    Of course, I made a few mistakes in the video. 😅
    1. There's a small metal plate, nice and circular with a Hidizs logo on it, that can be taped to the back of your phone. I just found it in the box.
    2. DH80s uses Sabre ESS9281C PRO chip, while S9 Pro uses ESS9038Q2M (this mistake was brought to my attention by @
    Nacho Vecina Sánchez - thanks!)

    Update: Got the DH80s, it's phenomenal!
    The sound is a class better than S9pro. Basically the bass is deeper and tigher and it does not have the slightly bloat of the s9pro. Midrange is cleaner and more vibrant.
    Changed my s9pro for this and absolutely happy.

    Bravo. Great review. I think this is one video many head-fi reviewers should watch, especially when they wrote about headphones/ IEMs. Good clean power should bring up the sound a few notches up. Again, there’s one caveat: that’s synergy (source-amp-cable-earphones). Now, let’s hope Hidizs can make it half its current size (or smaller) without sacrificing any amplification section. Brilliant review 👍

    This PROVES that the DAC Chip alone doesn't say much, but it's implementation matters a lot. Good example since its both are from "Hidizs", same DAC chip "Sabre ESS9038Q2M", but entirely different outcomes that are resulted from the difference in implementation. Great review!

    I ended up getting the DH80s and will be selling off my desktop stacks. It's just much more convenient to have something that I can use with a PC and a phone interchangeably, that sounds as good (or better) than a $300+ dollar stack. I'm really impressed by how well it drives headphones (balanced) and how deep and defined everything is without adding harshness or glare. Clean, smooth, deep, and bodied is how I'd describe it. I don't love the included OTG cable for USB C-to-C so I ordered replacements from ddHiFi. But I can't think of anything else I'd nitpick. It's a cleaner, more robust sound than a Heresy, a Zen Can, a Liquid Spark, and a JDS Atom+ amp in my usage. Thanks again for this find, I really love this thing!

    • @dasninjastix
      @dasninjastix 2 года назад +1

      @@MatthewCollada Haven't had an issue with it but also haven't pushed it to the limit. I know this will sound silly but I use the DH80s more so as a desktop solution than a portable solution. So if the battery died tomorrow it probably wouldn't impact me. Definitely consider that before applying your use case.

      @@DGardn100 yes and no (I hate saying this but it's true). If I'm using it at my workstation it just stays plugged in and I unplug it when I'm done. So I don't leave it charging all the time, but rather than use it unplugged I typically will run it 6-7 hours while working and it's just easy to keep it charging. If there's a sonic difference between charging and not charging I can't hear it. I use it as a desktop solution because my phone hates USB over data. I'll have to wait till I have a whole new phone before I could try its portability.

    yes indeed, battery life seems to be “endless”, especially compared to my ifi hip-dac !! one quirk on mine though - only charges in one position - flip the usb-c over, and it does not charge. Tries several cables all the same., so it must be the device itself. Sound clearly hits way above its price. I find it more detailed and more neutral compared to my Dragonfly Red or even the hip-dac. Excellent value indeed !!

    I just got this after btr5 and ifi zen dac v2 and I am so glad that I did. Dacs these days are after details which is holding me back from enjoying music. I love this amp-dac. It sounds so smooth and soulful. I paired it with truthear hola and sennheiser hd 660s2. With 660 it has a thicker, cozier sound than with hola. But both of them sound smooth, enough detailed, thick and soulful. I would agree on your ‘everything put so orderly’ take but not on the ‘crisp’ particularly. Very nicely balanced between detail oriented and smooth, soulful. This is exactly what I was looking for. I still had to eq for the best result.

It was across the entire back of the phone. I don't know if other cases cover the entire back but that might make the solution better or worse. I use blue tack to stick it on the phone--works really well. I was using Topping NX4 dac/amp, though looks slimmer than this Hidizs, the stack is still uncomfortable inside jeans pocket.

    Got this based on the review, but the volume control doesn't work "independently" as advertised. Buttons only worked when hooked up to a computer (Win10). Same issue before & after FW update. Worst part: it's stuck at ear-bleeding, line out type levels when used with hardware such as Shanling M0, Xuduoo X10-Tii, and, most likely, many other portable devices --- can catch you off guard !! No idea why volume buttons only work with 'certain' devices, and not others. Unless this is fixed with a new FW update, I cannot recommend it. It's advertised as universal, with independent volume control, but is not in practice.

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  3 года назад +4

      Wow, sorry to hear about that. I've used it with Windows and two Android phones with Hiby player... It worked well in both of these cases. If it has problems with any device as a source, than you're right, it's not fully independent hardware control.
      It's difficult to cover every possible use case with limited time. So comments like these are very valuable.

    Kind Sir, I recently tried the Hidiz DH80s in my friends house. I just watch RUclips videos. The same video when played on Samsung tablet sounds amazing and DH80s glows blue ( sampling rate 384k) , but the very same video sounds dull on iPad Pro and light on DH80s is blue ( 48k) . Is there any way to fix this. Sounds like synergy is important when we buy dacs. Same goes for apple dongle. It sounds really organic on my iPad but very bad on the Samsung Android OS. Any inputs ?

    According to specs in hifigo, s9 pro doesn't use the same Dac chip as dh80s. Also I'd like to ask if it is possible to use this as a Dac only and connect it to a headphone amplifier for example. That way I could have the sound quality and also a bit more power to use more demanding headphones.

    Update: I wrote a positive review on the Hidizs DH80s. Very little has changed in my liking the Dh80s. I thought it was time to discuss the negatives. There were three things I wasn't happy with. In reverse order: There's no indication of when the battery is low, and needing recharging. Second: The volume control is a two button. A lot of the time I can't get the volume right. A dial would have been better. Now the the number one complaint. The music file lights to show 16-bit, hi-res (24-bit) and MQA. I tried UAPP app and Hiby Music app. Sometimes I would get a blue light for hi-res, but never MQA. When I connected the Dh80s to my iMac and listen to Trial the correct light came on for MQA. Will I get rid of my Dh80s? Heck no! I absolutely love the beautiful music it makes. I only have MQA album ( David Bowie's Young Americans). So I going to get my Dh80s. Sorry for the review, but thought the lights issue important to discuss.

    Using these with the gain set to mid, and occasionally use the balanced output, I get about 5-6 hours? Yet to try with low gain and just standard SE output.
    What was your configuration?

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 года назад +1

      I didn't measure exactly, but was in the range of ~7 hours with mixed in-ear usage (7hz Timeless, SeeAudio Bravery, Moondrop Kato) and mostly low gain cause I didn't need it to be louder than that.
      The more power hungry headphones are, and volume level also, the shorter usage time will be.

    • @mascisken
      @mascisken 2 года назад

      @@iiWiReviews agreed. Only got about 4ish hours when I use the balanced output more. Bought these after viewing your review the other week. Thanks.
      Overall, a good buy. The BTR5 is a little bit more sparkly with the upper highs and have better soundstage depth. Bass on the other hand goes to the Dh80s.
