Congratulations to the Patchogue-Medford Public Library and the entire community of Medford on the grand opening of the new Medford Branch!
In 2020, the Patchogue-Medford Public Library partnered with H2M to provide comprehensive design services for the Medford Branch. This new facility, at only about 5,500 square feet, was designed to include many typical functions of a public library within a compact space. H2M’s plan included a flexible community meeting space, children’s area, young adult stacks, adult section, study room, staff office, and a dedicated reading area complete with a fireplace. The library also features a series of work stations equipped with comfortable seating, power connections, an outdoor view, and acoustical fabric frames to provide “work from home” setups for those looking for a quaint, quiet setting to get work done.
One of the main highlights of this new annex is the outdoor program space. Designed as an open patio, this flexible space can serve as a casual reading area or space to host events such as music and movie nights, meetings, and play and exercise activities. Benches, access to power, a direct connection to the indoor reading area, and beautiful new landscaping make this a functional, attractive space for patrons.
H2M also designed a lower level to accommodate the potential future growth of the Medford Branch. This level, while unfinished, features mechanical and sanitary systems properly sized to meet the needs of a larger future population, as well as designated space for toilet rooms to simplify future installation.
It was an honor for us to play a role in such a valuable community project. We are grateful for the tremendous community response to the Medford Branch thus far, and we hope that the residents of Medford continue to enjoy all of the amenities of the Patchogue-Medford Public Library for decades to come!
