I’ve only been watching ralfys videos for a week but I’ve been a keen scotch drinker since I was 18 (16 years ago) , I’ve been really trying to be more mindful of what I’m drinking recently though and tonight because of these videos I’ve tried Margot 3 year , next to Jameson’s and Ardbeg 5... I’ve also blended the last 1/4 of a bottle of Highland Park 12 that I just wasn’t feeling with some of the Margot and a splash of Jameson’s and I’ve got some Caol ila on order to top it up - should be good stuff .
I can’t go wrong with anything Ardbeg on the label though. This 5 is right up there with the 10, I wouldn’t say one is better than the other there just different. Young peated whiskies are so great. Anyway I’m rambling , I’m gonna finish this dram of wee beastie and fall asleep.

I very much enjoy your reviews. Where most are either too simple or vague and others are too harsh and snobbish, i find you are not only thorough and specific in your reviews but also very fair. And your sense of humor and playful attitude are most welcome. While I fully admit to "sharing the joys" greatly with friends on occasion I do know the joy of simple, moderate enjoyment of a pleasant whiskey and you have guided me to more than a few very pleasant evenings sipping on something new and lovely. Keep doing what you do and I'll raise a toast to you, a true Malty Mentor.

In my opinion Jamesons is a solid, reliable, good enough whisky. I've drunk numerous bottles , and no doubt will drink many more.
But, as far as inexpensive Irish whiskys go, I much prefer Knapouge Castle.
They're about the same price, (around$25-$30) in New Hampshire, USA and a bargain at that!
By the way Ralpy, I've never seen, nor have I ever heard of anyone mixing this with coke. We drink it neat or sometimes with an ice cube or two.
I did know one fellow who drank Dewers and ginger ale, but he was a suspicious character and usually up to no good!
Never mix! Whisky's already got a flavor. It's whisky flavored!

It is so UN-Smokey. I went to the Jameson's 'non-smoke thingy' place, where it was born. Dublin? Very interesting, love it. Absolutely recommend a visit to the distillery in Dublin. I loved the way they gave you a testing at the end of an amazing tour around the distillery... You had to guess which was smokey and which was not.....which was Jameson's and which was a smokey yank! Gorgeous. Dublins Jamesons factory museum has to be seen and experienced. Loved it. You learn a lot! Has to be experienced!!! A great Whiskey, a clean flavour, edgy. Love it.

I'm a bit confused. I'm a novice to Whiskey, got a bottle of regular blended Bushmills whiskey for my birthday, which I like a lot. If I understand right, when it contains malt and it's produced from only 1 distillery, it's "malt" whisky? Blended whisky has malt in it too no? Anyway, how would you compare the Jameson with the Bushmills blended? (review 120). I tasted Jameson in a pub (not ideal in my opinion) and found the Bushmills more rich in flavour and taste.

Now knowing you Ralfy, you don't approve of the tins they use in the packaging, becuase this bottle (you reviewed in this video) came in one. Personaly I like it; as long as they (the distilleries) are not making too many tins/special packaging for their regular line of whiskey i'm fine with it.
Planning on opening it up when I'm done with school and graduate. Great video

I like Jameson's. I like the 12 yr old best, so far. I find it tolerable, and smooth. Just bought the 18. Not going to break open til I finish my btl of 12. I'd love to see a review of JW Blue too. I like Chivas, so far, for Scotch, but have not learned to appreciate single malts yet. They implode my head. Tried it for 1st time last night- (Jan. 2017). Surprising and delicious IMO. Might it have improved a lot since this review? Seemed an immediate arrival, fresh, keen and bold, good mouth feel... The flavours I got were vanilla, peaches, apricot, candy-floss pepper and cream. But the flavour I really like is a mystery, because I haven't experienced it before... something kind of like that Purdey's health drink from the 1980s... I don't have the best taste-bus, but I got a lot out of this whiskey... I think it was because the flavours weren't shy.
Maybe it's worth another review now.

