This is fantastic, I never saw this and I have loved Anne Bancroft since the 50's when I saw her on Person to Person. She was such a gutsy dame as we said in NY. A brilliant talent and here looks beautiful and as said that deep, torch song voice. How Splendid. Thank you forever.
She was such a great actress and fascinating woman. Her Mrs. Robinson was matcheless. There was something so sensual about her... Yes, the older Anne Bancroft was even more amazing....
WOW! This is amazing... I hadn't seen any of her movies until a few months ago (The Graduate!) and now I absolutely adore her. And now I can even hear her sing!!! :))
Julie London sound but more emotional--a revelation. Surprised she never had a recording career. Excellent in Don't Bother to Knock, in which she is a lounge singer.
Anne was a candidate as Fanny in Funny Girl but she only didnt play The role because she rejected it sayiing that the songs needed a better singer and Barbra was cast
not surprising. Back in the day you had to be able to SING AND DANCE just to get into hollywood. The Mrs. Robinson seduction scene is one of my all time favorites. It's right up there with the revival scene from The Abyss.
Was this the special where Dick Smothers sang "Momma, Look Sharp," from the musical 1776, with Anne as his mother? I'd really like to see that. This is lovely--thanks.
Anne Bancroft was given the script for "Funny Girl", and she agreed to do it if she could handle the score. After she heard the score (and possibly due to her being on the outs at the time with producer David Merrick), she said that she wanted no part of it and that it wasn't for her. Lucky break for Barbra Striesand.
Funny Girl composer said he was intentionally writing the score out of her range because he wanted Streisand for the role and was writing the music with Barbra in mind. The score at the time was far out of her range and she backed out.
It's called "I Don't Want To Walk Without You" and was a song first sung by Betty Jane Rhodes in the 1942 film Sweater Girl. Frank Loesser wrote the lyrics and Jule Styne composed the music. Big Band singer Helen Forrest's version with the Harry James Orchestra was the most famous and successful recording of it but it has been recorded a number of other times as well. This link has the lyrics to the song: www.google.com/#q=i+don%27t+want+to+walk+without+you+lyrics
Anne Bancroft was a first choice to play Fanny Brice in the original Broadway production of FUNNY GIRL (as were Edie Gorme and Carol Burnett). Bancroft felt the songs were beyond her vocal capabilities. Eventually the role went to someone whose name escapes me at the moment ...
Wow--I can tell that she is a smoker just from hearing her voice. It's true, she would look that much more beautiful and sexy if she didn't smoker. She was only 36 in the graduate...what a shame :(
This is from "Annie, the Women in the Life of a Man" (1970 TV special). She won an Emmy for it, too!
I always knew she was a great actress I had no idea she could sing!

I love her voice..and deep voices in general!
Absolut wonderful...
I love her dark voice
WOW! This is amazing... I hadn't seen any of her movies until a few months ago (The Graduate!) and now I absolutely adore her. And now I can even hear her sing!!! :))
Fantastic! Miss her but thankfully we still have her to marvel at.
Astonished that she was also a strong and talented singer. 😢😮🌹
I knew she was a great actress...but never knew she could sing like that:)) wow!
What a beautiful lady with a nice, velvet voice...
She was Italian - and goodness knows - they can all sing.
Everyone loves Anne. You just can't help it. Who knew she could sing Thanks.

@budboxzur Anne Bancroft was the Anne Bancroft of her generation.
This is such a joy! Thank you so much.
I want t big cushion too. Seriously this is a great performance from Anne. Interesting this concept of singing lying down, some folks swear by it
Hermosa ¡¡¡
Wow! Just WOW! Thank you creepgreen for sharing this with us.
@showersinger547, Three years later, but the movie you're referring to is "Don't Bother To Knock".
Fabulous
I miss her :(

In the pantheon of Hollywood goddesses, if Marilyn Monroe was Aphrodite, Anne Bancroft was Athena!
Anne Bancroft was the Angelina Jolie of her generation with a lot fewer children.

@ MacNair : Touche! She was her own of her own generation.
Bancroft the best .

Old Anne Bancroft is sexier than the young one. She was very nice actress.
Anne Bancroft was the Angelina Jolie of her generation.
what's this song called, i love her. Can some one tell me the song :)

What song is this?
Helen Forrest made this song popular.
Is there anything the woman couldn't do?!

Great song and great voice but bizarre set and she did look gorgeous here but I wish she didn't smoke it did make her look a bit older than she was.
Except Angelina Jolie isn't even hot...
