Have you take off the oil Pan for balance and lock oil pump? Is this a necessary work for change Chain and guide??? If i can replace the Chain without take off oil pan where i've to take particular attention?
Hi, thanks for your Video. I live in Germany and i want to change mine too, so please how i could buy the right timing tool here ? how can I be sure that it is the right one ? thanks and waiting for your reply
Hi mate question. If I do as follows on this video including fixing cranck shaft and cams. Would there be any risk of loosing timing when removing the crankshaft bolt without inserting a special spacer?
so i have a quick question. i cant seem to find the crankshaft fixing postion i even have a step by step guide from my local bmw dealer is it located on the downside of the gearbox or more right middle from the engine perspective?
Hi! Is it necessary to remove the oil pan in order to do this job? There are a few videos on the internet saying it's necessary to do so, but I can see you managed doing it without removing it!. Thanks!
Hi Mechanitek, How do I reset a jumped timing? I think mine jumped and it’s not starting now but chain is still intact. Many thanks for the helpful video
Mechanitek I’ve taken the rocker cover of and my timing is way way out. The exhaust cam is at the 1 o clock position but the inlet cam is just in the wrong position. How do I bring both cams into the right position. I’ve also found the crank locking hole, put the pin in and tried to lock at TDC but it won’t line up with the whole on the flywheel. What am I doing wrong? Should the hole line up when it’s at TDC?
I have a n43 i have replaced the chain but car runs terrible non drivable on start up will run for 10 seconds then cut out can revs up but runs rough have replaced vanos solonoids, oil and exhaust cam sensor. Codes are p0015 p0012 and b13b6
Hi I followed the procedure but whenever I go to start I get rough idle and running and code pop up relating to cam sensor but when unplugged the engine runs smooth and there's a slight chain noise any help appreciated thanks
@@mechanitek2097 thanks I have some video of the engine running and codes could I send it to your email and see if that's the problem please as I did the timing just now and plugged and unplugged the vanos and there was difference thanks
I hope to God nobody changes an N40, N42, N45 or N46 chain kit like this. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Firstly - you must always crack off the crankshaft bolt BEFORE you fit the flywheel locking pin. Use a locking tool in the flywheel teeth or a big old screwdriver, same for retightening. NEVER, EVER reuse the crank and cam bolts. These are stretch bolts to be used once only. Reuse the old ones and chances are, the cam and crank sprockets will move. USE A TORQUE WRENCH! The crank bolt is torqued to 300 nm. The camshaft sprocket bolts are torqued to 20 nm and then 90 degrees, and 90 degrees again. These bolts are torqued with the chain tension set, cam locks fitted and the cam plates locked. The N45 and N40 cam plate locks are different to the N42 and N46.

John witch special spacer?
why you have tightened the camshafts before tensioning the chain?
to exclude the load on the chain while tightening the shafts
Hi what's the torc setting u used for the crank and cams plus is it safe for the tool to hold them in place while tightening
thank so much
In the comments you say you need to remove the oil pan. Why you need to remove it?
N42 same procedure?

I have a question!
Dont move the balance shaft when i tightening to crankshaft bolt?

no if the flywheel is locked don't worry about it

I think he means to say tighten the chain.

Does the N45 engine 116i have balance shafts which have to be adjusted during this repair? Do you know?
Thanks a lot!
What about cam nobs position
What is the camshaft never align the way you show does that mean the timing has jumped?
yes this was the problem why the engine would not start

Right side under starter motor.and you need to clean this hole with sandpaper because it’s not easy to fit this pin
Sometimes in this hole it’s plastic cover just pull it
@@mechanitek2097 ah thank you very much, but the camshaft gear doesnt it need a certain position on the camshaft?

do you think i did not set up well camschaft position?
My crank pully wont turn does that mean I have to replace the chain cause I found parts broken

My chain was jumped too
Pelican it’s same operation just put camshafts approximately how they should and after you’ll remove the chain adjust it
Mechanitek thanks for the info. So I still need to remove the chain? And is there any way to check if it’s jumped before I start removing?
Pelican you can check camshafts angles with scanner or to open rocker cover

Or valve seals or piston rings
does anyone know that the Engine the N46 is? That is not the N40 or N45 or the N45T! Bullshit ist that. The N40 is the "Twin Turbo" Engine!
