After being so frustrated with the same problem, I stumbled into this video and have now watched it at least 20 times in the last 3 days. This video is so much more than DIY. This has added a whole new level of perspective & gratitude to my view of the world & my fellowmen. God bless you Chris!!!

Thank you so much ... I hope the beeping from your own isn't what is keeping you awake. In solidarity with you as my spouse is sleeping too! :)

When these smoke detectors were put in they should have run the wires down the wall to a battery compartment so people could open a face plate and replace with a new battery. How hard would that have been???

That is the best comment I have ever read on this. As it is now, it is downright dangerous!

I love this video. How do the smoke detector companies think we are supposed to do maintenance on these devices. The manufacturers should all be lined up and shot. (figuratively) Also, why can't they figure out a way to easily detect which smoke detector is chirping. I have one in each bedroom and one in the hallway joining the rooms. Its almost impossible to tell which one needs changing so we end up changing them all anyway. What a pain.

Well thanks so much ... you made my day. Yes -- seems like they'd at least invent one with a cord that hangs down and battery at the bottom. :(

For entertainment value alone, this video is awesome. "You will see later why I need the hat". No, we didn't, but we have ceased our questions and just marvel at it. Points for the Christmas tree that didn't faint.

LOL -- that is so nice of you to say. Also, I hope it helped you change that battery! ☺☺☺

This won't work. The wiring attaches to the smoke detector with a latched socket. You have to use a small screwdriver to hold the latch open while you remove the plug. That takes two hands, sorry. Did you use a different method eventually? Or did you just give up and eat your black hat?

The guy who made the video was making one about rewiring a light socket and he now is out of commission for a while, but I will pass this on. Thanks for the kind words in all seriousness. :)

All I can say is this video is good only for the BLIND who need to change out the battery in the smoke detector located high on a vaulted ceiling. Did you not edit the video? Can you see the video is not pointed at the subject detector? We are all somewhat stupider for watching this "snare the detector" video!

My guy Kenny was off that day so not up to our usual standards but still hope you were able to get the smoke detector down low enough to replace the battery.

Very frustrating to view since you didn't have someone help you tune the camera to what you were doing!

The reason that there are only 30 comments on a 1200 view video instead of at least 10%(120-200) is that they all either:
    1. Tried to un-alive themselves in 500% total frustration
    2. Checked themselves into a mental hospital
    3. Sold the house for $1 and moved to Antarctica
    4. Couldn’t comment because they threw their phone/computer AT the smoke detector
    5. Jumped in the car to run to the courthouse to file a suit for mental anguish against the person that wrote that code requirement AND you

Is this supposed to be a comic video?

    • @Philosophy42DaysUth
      @Philosophy42DaysUth  11 месяцев назад +1

When I did the video, I was trying to make everything work but it didn't go exactly as planned and, yes, some have found humor in that. However, I get many responses from people who have successfully ensnared their smoke detector using my noose trick, so it wasn't a total flop on that end.

They need to have a way you can lower the thing. Maybe they will eventually have a robotic one that will climb down the wall. For now, this is the best fix we have. :(
