Really happy Modal is still around. With all the drama it is amazing to see a new synth finally here. Huge lover of your work - and also of Modal's synths, a proud owner of Cobalt and Argon. Thank you for amazing demo, as always.
My 2 cents: Modal Carbon8 First, a disclaimer: Modal asked me to be part of the sound design team for the Carbon8, so my opinion might be a bit biased. The video shows my contribution to the factory library-these presets come free with every unit. Like the other models in this series, the Carbon8 is solidly built and comes with a nice 37-key FATAR keyboard featuring velocity and aftertouch. Two independent oscillators with morphable waveforms, 18 sound-shaping algorithms-including phase distortion, cross-modulation (xmod), wave shaping, and much more-offer a plethora of sound design possibilities without even touching other elements of the synth. If that's not enough, you can further shape the sound with 34 high-quality resonant filter types, including both morphable and static filters. The reverb in the effects section sounds better than the one included in the Argon or Cobalt, but overall, I’d still recommend using external effects to get the most out of it. The biggest downside for me is still the somewhat limited modulation matrix. Eight slots are okay, but nothing to go crazy about. Tl;DR: The Carbon8 is, in my opinion, the best synthesizer currently available from Modal. It sounds a lot beefier than the Argon and Cobalt but still has that lush and mellow Modal character. The filter section sounds equally excellent, and the sound design options in the oscillator section are a world of their own. It might not be my first recommendation for beginners, but it certainly offers something special for synth veterans looking for a different flavor in their studio. ▶ Subscribe: ruclips.net/user/limbicbits Modal Carbon8 Sound Demo (no talking) ▶ Purchase Link Modal Carbon8* (EU / Thomann): www.thomann.de/intl/modal_carbon8.htm?offid=1&affid=397 ▶ Purchase Link Modal Carbon8* (USA / Perfect Circuit): link.perfectcircuit.com/t/v1/8-12626-260812-9759?sid=&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.perfectcircuit.com%2Fmodal-carbon8.html ▶ Purchase Link Modal Carbon8* (USA / Sweetwater): sweetwater.sjv.io/BnnWaJ ▶ Book "Electronic Music Production": limbicbits.com/book-electronic-music-production/ ▶ Online shop with Patch Banks for Ambient, Techno, IDM, and Electronica: limbicbits.com ▶ Follow me on Facebook: facebook.com/presetsforsynths/ ▶ Follow me on Instagram: instagram.com/limbicbits
Good to know Modal hired you for the sound design team. Your presets sound amazing as always. Just to make it crystal clear: Is the Carbon an hybrid VA-Wavetable synth?
It soes sound juicy. Even for people with, let's say, a Hydrasynth, Blofeld etc.., this still seems to bring a lot to the table. It almost (almost) sounds Novation Peak-y in some respects, which in my opinion is the granddaddy of them all. Nice to see Modal rising from the ashes and releasing this beast out in the wild though.
Sounds good, best demo so far. I might pick one up at the end of the year if it ever ships to my country to complete the cobalt8x/argon8m/carbon8m set. (Though I need to fix the USB port on my argon8m). :(
Great to see Modal back in the game. I had a Cobalt (37 key version, same form factor as the Cobalt in this video) which I liked but didn't love. If the Carbon8 has more character to it than the Cobalt, it might go on my list. FWIW I thought the Argon was a much better synth than the Cobalt and might yet buy one now that Modal are up and running again.
I like the Carbon8 a lot better than the other two (which is a matter of taste, of course), mainly because it sounds beefier. But imo all Modal units do have a particular sound character which is a good thing.
The first couple of sounds are better than the other half. Nicely controlled and not overpowering. For the other half, real analogue sounds more appropriate to me. Anyways, seems a bit like a sideways step-up from Minilogue XD.
Why oh why these microscopic screen. Lol. Charge me 100.00 more and invest in something bigger for a screen! Lol. Cool sounds. Reminds me hydra synth. A bit fatter and warmer on some sounds though.
@limbicbits i guess need to see it in person. I do have a hydrasynth w small screen. It's well laid out. But still, lol. Be nice if it was more on the scale of digitone or such.

Thanks much for posting -- very impressive, and I'm also glad to see Modal still in the game.
@@elka-nato It's much more than jsut VA / WT. It can do these tricks but it shines when it comes to waveshaping and phase distortion.
The first thing I did was Google the price, so you did a damn good job. Subscribed Dude.
Nice to see you being recognized for you wonderful sound design, and being hired to do factory patches :) Pretty cool.
Great Sounding Company. Welcome back
Nice sound and that Wumpscut reference was 🔥
LOVE your sound design (as usual) and more than a few times you've directly influenced purchases. The "futurepop bass" had me rolling.
I'm so happy about the Modal return! I have the Cobalt 5s,but the Carbon 8 sounds amazing, and you played it so good, subscribed 🤟🏻
Beautiful. First bit of gear I've insta bought in ages.
Sounds really great! You really put it through its paces, and showed the wide range of this sweet synth. Bravo!

Man this sounds great. Awesome video
always intriguing stuff from Modal.................great upload

I own the Argon8 and I really like it. I'm seriously considering the desktop version of this synth.
Wow, love it.
And great work on presets they are beautiful
Thank you! Enjoy just hearing the gear sometimes.👍

Seems like it was a difficult birth from announcement date to shipping, but the sound is pretty amazing.
Sounds really good. I know it's just a sound demo but how is the build quality?
Build quality is like the other Modal synths from that series - solid

I could work with the screen quite well (and I don't have the best sight).
@limbicbits i guess need to see it in person. I do have a hydrasynth w small screen. It's well laid out. But still, lol. Be nice if it was more on the scale of digitone or such.
I don't like the sound. So cooooold !
Good to have a sonic antagonist in the mix
