    One thing to note is to never ever place your mud can/bucket underneath or near your project, for if you do it when your scraping or sanding, the hard granular dried mud falls into it, & then you can never seem to get another smooth coat out of it as it will mix w/ the wet stuff, scratching & scraping it as you apply it. Now I'm not saying you would do that but the fact i did that is just my point of warning those that might also do that. Thanks for your time & how to do it.

    Easy way is often best. Just a little patience. Thanks for a great tutorial. (I have watched a couple of others - where they use too many screws!, Which could be confused later on for electrical wiring etc). I think your job is the best repair I have seen. Thanks for sharing.

    .
    In the right sort of light, that patch repair will stand out like dogs gonads, because the product GIB Tradeset® is on the surface of the wall, by 2 millimeters or there about.
    .
    The right sort of living room lamp will show that 2 millimeters up, well.
    I have that very same effect on my ceiling in the bathroom !

  • @duxmealux281
    @duxmealux281 6 лет назад +8

    Using a heat gun will significantly reduce waiting times and personally i think the tape is unnecessary, it will protrude from the wall and not make a flush patch.
    Also you must use undercoat before painting topcoat otherwise you'll always see a shodow of where the patch is and eventually will peel.
    Paint shops never make perfect colour match so its better to repaint the wall, unless you dont care too much about a slightly off colour touch up on the wall.

    My plumber was looking for pipe leeks and went behind the bathroom wall and into the room behind it and the wall. He cut two rectanglar boxs in the walls to look at the pipes. He found no problems there and left those two holes there. He went on to find the problem elsewhere.
    How do I repair the damage he did? Can I use those square cuts he made and repaste them back?

    • @gsf67

      It is advisable to leave a 5mm gap around the edge of the plasterboard and the repair patch. This gives you a little more "play" will ensure that the fit is not too tight.

    I live in a apartment building and I can't replace the wall areas that have big holes in it
    I literally have to tape it up with wall tape and plaster
    However it doesn't plaster up quite well I have to plaster it up the second time to get it perfectly smooth
    I have little areas where I plastered up the big holes but the middle part is pushed in a bit which I can't fill up until it's dry

  • @WesTpaintninjagc
    @WesTpaintninjagc 11 лет назад

    i use a self adhesive paper tape (dip in water) and 5 minute quick set plaster. I can have a hole patched with 3 coats of plaster in 45 mins. Good weather its dry and ready to sand in about 2 hours. And you'll definately need to coat that at least twice to not see that repair, possibly 3 times.

  • @chiefmuppetmcgee3146
    @chiefmuppetmcgee3146 8 лет назад +1

    So much overkill for a small hole.
    Cut a square out of a new piece of plasterboard use this as a template to neaten up the hole.
    Place a length of scrap timber like a piece of skirting behind the hole (use 2 or more pieces if required)
    Make sure the timber overhangs the hole by at least 3 inches.
    Screw through the plasterboard fixing the timber to the back of the wall. Seat the new piece of plasterboard in the hole and fix to the timber.
    tape the edges and plaster. 2 hour job at max.
    Top tip use natural wood as its easier to screw in to, not ply or chipboard.

    How come when you apply the mixture it sticks to the wall, but when I apply it, it sticks to the tool? I end up having to make repeated passes, and even if it looks moderately (I'm overstating that word) OK, I find when I sand it that it contains air bubbles.

    • @AndrewGulickTrueVitalityPlus
      @AndrewGulickTrueVitalityPlus 8 лет назад +1

      It probably has something to do with the angle and pressure you are applying it. Also, I'm sure that there are different grades of tools from cheapest to more pricy tools. You don't have to buy the most expensive but you should ask your hardware store expert to give you some advice. take pictures of your work and see if he knows what you are doing.

    • @AndrewGulickTrueVitalityPlus
      @AndrewGulickTrueVitalityPlus 8 лет назад +1

      Also, I'm guessing that if there are air bubbles, you may be making it too thick (thinking thicker will save you time) when you need to take the time to put several thin layers on and let each dry before applying the next layer. ... I'm just guessing since I haven't seen what you are doing. Again, go to the hardware store and tell them what you are doing and they will give you suggestions.

    • @sylviaelse5086
      @sylviaelse5086 8 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the replies. This is not something I need to do often (which probably helps explain my lack of skill). Fortunately the job in question is high on a wall, and looks OK if you don't get a ladder out to insect it closely.

    I guess everyone has their own way.. I dont exactly disagree with using a back block but I would've deff screwed the block in.. Let alone the hole is damn near 16" already why not cut it to brake on each stud and do it rite.. New piece has no screws.. Yeah scrape off the bigger clumps but you should deff sand it the first time also so you dont have any runners. It won't crack instantly but give it a few weeks maybe months if, me personally, i use a primer instead of a finish coat of paint to see any imperfections..maybe not on something that small but hey like I said everyone has their own way, then theirs codes haha
