I have to admit at first I read "surface area of a square". I was 5 minutes trying to figure out why my answer wasn't part of the choices. Then I read the problem again and felt dumb.
Just assume a=4. Got surface area=6, which means the area of one face is 1 and the side is 1. Thus perimeter is 1*4=4, which is a. Assuming a value will make the deduction easier
6(a/4)² since we want one side we can remove the 6. So now it's (a/4)², then to find one side we find the square root of it. So now it's a/4, then to find the perimeter we multiply one side by 4 so the answer is a :)
This question is not actually testing your mathematical ability but rather how much care and attention you show or if you just rush. Note how many people see how easy it is and just in error, rushing and careless choose the first option (side length) and move on. So it's less of a math question and more of a question about human characteristics.
