I'm autistic and schizophrenic. This movie feels oddly real. I'm sure if mobile phones existed when I grew up, this movie would sum up my constant fear. And Scary Larry sounds like a nickname given to a child predator
How to beat Larry: - Just let him take the kid! The parents could be happy and Live a normal life again; they could have a normal kid; Oliver will not be alone and Larry will have his New friend....

I believe they filmed this near Pittsburgh. So you would have to head for the Laurel Highlands. Plenty of places there without reception and tons of wooded areas.
Like, the woman in Babadook at least had the "excuse" of being heavily in grief and mentally ill and blatantly needed psychological care herself, not to mention her gremlin was about a million times worse than a nonverbal autist like this one.

Also Larry seemed like some ones weird uncle that wants to help someone so from now I’m gonna call Larry uncle Larry and I found it really funny how Larry put a yellow sponge on the bed he’s like you like yellow sponges? Well here you can have one of my collection
My son is non-verbal autistic, and I was calling Sarah all types of names right along with Marty because Autistic children are awesome and they have a high tolerance for pain, so when they're upset or cry it's because something bad or someone bad, is bothering them? No lie, my son waves his arms happily but if he senses some crappy person around he'll stand next to me with his arms across his chest? He's such a sweetheart!

Wait is it definitely not actually the mom at the end? I thought it was supposed to be her and she just also lives in Larry's world with him and can only come out sometimes like Larry can
As someone with ASD, I appreciate the respect @Nerd Explains gives the condition. And yes, furry pets are wonders, for ASD and in general. Before other people mention it, I am only speaking to my feelings and they are likely to differ from, you know, ALL people on the spectrum (obviously) (sarcasm tag but in good humor).
As someone on the spectrum, I always wonder why do they never show non-verbal autistics knowing or learning sign-language. Also, why isn't Oliver's IEP teacher or therapist a character in this film? I am pretty sure the writers never spent much time or did much research in autistic care out side of applied behavioral analysis which is horrible in helping those on the spectrum do anything outside of masking
@@kaiseremotion854no they didn’t consider that at all. These movies don’t actually research this stuff all they care about is using the disorder to create an obstacle
@@kaiseremotion854 That is how it should be; however, the characterization of Oliver is what I was talking about. I very well could be wrong, but the actor playing Oliver is very likely not on the spectrum, and the directing isn't helping. The story feels like a mute boy whose parents refused to allow him to communicate without tech but demand he acts like everyone else. The fact Oliver is autistic feels like it is a lazy plot device more than a real part of a character.
Autistic aswell, i get it to a certain degree, people find working with autistic kids difficult, i kind of understand? like as a kid i had a hard time emoting- my mom always yelled at me for having a permanant resting bitch face and a very monotone voice. But people more often characterize autistic kids as a very- emotional side of the spectrum in my expierence or they make them a super genius nothing in-between
Okay, as a late diagnosed, low support/needs autistic/ADHD adult, my two main thoughts as I come back to comment after overthinking this plot: 1. Not to be all "The real monsters are the Parents" but really, they've failed if their nine year old feels more safe with the weird electricity monster by any amount than with them. I know that some people genuinely cannot handle a disabled child to care for in the real world, as we all have different thresholds, but these two seemed to do NO research or attempts to understand the nonverbal autism diagnosis and made their son feel worse and burdensome to them that he'd rather go with Larry. Good job, mom and dad! /s That being said... 2. Really fucking ableist of Larry to target a vulnerable autistic child because he's on his phone or an ipad, being those are his main forms to communicate and possibly ways for him to self regulate, if he [Larry] is the embodiment of loneliness and being "screen addicted" makes you a target. As a person on the spectrum, even if I am verbal/an adult with some ways to cope, my main way to regulate myself is via listening to music on my phone, while I get other things done, so I don't go into a meltdown. Larry, you suck. Larry should've went after mom from the get-go, because that bitch was too busy yelling at her high support/needs child who literally cannot communicate verbally and she's probably doing Candy Crush on the side. Just nab her and leave. (and yes, I know, children are more vulnerable and trusting, but wow Larry, rude af-)
Im pretty sure Larry stated that he only exists because of people being absorbed on their phones. His reason for targeting the kid was because he was misunderstood like Larry or so the creepy monster said. Calling an extra-dimensional monster ableist because you think it went after some kid because he is vulnerable to it due to his disability is hilarious in the kind of way that makes me just sit here and say really? Thatd be like me getting mad at a ravenous bear for choosing to attack a guy in a wheelchair over someone that can run. It only makes logical sense. Grab the most vulnerable fruit. Your not going to climb a tree to grab a ripe piece of fruit if there are lower hanging ones. Even if Larry were targeting the kid because of him using screens because hes autistic doesn't necessarily make it ableist either. Which I believe isnt the reason because in larrys interaction with the kid he says that they were alike. That they were both misunderstood. Larry even goes as far to say that there is nothing wrong with the Autistic kid just because he is different. That he liked him just the way he was so hardly ableist. Yeah the parents were a real piece of work, but thats horror movie logic for you. They have to put the characters in such unbelievably easily avoided scenarios for the plot to simply exist. If the parents were even the least bit concerned for their kid none of this would have happened in the first place.
Ableist? Are you-? You're shitting me. Dude, Larry literally explains (as in, he explains it in literature) that he targets kids that are extremely lonely and isolated, and he targets them through screens. It has nothing to do with Oliver's autism, and everything to do with Oliver having two parents that don't try to understand him and are desperate for him to be "normal". Hell, the mom literally stopped Oliver from having friends!
I liked this video a lot more than some of the recent ones. The editing was really clean and not overwhelming. Other videos just had so many cuts to random things that made sense with a word that was said, but really made it hard to pay attention. Definitely enjoying the change in pace
Have to comment as a verbal autistic individual here - learning how to "talk properly" is a LOT MORE FREAKING COMPLEX than the "Nerd Explains" narrator is saying, otherwise, "Speech Therapy" wouldn't exist for the folks with Autism that can actually speak and other people that have trouble with other developmental issues. Just "learning by parental example" often doesn't work, without other therapy, classes, and/or Special Education. If that issue did work that way, almost any kid with a developmental disability would be able to speak. One personal common issue - young kids (and non-verbal folks) often have, to annoying, deal with is spelling issues vs. pronounation issues. One common issue I'd have was confusing my lowercase "b"s with "d"s and vice-versa. This means I could read the word but either write and/or say many English words improperly. And that wasn't even the only problem - some words I'd hear and just end up saying improperly without thinking about it, while others I could say properly but be unable to spell them correctly. (Note: I say college rather than university most of the time because I literally still have to look up how I spell university but don't have to do that for the word college. Keep in mind that I have a college degree as an adult yet still have come spelling issues). Ironically, it seems like Larry is a better person than either of the kid's literal parents because he tries to be a nice guy and listen to his "friend", even if he's failing by human standards. The kid's parents seem like the ones I'd expect to see at an "Autism Speaks" meeting because they can't accept their kid's issues.
You should do the Babadook next. I find horror like this fascinating. It reminds me of the Man in the Window or whatever the game with the big titty rabbit mom is
One strategy i can think of would be if larry only comes out when you finish the book if you were to take one ipad and leave everything else at home and then go to a open filed and read the story and as soon as you have finished you throw the ipad as a frisbee and run like hell that should work. Or you can take a boat out to a lake or some other body of water and yeet the ipad and for less risk just use a wooden boat with a motor in the back that you move manually

