What a beautifully narrated journey through the Balkans! The description of Sveti Stefan (05:41-10:18) truly captures its timeless allure. @@SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath Nope! So if Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia, that doesn't make it Balkan. You don't know much history i see. Name originates from times of Turkish invasions. Only small part of Slovenia is considered geographical balkan, but not Bled! If you ask Slovenes, not Balkan at all! What makes Slovenia Balkan is their imigrants from ex-Yu republics......
Romania is a very unique geographical case. Everything is west of the Romanian Carpathians and north of the Transilvanian mts, could count as central Europe (Transilvania belongs to the Panonian Basin), everything is east and south of them, counts as eastern Europe and finally only a small southeastern romanian part which is the only one that lies south of the Danube river, counts as Balkan. Greece on the other hand counts as Balkan from Epirus and Ionian Islands to Thrace and the 3 Thracian Sea islands till south to the Peloponnese and the Cyclades. Crete, Kasos and Karpathos islands are seeming something like "intepentant" geographicaly, but the very eastern Aegean islands (Lesvos till Rhodos and Kastellorizo) are counting as the westernmost tip of Asia both geographicaly and in some cases naturaly (fauna/flora). 😁 The westernmost tip of Asia is especially Psara and Antipsara small islands west of Chios island!!! Slovenia is almost 40% Balkan and 60% Central European. 😉
Modern borders of Balkan "peninsula" are stretched on all three sides. Romania but also Slovenia is very unique geographical case. 🙂 "Balkan" & "Central Europe" does not exclude each other. Not whole "peninsula" is in Southeast Europe. Whole Slovenia is in southern part of Central Europe. Southern part which is on "peninsula" (about 30 %) is still more in Central Europe than Northern part of Serbia (Vojvodina) which is not on "peninsula" & Central East same as Romanian case. Whole Greece {geographically} except Peloponnese, Euboea + islands is on the Balkan "peninsula". Greece is in fact the only Balkan country which is the most "peninsular" + European part of Turkey {Thrace}. ☘
@tienshinhan2524 I'm counting some Greek islands as Balkan cause of their same geological expansion of the mainland Greece. Cyclades are the more southeastern part of the Balkan tectonic plates, the southernmost is Kythera island. North Sporades are also the expansion of Pelion peninsula, so... Balkan. The same exists about the Ionian Islands, like Zakynthos on the last moments of the video. Also the 3 Greek islands of the Thracian Sea (Thasos, Samothrace and Limnos) and the one Turkish today (Imvros/Imroz), are the geological expansion of the mainland Balkan peninsula. But every island near the Minor Asian peninsula, geographically and geologically counts as a western Asian expansion, like my island Lesvos. If you see the Aegean relief in Google Earth you will understand how the Aegean is divided geologicaly into 3 parts, the west-north, east and the southern (between the Cyclades and Crete-Kasos-Karpathos). I also think that Santorini island is divided from the rest cycladic sea bottom as a more independent island. The only sure thing is that also Astypalea island which is the westernmost of the Dodecanese islands, has its own sea bottom, cause during the last ice age still remained as an island, when the Cyclades from which is looking like as their southeastern most tip, were connecting to the mainland hellenic peninsula (Balkans). As about the rest you said and especially about Slovenia, you are absolutely correct, because I also believe that the country is almost central European, except if you count the part of the country with the Dynnaric Alps, as the Balkan part (the 30% as you said).
@@Fallacia_Konstantinos Well, yes with "except islands" I was meaning on mainland Greece only, terittory of Greece that doesn't have terittorial contact with islands. But I agree with you in those things about Greek islands. About Slovenia... whole terittory of Slovenia is in Central Europe, including that Southern part which is on Balkan "peninsula" or Dinaric part of Slovena. That terittory Southern from Sava - Vipava - Soča rivers does not make that terittory nothing more Eastern, it's only Southern of it. Same with Trieste, Istria... For me Slovenia & Slovenes are more or less political Balkans {just because of former Yugoslavia}. I think that one of the biggest mistakes is when people think that all Balkan "peninsula" is in Southeastern Europe, same thing with term "Western Balkans" ... I as Serb I can tell that Serbia is not even 1 inch on Western Balkans but in Central Balkans, while Western Balkans geographically is exactly Slovenia & Western part of Croatia {Istria, Gulf of Kvarner, Lika ...}.
Balkan peninsula geographically excludes Slovenia and Romania. Greece is a part of it, of course. But the natural border separating the Balkan peninsula from mainland Europe are the rivers Sava and Danube.
And the information about Sofia was actually for Plovdiv (which somehow was described like... accidentally part of BG)...They also showed Saint Stefan(to the west),but not Nessebar (to the east)... Greece also was not presented as a 100% balkan countie...Which is.... However-tumbs up...

Very good video, but you made some mistakes... 0:58 "Balkan peninsula is located in Southeastern Europe". Majority of Balkan peninsula is in Southeastern Europe but not whole "Balkan peninsula" is in Southeastern Europe. At 1:29 you said "& Slovenia" & then "parts of Greece & Turkey also lie within the geographic boundaries of the Balkans". In fact European part of Turkey {Thrace} is whole on "Balkan peninsula" & whole mainland Greece is on the "peninsula", but not Peloponnese, Euboea & Greek islands. Greece is 80 % + on the "peninsula" while some other countries {Romania, Slovenia} have minor geographical part on the "peninsula". You should show only cities/places that are geographically on the "peninsula", for example Transylvania, lake Bled, Hvar, & Zakynthos island are not on "peninsula". But ok, good video, thumbs up. 👍🔵☘
