I used the word junkie for 44 years, I used to be one to be honest
I was a heroin addict for 13 years and have been off it for years - I still use the term ‘junkie’. I know people at drug clinics and meetings don’t like the word, but I still use it. And if you really want to be pedantic, the word only applies to heroin addicts. ‘Junk’ is heroin and that’s where ‘junkies’ is derived from.
