Great project! My only critique would have been recess the magnets, otherwise you do loss some cutting height. Since the magnets are at least 1/4 to 3/8 in in height.
Great job Jack. That's a really good poor man's scroll/band saw. It's an easy design that can be done with just a jigsaw and a drill. Thanks for sharing and God bless
Thank you so much for this video, other people have made videos that are so complex and complicated to follow. Your video is easy for an amateur like me to follow, LOVE the magnets.
I have build such a table in the 80s. But your fixing of the saw with this magnets is cleverer. I have to look for a used one jigsaw, to build a new table for cutting metall. Good work and inspiration!
Enjoyed the video, very clear instructions. I made one myself but made it universal as I recently bought the Rockler Trim Router Table and can mount that on the box when not using the jigsaw. I used battens underneath both tables and thumb screws to secure to the box. I did try to recess the magnets, however, even with my smallest screws they started coming through the plywood, I was using 11mm ply. Because of that when removing the jigsaw the magnets came away from the base! A relocation of the magnets solved the problem!
I know these things are very popular now but I'm still not crazy about these inverted jigsaws. Oh well... Either way your vids are always a treat and an education Jack. Thanks so much for taking the time!
Why don't you like them? I just ask because my experience is that the inverted table makes the jigsaw a much more precise tool. While they are rough to use vs. a bandsaw or a scrollsaw, they are also far cheaper and more accessible.
I always enjoy seeing your wood working videos since I am a novice in wood working. The main attraction of your presentation is very simple one to follow. I was scratching my head on how to use the jig saw lying with me; after this video I will try to use it as you have shown. Will you please help me on how to add the details on making a blade guide for it with bearings. Thanks for your video.
Excellent ! Looks great. Now all we need is a rip fence and a cross cut sled and circle jig and a box joint jig and some dust extraction and a... and a... ;-)
I one of these like a small table saw 24" x 24" and I love it it's just right for a lot o small jobs to dangerous on the table saw. I hate scroll saws with a passion I highly recommend this build . Mine is on its own stand and has a 3/4" angle rail
What a brilliant idea! Perhaps it is time to add a t track and fence. In some sense it will perfect for the woodwork beginners, as it is much safer than a table saw. Virtually no dangerous kick back and much cheaper than a table saw.
Howdy Jack. I just found your video 4 years later! Anyway, it's really great. I'm a terrible carpenter but may try this. Could you please give a little more specific info on the Lee Valley magnets? I want to be sure to get the right ones. Thank you in advance if you can do that, and thanks again for taking the time to make a really great video.
Excellent work, as usual Jack! BTW: Is there a chance, in the future, to build an upper guide for the blade? The kind with bearings, you probably know what I mean.
Thanks for sharing your video and thoughts. I have been thinking about making something similar to this. Appreciate your advice and experience ! I just discovered your channel and have subscribed to it. Looking forward to watching more your videos !
This is very clever, with thanks. I was thinking how I might make this using a thin, composite material so that the jigsaw blade doesn't lose so much potential height. And then you added magnets! Now I'm wondering how they might be completely embedded into the base so that no further distance is lost in the reach of the blade.
Great idea, I really like this! It would be be a useful addition for anyone with a small workspace or on a limited budget. Have you considered adding a miter slot? Make it much easier to control and allow for cutting, well, miters. (Also: if you recess the magnets you get a bit more cutting capacity)
Thought it was for the pocket not the wall. I can't imagine having that thing in my pocket. Shop apron pocket maybe. Shirt or pants pocket, no way! What do you do if your circle requires less than a half or full revolution?
I don't want to be insensitive, but I have been wondering this for a while; Why are his fingers curved like that? Love the idea by the way, Great job as always.
Simple and effecient, I like it. But I cannot shake off the Idea of cutting fingers off accidentally; I once did cut myself with jigsaw and I have a small child now, and those two factors combined make me sweat bullets. Is there any way to make this safer?
Great project! My only critique would have been recess the magnets, otherwise you do loss some cutting height. Since the magnets are at least 1/4 to 3/8 in in height.
Countersink the magnets in the base?
Brilliant as usual. I guess a speed square clamped on would make a nice quick fence for this too. Thanks again Jack

Always a pleasure watching you present your ideas.
Great idea + love the magnet trick.
Love it, especially how you help make a simple tool do so much more. Thank you!
Another fine project Jack. The use of the magnets was ingenious.
Very nice build Jack! Like the magnet gloss! Congrats!

Great addition to your shop Jack! As always, very cleaver
Great idea! Especially with release and installation, love magnets!
Good job Jack, you go man!
Awesome job Jack this could be used in many applications very handy in the shop
I love this idea! Great for hobbyists who don't have a band saw. 😊
Very clever jack! Well done for coming back :)

Very helpful but do you need the magnets
Excellent ! Looks great. Now all we need is a rip fence and a cross cut sled and circle jig and a box joint jig and some dust extraction and a... and a... ;-)

Great video Jack! Awesome idea!
Buen trabajo amigo, te quedó genial. Saludos.
Very clever idea. Thanks for sharing.
Excelente trabajo amigo Saludos desde Argentina 👍
What a great idea. We are about to install flooring (long pieces with complicated end cuts) this would be perfect for that, thanks!
That is so cool! Very useful too. Thanks for sharing this great project.

Perfect idea!
Very nice. I’ll be building it this week. Maybe a blade guide in the near future.
Good build Jack! Simple & effective..................... :)
Nice work my friend!
Magnets!!! Brilliant.
Wow!!! I really like it . You did nice jop . 👍👍👍👍👍
You are great!
Thank you very much.
Bon travail jack!

Called Cup Magnets. Search for them on Google. Or ask your local Hardware store.
Great job jack, one question though, is the jigsaw sits on the magnets? If so, wouldn’t that shorten the protruded part of the blade?
Excellent work, as usual Jack!
BTW: Is there a chance, in the future, to build an upper guide for the blade? The kind with bearings, you probably know what I mean.
I know what you mean, I will have to think about it.
@@Jacka440 you can use drawer slides.... runners....
What a great ideal
thank you. nice.

Thanks for sharing. I like the box idea but what are you going to do about blade drift?
Love vídeo

In my experience, jigsaws don't work very with a fence or mitre gauge because the blade cuts off line.
Purdy cool
Great video! Is there a video on a 45 degrees cut with the jigsaw? Maybe a 45 degrees changable plate?
Thanks
Thanks.
Now that I've seen the video, which I love, my only question is, what's in the plastic canister?
That's cute.
Hey plz make one combinationplane man with wood
2 thumbs up
Nice... where to buy the cup magnets online?
А скажите пожалуйста,какой вы лобзик использовали в этом ролике(Марка,модель)?
great buddy...did you get the 90lb 1.26" magnets? also...you could add a rip fence too hahaha awesome
What should be the magnet measurements?
Nice job what type of magnets and where can you buy them how strong are they can you please tell me where I can buy and what kind what size thank you
In the video he said he got them at Lee Valley. These look like them www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=58750&cat=1,42363,42348
1" cupped magnets from Lee Valley.

hi, how much did you pay for your magnets
You can specify the dimensions of the magnet ? Where to buy such a magnet in Europe ?
Counter sunk magnets from Amazon. Check your jigsaw plate for the maximum room for the magnets
Where in Canada are you, I am in Essex country
Vancouver, British columbia.
I don't want to be insensitive, but I have been wondering this for a while; Why are his fingers curved like that?

why you put 4 bearings under the saw ?
because they are not
They are the magnets.
