    Dude! You saved my life with this video!
    More specifically you saved my trip to burning man. I have a shuttle bus built on an e450 that was leaking, and I have no experience working on vehicles. With your video I was able to diagnose and fix the issue, which shocked my family and saved me about $1200.
    Your little pex hack worked like a charm, and the only issue I had was trying to get the hoses unhooked by the firewall. Ended up using 90 degree pliers with nuts electrical taped on the end to finally get those hoses loose.
    Thanks again!

    Thanks for doing all the "footwork " here. Very informative and it helped me figure out how to save a lot of time! good coverage specifically on getting the connectors handled and knowing what that drain hose on the plastic cover went to. ***edited addition: I ended up cutting the pipes with a carbide oscillating tool even though I had gotten a piece of pex and made the removal tool. My connectors were gummed up, but the pex worked perfectly when the connectors were cleaned up. I thought I had an intake manifold coolant leak, but the O-rings had been leaking and running along the hose to the connector on the top of the intake. I knew I was losing coolant somewhere. Even bought a new intake manifold. Had to replace the O rings and it was a bit of a trial because the old ones were swelled or something making them hard to match. I ended up using pipe-size ID with a 3/32 ring on the bottom and a pipe size ID with a 1/8 on the top connectors' hose with a little silicone lube. Could not find the specs but bought a bunch of O-rings from harbor freight and found them. Also had to make a center spacer ring for the lower fitting. made it out of same pex sliced on my miter saw after I sanded the OD down to match the pieces of the old spacer. Had to cut a slot to make it work but it's doing fine so far. So it looks like I can return my intake manifold. One more thing, I ended up getting an extra narrow set of slip joint pliers as the 10 "channel-locks" I had wouldn't fit into the slot. It was an Irwin Vice-Grip with fine adjustment on the slip-teeth. about 7" long, 1/4" wide jaw. probably would be better to use something w/o teeth on the jaw as there were tooth gouges on the catches that made it a bit more difficult to slide the connectors back together. Thanks again, you're a trooper dude!

    Good video Reuben. It is the little things that make a huge difference on us DIYs. such as your invention with the pex pipe. The only constructive criticism that I can offer if I might, is that never put old parts back in as now those O rings more than likely will fail before the heater core itself.

    I was able to get the plastic tabs off the heater core by pulling the tabs backwards towards you. Intuitively you would think this would break them, but in my case it didn't. This flips the latch around so it isn't latched anymore, and you can pull it off. No need for pex method.

    The only thing you did wrong was taking those white clips out of the hoses , they make a special tool that looks similar to that PEX thing you were using that you put on the tube and and compress and then the whole hose comes off with the white thing and the O-rings and everything else still attached to the hose you're not supposed to completely disassemble the O-rings and the plastic and all that stuff, it's actually much much easier the correct way than what you did

    For future reference, Fords use a lot of quick disconnects like those. They sell a convenient set of removal tools just for them at the auto parts store and Harbor Freight for about $10.

    • @rngwrm
      @rngwrm 2 года назад

      think it's just 6 hex head screws (maybe a 7th at bottom center?). it's the two at the top w/ impossible space / angles to easily get at that'll ruin your day. can't remember if i did a socket on a handle or a long skinny philips, but it's about time to finally reassemble, so i'd better figure it out (provided all the loose parts i left rolling around in the floorboard for 9 months haven't vanished by now)

    • @ReubenSahlstrom
      @ReubenSahlstrom  3 года назад +2

      Somebody else commented and said there are two heater cores. If that is true then maybe you do have to the drop the dash, but I was not aware of this prior to replacing this core. If you know which one is leaking and it's the same one as I do in this video, then you probably don't need to drop the dash. Good luck!
