- “It’s been a bumpy road, but I try to keep my thoughts positive.” Terence, 22, lives in a Toronto homeless shelter. He uses a camera phone to share his life and plans for the future.
This short film is part of a series called Red Button, a revolutionary approach to storytelling where doc subjects become filmmakers. Participants were given camera phones, audio and video gear to film themselves and document their everyday lives.

loved the point max made: “you’re not worth my freedom”.
He's so talented I wish him the best things I'n life
I believe in this guy. I went through the same depression he went through. It's really tough and not having the skills to live life good as others. I had to get help from others to get out from a shelter.
This guy's music sounds like those musicians who become very rich.
Good musical talent there, guy. Don't be shy! You seem like a great guy with lots of potential.
Agreed.
His song slapped ngl one of the best I’ve heard in a while he has real talent
My brother Terence keep it up brother 🙏 💯
Your still young and strong. It's never too late to get yourself together brother, don't give up.
I had a very similar experience to his when I was a teenager I refused to work I associated with a bad crowd of people use to sell weed instead of get a job and do nothing productive all day eventually parents kicked me out and went to a youth shelter for awhile and honestly it was the push I needed it helped build character through struggle . I spent a few months living at a shelter came back home for a bit screwed it up ended up at another shelter thos time I got sick of my lifestyle and just wanted something things in life like being able to have my own place and not have to share a room with random kids or being able to have my own car to drive places. So I reached out to a counselor about jobs at first I was in welfare to cover my rent I ended up getting a under the table job through a job connect started working a bunch and only use the o.w money I had coming in and eventually within 3 months I was caught up and finally able to be comfy knowing I'm not in the struggle no more tripping over the little things like food or not having a roof under my head . Help is out there even though it may not seem like it yoy gotta take whatever you can if your in a situation like that it may suck but you gotta look at the bigger picture not just living day to day sacrifices have to be made just know it will pay off in the end and you will enjoy it more cuz u struggled and know what it's like living like that so it just makes it better. Another thing is you gotta be the one to make these choices nobody can force you to do anything if you dont want it ! Hope this helps anyone going thru the struggle..🙏
God bless Terrance. He will have a great future I see so much potential in him ❤️
He’s got talent... your up next Cronem stay strong ✊🏾
That is a very wise comment when you suffer from anxiety and or depression; Just to be happy everyday! Not easy.....God Bless Terence....I enjoyed your music! Hope you are going to well known one day...🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️
That's a good track, Terence. You should try to perform it locally, and if music makes you happy it will help with your anxiety.
Very strong and courageous. Also talented @ music.
Terrence, YOU can do it! Be positive, thrive and focus on what you really like.
Hes actually not bad musician. Nice!!
You got this man keep livin every day alive is a step forward
I was in your position a year ago , for an entire year homie! I’m the same age! It was very hard, a lot of drugs and violence, but it’s literally the “streets” so it is what it is. As much as people hate on income support bro (temporary of course) you should probably apply and also visit the housing programs that house you and help you get back on your feet and also set you up with work or even continuation of school !
You’ll be okay bro! Just don’t get on the drugs.. Obvs kush is all good and drinks here and there.. I hope you learn how to manage and find a solution over time to deal with your stress and anxiety!!
However this is like over a year old I see, and I’m sure your not at the shelter no more hopefully, but if luck hasn’t come your way yet it’s okay, cause it will. I’m not religious but if you are then pray and visualize your success!
Cheers homie!
Really nice message, it spoke to me as well , thanks 😊
This dude got fire music
I have anxiety so I know what this young man is going through.
A lot of anxiety is normal when we live in a sick society. You maybe an empath also. Stay strong. You're not alone.
Same
It's good to have goals, but don't focus on them. Focus on the process, on what you can do today to be the person you want to be.
sachamm totally agree life is a journey and every day make each step for the success you want in the future
Getting beat up emotionally is a sad part of our youths up bringing in Ontario
Your gonna make it you got this !!!!
blesss up thank you for all the wishesss stay safe
I was exactly where he is, back in 1989, 30 years ago , homeless youth shelter in Toronto, I remember it like it was 5 years ago, some of the worst times in my life ,I was 16 years old , stayed at covenant house, life's nothing like it now
I spent a lot of time growing up at the covenant house about 10 years ago…
I really like this guy. Keep your head up bro. You will make it.
