Ok.. not sure why your videos came up on my YT feed I watch alot of riding content and ride myself. I went back and see you have ridden a dirt bike for awhile.. in my opinion that alone has given you skills that you don't realize you have... you just need to worry about the real danger of everyone else on the road with you like that tool bag that stopped in the sidewalk in the intersection! Upward and Onward! Just subscribed

Parking lot practice will help a lot with your confidence in turning. Doughnuts, u-turn, swerving, figure 8’s , and emergency braking. Remember high speed turning you lean with the bike and low speed you lean away to counter balance. Keep riding and enjoy the open road

I still do parking lot practice, but I don't include it in my videos since my first 4 videos were all of that. :) Thanks for the comment!

Love all this. I’m a newish rider, myself. Got my first bike in October last year; an Indian Scout Bobber. I’m in my 40’s, so I’m not too worried about being irresponsible with it. At least not as much as I might’ve been when I was a bit younger. In fact, I had my eyes on a Rebel 500, but I got the bobber for an insane deal, and it’s my dream bike, so I’m rolling with it haha. Anyway, just wanted to drop a line from a fellow newer rider, and lend some encouragement. You are much braver than I to document your journey! If you haven’t already, subscribe to DanDanTheFireman. He’s a wealth of motorcycle safety knowledge and has given me several tools to help make me a safer rider. Stay safe, and I look forward to more content! 🙏🏻

Like others have said, leaning and cornering take time and practice. Enjoying watching you progress, keep it up!

@itsmissy_xo easier than I expected. Couple times the light changed in front of me fairly quickly and I messed up down shifting but nothing to bad.

The problem with watching new rider videos is there is a lot of them an they are all on the same bikes. It makes it hard to know who you commented what to. Your American-LaFrance green motorcycle does stand out though. Memorable. Not as much an the woman learning to ride with one hand, but a close second.
Anyway, you are doing great. The trust required to lean a bike over in a corner takes time. I still remember when I scraped a foot peg for the first time. I remember it like it was yesterday an it was 30 years ago. I scraped my floorboards Sunday in a corner identical to the sharp one in your videos. 30 years later an it felt exactly the same, way to exciting. Both times I thought I was going to fast, didn't think I was going to make it, but I shoved hard on that left bar, the bike layed over, sparks flew an the bike made the corner with ease. The bike can do way more than we think, we just have to trust it. And occasionally come in to a corner way hotter than we had planned.

Thanks for the comment as always! My high-vis bike certainly wasn't my first color choice but its growing on me, and it makes my unique! I just find it funny how I've done some pretty gnarly trail rides on my dirtbike with no issue, riding alongside big offroad trucks, other bikes, and SxS's, but I'm a big sissy when I ride on the street LOL. Just gotta keep at it :)

I live in a city and one thing that benefits is way more throttle and clutch control... traffic, stop, starts, slow riding, lights changing before you fully stop, filtering traffic... It's stressful but accelerate progress and muscle memory.
I didn't know Rebel doesn't have gear numbers on dash... that is weird
In terms of corners it's good to start learning trial breaking

I live pretty far from any major city, there's a lot more country roads with 45-55mph speed limits, as well as mountains and twisties :) There were a few times during my ride when the light turned green before I stopped, I just edited them out lol (I rode for almost 2 hours). Not ready for filtering/splitting yet but I'll get there eventually.
The new Rebels have gear indicators on the dash, this older one (2017) doesn't. Just odometer, speedo, gas gauge, and the various lights. Didn't think I needed it (I learned how to ride on a dirtbike) but now that I have it, I think it has progressed my riding. May be a placebo affect but I don't care LOL :)
      Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for videos! I’m a first time rider and learning on a rebel 500. Been doing parking lot practices but weather is 100 degrees here so it’s not quite so fun after about 45 minutes! Thank you for sharing your journey it helps me a lot and eases my jitters 😊

Hi Missy! I noticed that you selected the 91 Octane gas. I looked up the motor specs for your bike and only 87 Octane is required due to the compression. The higher Octane gas doesn't hurt but doesnt benefit either. You can save money by just using the 87 Octane rated gas. Great content though. Cheers!
