Homeless in Las Vegas: Where Poverty Meets Big Money: • Homeless in Vegas: Whe...
The poor bore the brunt of the sub-prime and credit crisis of 2008. Today, it is the turn of the middle class. The impoverishment of the American middle class is brutal. In a country which established liberalism as a creed, there is no safety net. For those who lose their jobs, the consequences are instantaneous and dramatic.
Larry Dodson, 52, used to manage a large customer service department. But two years ago he lost his job and house. Today he lives in a motel room with his wife and two children and scraps by on $820 dollars a month, welcoming tourists to Disney World. After he has paid the motel fees, he’s left with just $70 for food and other necessities.
Terry used to be a sales manager and enjoyed a good life until he was made redundant. He ended up roaming from motel to motel in his car and eventually was judged ’economically incapable’ of raising his six children. The three eldest were placed in foster care. There are currently 1,800 children growing up in the motels around Disney World. They move from school to school as their parents are forced to find cheaper accommodation.
We spent six months following the daily life of families likes these, affected by the crisis.

I've been in my car for over 3 years now. I travel the country and do gig work. Most Americans have no idea how many Americans live in their cars. Think of it like an iceberg. The homeless you see on the streets are just the small tip of the iceberg, meanwhile there are hundreds of thousands of people that you don't see such as myself. I don't do drugs, I dont even drink alcohol. I work 6 days a week. I take care of my hygiene, health, etc all while sleeping in my car every day. I just view the good things about it. Sure I'm not in a home but I get to travel around, I get to do things on my own time. I've visited most of the national parks and a good majority of the states. Life is beautiful to me and will always be beautiful no matter the circumstances

@NOLA Love none taken. I dont make enough money to afford a home but I do make enough money to where I know I'll survive. I know others who aren't as fortunate. I'm a frugal person and living in my vehicle traveling around is over twice as cheap as back when I had an apartment. When I did have an apartment before I was forced to leave it was pretty much all of my income. I'd go days without eating sometimes just so I would have money to pay rent. I wouldn't go anywhere because that meant spending rent money on gas. Now I make even less money but besides having to live in my vehicle I no longer worry about if I can eat today or if I can put gas in my car. Looking back at it now it almost seems like I was working just so I can sleep in my prison cell "apartment" every night.

@@Susan-kd3rv Breeding like unconscious animals is all egotistical delusion and narcissism because it is their spawn. Forcing a human into existence, aka a death trap is just an act of murder and r@ping someone into existence. It’s the worst and original sin of all sins that allows all other horrors to occur.
Dont forget about Food. The “drug” of choice. They are OBSESSED with food life revolves around it. Breediotards consider themselves heroes and make it their life purpose to feed their spawn and imagine that’s what perfect parenting is. Put kids in front of the idiotbox(teLIEvision)/tab/iphone with a stuffed table 3 times a day(if lucky). Incessant supply of food on the table. Nothing more. They are perfect martyrs- the perfect grownup victims of the ungrateful little beings they brought into this world-they say “out of love” - i say out of Narcissism- agreeing with you fully on everything you wrote above. They love themselves only. If they had any real love for kids - oh when i hear them “ i love kids” i vomit- how about the millions of orphans who are waiting to be adopted? Oh the hypocrites. They love what? An uncreated being that they need to fk as MiniMe into this mad asylum? And then either “golden child” them as a Badge of Honor for their own perfection, little mini puppets to demonstrate the world how great and accomplished they are, or - if the little spawns are not fully compliant - BlackSheep them- oh the ungrateful little bstards who doesnt understand the sacrifices made for him or her by their Martyr Mommy Narc and Daddy Absent - (most likely). The older they get the nastier they are- and the Good ones- the good gentle parents who are just unconscious or naive and follow societal norms or make the mistake to idealize romantic love - - for whatever reason, this insane universe gives them EVIL children… who are raised properly and righteously- yet grow up entitle abusive and manifest an evil seed since almost birth. This mad asylum seems purposely designed to frustrate and abuse and self perpetrate such , ad nauseam. With the blind leading the blind and all good and bad alike with a veil on their brains SHUNNING and ABUSING anyone who steps out of the NORM normally. I emphasise NORMALLY- which for me is refusing to perpetrate evil, to breed, to associate with societal concepts (race nationality religions etc) to swing to the opposite mindturd pendulum of psychological disturbances - distorting reality with new aberrations (id ent ify with “gen … er … “ )… and to LIE. TO FEAR. TO impose my will on another.
Let s not forget the positive categories: Naive young people who idealized romantic love and were not properly educated by aware awake human beings - because if they had awake aware human beings tor parents they wouldnt exist lol So they go ahead innocently ignoring the reality of the world and buying the idealized version of family heaven presented to them with our “daily bread” god said go multiply hahaha and our daily “hollywood romance” movies. I have lots of empathy for the good souls that bred out ot naivety. Not all of us have the benefit of an intelligent critical mind and the societal pressure is simply too huge. Some of us have been blessed to awaken early or to have such an inquisitive mind that it just didnt make sense. I empathize with all the souls conned in this universal de ce ption. Decease-caption. Deception. Lies. All lies lead to death. Truth leads to life. I started to live when i realized the human life is a lie. From start to end.