My little bro is nonverbal autistic. I appreciate you explaining things like stemming to people that aren't aware what it is. I could never sit through this movie long because they really are awful parents to the kid. I've had too many experiences of people irl being awful to my brother and demanding he "be normal".
Essentially we can beat this thing if we just go on a no screens camping trip for a week!
Someone grab the mushrooms and it’ll be a good time off the grid.
@@pegetayou must of missed the part where Larry has a limited amount of time before he disappears

@@clownrat5759 yea bro imagine taking mushrooms then being in an altered state of mind going near electronics. Bet encountering Larry while tripping on a mushrooms would make for quite the trip.
@@ByzantineRefugee that’s why it’s a “no screens” camping trip
I'm autistic and schizophrenic. This movie feels oddly real. I'm sure if mobile phones existed when I grew up, this movie would sum up my constant fear. And Scary Larry sounds like a nickname given to a child predator
Been watching you for 2 years you’re doing nice
How to beat Larry:
- Just let him take the kid! The parents could be happy and Live a normal life again; they could have a normal kid; Oliver will not be alone and Larry will have his New friend....
this movie made me so sad that my brother won’t ever be able to communicate what he is thinking
Larry might actually be a misunderstood monster, as there is not anything shown that deviates from the story, but he still is scary.
My first thought was, "lets go camping, for a few weeks to months."
If I don't want to die, I'd rather lose my job.
Great video, thanks for the effort.
for a guy who wants people to read his story its pretty counter productive to kill/disturb the people who even try to read it
you managed to make an ALMOST 23 minutes of a movie recap into a rhyming pattern and very nice, normal lyrics or script i guess in this instance. i don’t know how you managed to do it but for speaking, you made it just almost into fall asleep for me the first and everytime i’ve heard it too. i have to keep fighting to get through it. you did a great job. are there any other videos that are done in this same way? because i’ve watched a lot of them but not all of them
Imagine Scary Larry vs The Grimcutty. lol. Also Brightburn has laser eyes which is extremely obvious and the increased strength, this is more like 11s telekinesis.
Thank goodness. Newer sub here. Just finished most of your backlog

