicity and nationality, tips on finding variant names and spellings in passenger lists and other documents, how to find clues to the immigrant’s place of origin, and the basics of research in Romanian records.