The phenomenon of people living in cars and experiencing partial homelessness in the USA is driven by a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income levels make stable housing unattainable for many, pushing them towards alternative living situations like cars. Income inequality and stagnant wages further exacerbate the challenge, leaving individuals with limited financial resources for housing. Sudden job loss, prolonged unemployment, and lack of social support systems contribute to housing instability. Additionally, rising medical expenses, rental evictions, and the absence of affordable housing options force some into car-based living arrangements. Systemic issues, including inadequate social safety nets and government policies, play a role in perpetuating this phenomenon.

While home prices may eventually decline, it's advisable to diversify by reallocating from real estate into financial markets or gold, given the current context. With the current mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, transitioning from real estate is prudent, especially considering stricter mortgage guidelines. To restore market balance, home prices might need to decrease significantly, around 40-50%. If you're seeking guidance, consulting an independent advisor well-versed in financial markets is a wise step.

yeah, that is really sad to me. You know whenever my kids start acting entitled or not appreciating things I have to remind them they have no idea how lucky they are. They’ve never known hardship like that and probably never will but I know there’s a lot of kids that they go to school with now they’ve gotten older and kids talk more than they did in elementary school and there’s kids at their school who can’t eat lunch every day because their lunch money Hass to be budgeted and there is a free lunch program and a discount lunch program I’m assuming from what I understand this particular kid gets discounted school lunch and the parents still can’t afford for her to eat every day and the dad was in jail and the mom was in the hospital and this girl is 12 years old, and she was literally left alone at home by herself I was floored so she was getting up on her own and getting on the school bus every day or not I guess depending and the social worker and resource officer at the school were already aware of it as a mandated reporter I am obligated to take action on those things, and I don’t do it to hurt anybody and nobody’s going to get their kids taken away just for being poor they’re going to get them some help but if there is abuse or neglect going on, then that’s a different story and that’s just one example I’ve heard a number of other things about kids that my kids go to school with and just the hard hard shifts that they face my best friend does foster care, and she recently changed her license to allow for more children because the need was so great and they told her they needed her to take these kids. They had no placement for them and these kids that she gets they really are old souls they’ve been through so much and according to their biological parents, they were combative and delinquent and difficult at home and then they go to live with my friend and she said they are the most polite, loving appreciative kind hearted kids, and they’re just ecstatic to have a mom and a dad and a family and family dinners and to get to go shopping for clothes at the sporting good store and the athletic store and actually have clothes and shoes that fit and go out to dinner and go out and do fun activities and things some of these kids she said have never been to a sit down restaurant or a family restaurant they’ve never had a birthday party never had a single piece of clothing that was brand new and it’s just so sad. Kids shouldn’t have to worry about the basics like a roof over their head and food on the table and electricity and clean clothes and a loving role model.

In Asheville NC a cheap hotel is 1000 dollars a month. They wont rent to locals in most cases. A run down motel room, the cheapest I have found is 80.00 a night. You couldn't touch a motel for 149.00 per week around here. People would love that. Most homeless live on the streets because they cant afford a room and even if they get enough money for a room, most motels wont let them in. Its a cold heartless world.

I never did lose my kids and we are now in a house and haven't been homeless since then. We were only homeless for 2.5 months but it took me about a year to recover physically and mentally from that. My blood pressure ran high for about a year after. It took me months to get my appetite back after because of the combo of bad boxed and canned food, lack of even that, and stress...I got to where I would get sick when I ate. I had to coax my appetite back by drinking ensures for a bit there. Having a vahicle when homeless makes a world of difference though.

