I'll be honest EZFN is probably the last project that would take feedback in this kind of form. I hate the change too but EZFN does what EZFN wants to do they never have cared for opinions unless they themselves ask for them.
The good news is that EZFN ended up putting back the server status bot! While EZFN certainly doesn't always respond to feedback, I'm glad they fixed this issue!
Last I checked EZFN pulls the highest player counts, maybe try EU and see if it's playable? Depends on where you live in NA, but you may get usable ping.
Yeah not ideal, but in season 4 in particular is more usable at higher ping as the pace of the game is slower. Might be worth a try, but I could understand if you don't want to bother at 100+ ping.