-Tony from London On.
I know him personally. He’s a good kid. Had lots of talent but didn’t get the spotlight he needed. Hopefully now is his chance.
From ashes to classy!
Yo man this is great...when i was 12 i left home n this was first shelter i ever stayed at...
I liked your music man, keep up
His story sounds word for word like mine..
Hang in there buddy.
Your music is really good! Keep your head up.
i remember staying here. apart from the rooms....this is actually a good shelter to be at.
I hope Terence is doing well!
You r lucky...u've Got place to Stay...Stay Away from the STREETS...be Safe...Yoo...bro..
I feel u bro definently I would like to talk to u if u see this I just wanna say that stay strong brother keep ur head up bro
People don’t realize just how hard it is for those of us on the streets and I’m homeless right now but all I ever hear is “just go to a shelter”. Ya? “Just go”?
I always tell those people that if they can find a shelter I haven’t called (which is nearly impossible as I’ve called every shelter I can physically get to) that had a bed for me, I’ll go!
I’ll get through dis
Less you worry about others the farther you are ahead you do you an find your inner place an show it to others that is you an that's what ppl want to see
Looking to possibly contact Terence regarding a presentation for a local high school. Anyone know how to reach him? Or in case you're watching Terence, please message me!
Emily Carreiro hello
Look up toopy Baker on Facebook
Blap blap keep going fam. Big up 🚨🚨
When i was staying there it was only 2 beds per room. Its so so terrible that homelessness is on the rise in Toronto.
Homelessness is definitely on the rise in Toronto…
🙌🏾🙏🏾
stay fresh it will boost confidence
Your not worth my freedom 🙌 wise words right there
Anxiety is just part of humans in general. While anxiety is not a good feeling it has its causes and finding its cause and trying to deal with it could relieve some of it.
on the plus side ..his video has alot of views..i hope he is in a better position now . if not then i guess someone is.
What is his last name to look up his music :)?
the shelter I was in in NYC makes this place look like the Marriott lmaooooo
Same with the one in phoenix
Learn a trade, get on with a good company and prove u rself & get an apprenticeship outta them, that's u r ticket to being successful
What he said hes going through definitley went right past your head
@@jaybino3918 look up sympathy in the dictionary, its between sh** & syphilis
Time to demand better from your government. You should be able to buy a home on full-time work wage...expecting that you would need to save for a deposit first. However depression and anxiety are awful. Work can alleviate this though...or make it worse depending on the supports you get from that work.
Get an arduino asap
go help Anthony rebuild his camp homeless Toronto channel, the video with a million views is where he responds to
Satan house or good sheppard did 7 seven years on the street and came out okay I was a Lucky 1 a lot come out BURNT OUT WITH MENTAL PROBLEMS 😔 I AM PRAYING FOR YOU & OTHERS IN THIS POSITION! 😊📿❤💔🤜💥🤛🙏🤝
My social worker didn’t let me stay at seaton house it was very bad…
Dear CBC - do not block comments on ANY of ur articles - ITS A SHAME. Good , the bad, lets hear it all [offensive comments? - we people have brains , dont we??]
he should work on actually rapping and writing first instead of trying to get all the gang signs and dances down
22 And still considered a youth . There's the problem with this
This dude seems quite capable to stop being so lazy and get a job to get himself out of this.
Time to be a big boy Terence
Anxiety and depression are tough, I've had to take time off my full-time job in order to keep my sanity so its not a matter of being a big boy or not
Not easy when struggling with mental illness…
If only there were more mediocre rapper jobs out there
Sorry but rapping ain't gona pay the rent . Reality strike
Illegal from the USA?
His definitely a toronto native from his accent
After hearing him Rap I see why his mom kicked him out and why he is now Homeless
Lmao get a job then maybe your carrier might go somewhere