By the time I was 23, my husband and I (high school sweethearts) had our 3 children. Some families start young. My husband graduated with his bachelor’s when I was pregnant with our third child…I graduated with my bachelor’s when our third child was 8 years old. It’s definitely NOT for everyone, and I am so happy to say that our children are now 20, 18 and 16…they are educated, not having their own children!, and we are successful preparing to be empty-nesters. We beat the statistics. It was quite difficult at times, but we’ve made it! So glad that our kids are taking the more traditional route into adulthood!

Coming from someone who's had to do it many times. The best thing to do is quit smoking, quit drugs, quit beer and liquor, sign up on section 8, get snap, save up at least 3 months rent, deposits, and save up for 3 months groceries. Apply at every apartment complex that excepts section 8 and get on their waiting list during your long 1-2 year section 8 waiting list. Eventually your name will come up at the top of the waiting lists and you're next. Don't eat out.

Got my Section 8 from a shelter. Spent around 6 months there then a secondary party pulled my name from the system and took on my case. 2-3 months later I got Section 8. Now it took me a whole YEAR to actually use the voucher and thank God for the extensions. Because so many landlords illegally discriminate against voucher holders, and even the ones who don't are still looking to squeeze as much out of you and the HA as possible. Recently passed another law capping deposits at 2x the rent because these insane people wanted $5k+ and nobody was paying that. Not even the county.

This is why it's important to save something every week. I was homeless, living in my car at one point. I had to claw my way out of poverty. I went to a trade school and now work for myself making more than I would have ever imagined. It takes hard work but it is possible. There are several fields that require just a little education but it's worth it.

Well, as the mother of 3 almost grown children, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, I could not have done this without my husband. A dedicated provider, and brilliant supporter. I absolutely needed him, and he absolutely needed me, and neither one of us could have pulled this off without the other.

This is why I never had kids. It was too hard and I couldn’t afford it. I saw my parents struggle and I never wanted to experience that again. I remember sleeping in my car in college one time. Now that I am older, I have a pretty good income, purchased my second home about 5 yrs ago with my husband (his first home) and I am about to retire in 2 years, I am still glad that I didn’t have any kids. The world is cruel, I would be worrying all the time and I wouldn’t be where I am today if I did have kids.

I also chose not to have kids after seeing how difficult my mother's life was after my father died unexpectedly. She was left widowed in her 30s with two kids under the age of 2. You can be doing ok and then life takes a hard left turn on you. Ño kids for me! And when I think about it, I am grateful and feel like I've dodged a bullet when I see parents suffer and struggle.

@@claudebourque9791there’s no parliament in the U.S. This isn’t UK or Europe or Japan. It’s Congress. US is at much vulnerable situation as they only have two party system, which are allowed to be bribed (they call it lobbying but it’s bribing by corporations). Having only two parties is the core of their political failure actually. And ability to lobby. They proudly call this “capitalism” while other countries call true extortions of average people. America is much much more corrupted than any other G7 nations and they spend too much money keeping so called “World Order” yet the corrupted like Biden gives so much money to the CCP Chinese by mandating the environment harming EVs that endorse modern slavery in African countries funded by CCP China. This is all because of greed. In America, greed for yourself comes first before respect for others, which they call “capitalism” and “American Dream”. The problem is America doesn’t have any great industry to sustain average Americans. And politicians don’t regulate anyone even monopoly corporations as they’re too hungry for the get rich fast. That’s why they have no universal healthcare. And America has always been this way. But too much progressive liberals are ruining the U.S. for the average Americans. They are becoming a third world country actually by eliminating the middle class. It’s sad actually. But American politicians have been this ruthless. It’s just the US is no longer in up and up economy, yet all these corporations are expected to continue operating in double or triple growth. It’s ridiculous and unrealistic actually. Investors think America is still in 50s or something.

That little boy of 13 really got to me. He has been put into circumstances that have caused him to be troubled and fretful about his living conditions. When he said, "I have to be the man of the house," he really is taking on those responsibilities of an adult. 💔
All these children and families are out there, and the lack of affordable housing makes it near impossible to save money, let alone have enough for a deposit. These children may suffer chronic illness, nutrition, education, and so many maladies and mental health problems that are compounded by not having access to medical care.
I donate to shelters (the one's that do not charge a cent, everything is free) and I donate my time when I can and then see documentaries like this and wish I could do more. I'm just this tiny drop in an ocean.
Idk, sad because I do not think this can be resolved by society to such a complex issues. Now, the government could make a huge difference...if they decide to stop spending our tax money unnecessarily and with absurdity!!!
Prayers for all of us 🩷