I'm probably gonna die just laughing at Scary Larry's name alone.
Let alone actually hurt him
Half of my movie playlist comes from these videos lol
I believe they filmed this near Pittsburgh. So you would have to head for the Laurel Highlands. Plenty of places there without reception and tons of wooded areas.
I really enjoy your videos you're my favorite movie channel and thank you for making these videos they make my day❤
i know what you mean
Larry was really just a homie the whole tome
Mom of the year. Dad of the year. Congratulations!🍾🎈🎉
"Dress rehearsal of the Conjuring musical"
Another wonderful upload
As a person named oliver who is autistic i can confirm a inter dimensional demon from my phone is my friend
Oh no, you downloaded replika
These vids are super entertaining, short and simple. Thank you
What stopping Oliver from simply WRITING DOWN what he's seeing??
Oliver doesn't need a Electronic Device for that, just a Pen/Pencil and some paper.
It depends on what specific level he’s at. He may not be able to explain in full words what’s happening
I love that line “kids don’t communicate with people who don’t listen” lol😂
Amish community? On the other hand, with those parents, maybe Larry would be a better guardian. At least he never yelled, 'be normal.'
Like, the woman in Babadook at least had the "excuse" of being heavily in grief and mentally ill and blatantly needed psychological care herself, not to mention her gremlin was about a million times worse than a nonverbal autist like this one.
Would still love a how to survive the crazy family in house of a thousand corpses
Larry please teach me how to traumatize children. Also Larry seemed like some ones weird uncle that wants to help someone so from now I’m gonna call Larry uncle Larry and I found it really funny how Larry put a yellow sponge on the bed he’s like you like yellow sponges? Well here you can have one of my collection
I really enjoy your videos. I learned a lot from them, though i hope never to be in a situation like that
My son is non-verbal autistic, and I was calling Sarah all types of names right along with Marty because Autistic children are awesome and they have a high tolerance for pain, so when they're upset or cry it's because something bad or someone bad, is bothering them? No lie, my son waves his arms happily but if he senses some crappy person around he'll stand next to me with his arms across his chest? He's such a sweetheart!
Wait…is it really Larry posing as the mother in the end!??
No one knows
Larry is Buffalo Bill
me when watching it: okay, but at least he was nice enough to lay everything you needed to know out in a book. It's not Larry's fault you can't read a pamphlet, he even made it child friendly."
Did you just say a "windigo xenomorph"?😂 Now that's all I can think about and need art of
Yup 😂.
gotta do talk to me next

Coulda sworn I saw a teen titans go episode about this

How to beat scary larry: t o u c h g r a s s
Hands down best 'moral of the story' bit yet
I think that's the point? the mother wants him "normal"
@@notthefbi7015 Thanks for understanding. I want more autistic characters, but not if they aren't going to put any real effort in it.
Autistic aswell, i get it to a certain degree, people find working with autistic kids difficult, i kind of understand? like as a kid i had a hard time emoting- my mom always yelled at me for having a permanant resting bitch face and a very monotone voice. But people more often characterize autistic kids as a very- emotional side of the spectrum in my expierence or they make them a super genius nothing in-between
Okay, as a late diagnosed, low support/needs autistic/ADHD adult, my two main thoughts as I come back to comment after overthinking this plot:
@Breelik I mean, I know xD I'm just joking and not taking this plot truly to heart, just overthinking it and feeling bad for the kid
Ableist?
Love you videos!

Moral of the Story: Must love ❤️ Dogs 🐶
I liked this video a lot more than some of the recent ones. The editing was really clean and not overwhelming. Other videos just had so many cuts to random things that made sense with a word that was said, but really made it hard to pay attention. Definitely enjoying the change in pace
He would probably be better off with Larry. Atleast Larry seems to care about him.
I need a how to beat the evil scientist in They cloned Tyrone video 😅
This is just the Babadook with even worse parenting.
I thought you said the boondocks I was so confused lmao
It reminds me of the Man in the Window or whatever the game with the big titty rabbit mom is
Larry can be explained by "Because you always on that damn phone!"
Solution to beating Larry: PUTTING DOWN THE DAMN PHONE AND GOING OUTSIDE TO EXPERIENCE THE REAL WORLD.
Would you ever do a How To Beat the Babadook? Your videos are awesome! 0:35

Crazy idea. One person reads the first half. One person reads the second half. Nobody reads both. They pool their information without reciting lines from the story.
Movie producers should sign you up to do their advertising for all these movies. You make them sound good but unfortunatly most are awful 😂 You have given me a few hidden gems but, which is why I check the ones I haven't seen yet out after you do a video on them.
Hey, please do a video on how to beat the show “Black Summer” zombies. The first season, please
So it's Babadook without the book and a digital one instead?
Glad I watch these videos so I don't have to waste time on rehashed films.
Could you please do a “how to beat” video on a movie called “attraction” or it’s second part? It has cool alien water benders and giant space ships capable of deep faking , controlling mass media and framing people for domestic terrorism. And it has a cool revolution and a government corruption scheme.(It also has a cool underwater scene).I am asking for the sixty fifth time and will continue asking.
