Pronman was extremely wrong about Seider at the draft (as we all were), but has REFUSED to admit it. Since then, he consistently undervalues Seider.. or just generally throws shade on him.
Feels like The Athletic has been a bit of a joke the last several years. Rankings, rumors, explanations, seems like they smoke a bowl then start their article. Haven't taken anything of theirs seriously for a few years.
Zegras is 2nd in points in the draft class, along with having the 2nd highest points per game. I just don't see how having him 3rd over Caufield is so crazy. Imo they play pretty similarly defensively. The only two players who should be above Zegras are Hughes and debatably Seider.
There's an argument for Seider/Boldy being better than Zegras as they have more well rounded games. There isn't really a great argument for Caufield over Zegras.
@@MakeTaxationTheftAgain definitely, but you also have to consider Zegras was playing under a Dallas Eakins system, aka the worst coach in the NHL. Everyone’s defensive numbers were adversely affected last year, not just Trevor’s. Through 3 games Zegras has been brilliant defensively under Greg Cronin, obviously a small sample and he’ll have to keep it up but playing on one of the worst defensive teams of the modern era last year with blue liners who couldn’t move the puck up ice did him no favors whatsoever

I think there will be at least a few players in tier 5 or lower that will surpass their ranking by a lot. Some players take a while to develop and break out into star players later into their careers. For example, Thompson didn't turn into a superstar player until last year which was 7 years after he was drafted.
How many times are you watching the Juniors, and see kids SO complete that you think, not If they will make the show, but if they will wear a C someday.... @ the time I was thinking I would take either Cozens or Boldy if the Pick was mine to make.....for not being considered a deep draft, 5 cornerstone franchise type players seems good. Would love to see a piece on how many team Captains every draft class has produced
Hughes, Cozens/Seider, Boldy, Zegras, Caufield, Kakko and Byram is my top 8 in that order. Find it hard to compare Seider and Cozens as they play different roles
Total disrespect of Harvey-Pinard at 37th. 15 goals 8 passes in 41 games so far in the NHL, extremely hard worker and 8th in P/Game in the draft class. Kochetkov at 53 and Robertson at 54 ? Alex Vlasic at 66th ? Who ever made the article is on something good.
The top 4 of this draft is obvious, the rest is a toss up- 1-Hughes 2-Sieder 3-Cozens 4-Zegras FYI: The GM that takes Caufield over Sieder will have a very short career😂
I feel like a lot of these players they are punishing for not being amazing nhl producers when they still have a great amount of nhl potential. Brink, Pelletier, and Wolf are big examples of this.
Zegras is better offensively and defensively than Caufield whether or not you’d like to admit it. Quit hating on a player who produced 60+ points consecutive seasons under Dallas Eakins with guys like Grant and Deslauriers on his line for significant chunks of time. That’s an absolute joke brother
Considering Zegras is the third best player on Anaheims top line it’s just funny. He’s a great talent though and I’m certain will become an entertaining ppg+ winger for years to come
The most East Coast bias commentary in the history of sports. Zegras is magic and only on the wing last night to protect the 18 year old player from the boards. He was center prior to Carlsson playing. By every objective evaluation he is better than Caulfield.
He plays better at center because of his natural facilitating abilities in the middle of the ice but long term Carlsson and McTavish seem like a great 1-2 punch down the middle. As long as Z is on the wing with one of those talented pivots I don’t mind it too much because both process the game at or even above his level