Oi, I'm originally from Ireland (Or should I say me ancestors are) and I actually enjoy Jameson. Not only do I find the price affordable, but it really has good flavor for the dime.
I usually enjoy it straight and non-chilled as well, but over the years I've been drinking it; I've found a really good flavor combination, but I don't generally recommend it to lightweight drinkers.
You can take about a ¼ glass of Jameson and drink it hand-in-hand with Guiness. The flavors mix beautifully!

My humble tasting notes are as the following:
nose (before adding water): bitter chocolate, dried figs, nutty, candy shop.
nose (after adding water): very fragrant, hazelnut, marzipan, caramel candy, vanilla, tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, banana, a hint of cinnamon.
taste: pretty sweet, vanilla, hazelnut, grassy, tobacco, cigar, cereal, flower honey, treacle.
finish: medium, vanilla is present in front, spicy and grainy.
    Cheers,

I once made an Irish Coffee with Redbreast 12 year old. Surprisingly the pure pot still character still made it through the coffee but I don't think I'll attempt that again. The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco (which is believed to be the first place in America to serve Irish Coffee) uses Tullamore Dew but any inexpensive Irish blend will work in an Irish Coffee.

Hello Ralf. Have you reviewed Paddy and Powers Gold Label ?

As far as I can work out, Jameson is the most popular because it is marketed as a mixer. I find Bushmills far superior. But what do you think of Jameson 12 year?

Makers Mark is currently my favorite whisky to drink neat. They don't use any rye in their mash, they use winter wheat instead. This give the whisky a much smoother finish. Lots of wood and honey notes, delicious bourbon. Plus they have a unique aging process where they rotate the barrels for consistent aging. They age their whisky no less than 5.5 years and as long as 7.5 years. A great choice you wont go wrong with.

Awesome review! I drink this one regularly and never with Coke or Lemonade (it is fine all by itself with an ice cube). I like it a lot. I don't drink just for the effect I really like the way it tastes. I have learned a lot from you so far and hope to try some of the more flavorful whiskeys. Thank you for reviewing this one!

Hi Ralfy, which is better Jim Beam or Jameson? I'm looking for a wood quality whisky that is affordable

Jameson, by far. It's more bearable and has more of a taste and structure than Jim Beam. Jim beam tastes like nail polish remover

Bought a bottle of this on impulse tonight having never tried it.I liked the nose.Sweet and sour.An average experience thereafter but infinitely better than blends i have tried costing very few pounds less.
I went in for the 10yr old Aberlour at £22 that was sadly sold out.Did i miss out much?

I bought a 200 ml of Jameson a while back just out of curiosity, and I didn't enjoy the little bit of flavor at all. It just seemed completely watered down as well. I tried it again a few days later and I couldn't understand why anyone would ever buy it twice. I have enjoyed every Scotch Whisky that I've tried, along with Elijah Craig bourbon. I will try some of the rum selections you recommended also. I just can't see how this even received a rating of over 80. Perhaps I'll try it with water.

this Irish Whiskey is a blend , if you compare it to other brands which would be close in similarity? , and is it delinquent smooth or harsh ?, how do you compare it to Chivas 12 ?

    • @BobPapadopoulos
      @BobPapadopoulos 8 лет назад

It's very smooth. Lots of sweetness from the sherry casks and a peppery finish, but overall a very mild whiskey.

    Hi,
Thanks a ton for all your good work Ralfy! I share your view with the "jagged taste" about this one. I recently had the chance to taste the 18yo Special Reserve : same thing, but with a layer sugary flower. Btw, all your knowledge is being passed around in Québec... by me! I'm up to my 3rd whiskey tasting session with friends and coworkers :) I'm a strong supporter of Té Bheag. I think it lacks subtely, but given it's very low price, it's a great whisky.

Is this a single malt or a blended whiskey? it doesn't specify on the label.

yet don't make it clear, this is a blend of column and potstill Irish whiskey of potentially various grains.
