You're welcome
If the ballast is good, will it beep if you touch each of them? Thanks
Thanks! Is there a way to do this test with the ballast installed in the fixture? I saw somebody check for shorts across the terminals where the bulb ends go. Wondered if this is another way to do it.
The best thing to do is go ahead and change the ballast
So there should be no resistance (no reading) on all of the yellow, red, and blue wires?
can you check ballast without disconnecting it from light?
So I changed the ballast becusse the light wouldn’t come on. Replace bulb nothing Turn on lights it would come on for 1 sec and turn off. Replaced ballast but Same thing 😭😭😭 can u give me some advice please
You know i just tried this with 2 bad ballast. Black lead to neutral, then red lead to the other wires like in the video and all showing OL. I set the meter to ohms and it’s on auto range.
Before i remove the ballast, i check the power first to make sure i am getting power. Then i replace the ballast.
I just replaced a bad fluorescent ballast for a four tube setup. And after getting the lights back on, I decided to troubleshoot the old ballast itself. Well I found the two power NPN transistors were blown. So I thought I would just buy two new transistors and fix it for a backup spare... NO i didn't! The cost from every place I checked sold those transistors for about 2/3'd the cost of a new ballast. So I scaped it for parts and moved on...
Exactly
So if theres resistance its bad? If theres no resistance reading its good?
I think the best thing to do is replace it; especially if it’s over 10 years old
Is the power to the ballast on or off?
never check resistance while power is on. It will probably blow a fuse in your meter and you can't get a reading like this anyways. :)
It will not damage the instrument
Thank you
Don’t try and fix it; replace with a new one. It will probably last for decades.
@@weldingandstuff I already fixed it replace the ballast works as good as new thanks
