The HMCR runs as-needed. It seems Wednesday and Monday tend to be days one can somewhat reliably catch them though. They usually get on duty in the morning.
Nice Video and I had never seen the Huntsville Madison County Railroad HMCR before until I went back to Huntsville last Tuesday while visiting the U.S. Space and Rocket Center I took some pictures of HMCR Locomotive# 9554.
i just noticed... on bob wallace ave the vsignal your closest too the top lights have a upside down mi junction box. i think thats what they are called
Dildo Marina Parkway? Might want to re-read that. Also, the line runs from the NS in downtown Huntsville (just north of Holmes Avenue) to Hobbs Island Road in Hobbs Island.
I wonder why newer railroad crossing lights tend to fade then come back rally bright. Living near a Union Pacific line they keep the crossings well intact especially the lights. Not all videos I watch have fading lights in them. I just wonder why. Can anyone tell me? They fade in and out the new ones. Some but not all.
Yes. At least as of right now for 12 inch ones. Not sure what the new signal at Lily Flagg Road will have, but it might have WCH 2nd Gen LEDs. However, Holmes Avenue #2 (at the beginning) has one 8 inch WCH 2nd Generation LED at it on the far signal.
The railroad feels that it'd put too much liability on the railroad, and with them only seeing two trains a day on the days that they run (one down, one up), the railroad probably doesn't feel that they need any gates anyways.
Ethan the Railfanner they probably don’t have gates because if you notice that most of the crossings are under power lines which in that case gates and power lines make no good mix unless you like rolling blackouts every time there is a train.
I'm assuming HMCR is cash strapped, their tracks, locomotives, crossings and signals are all poorly maintain. Btw, you have the best crossing videos. All of them are unique...
Thanks! Just uploaded another one of these. The HMCR has a number of old L&N signals left along it, though, as you can see, most of these are newer signals.
Drake and governors drive is like having the wires tangled up to the signals. So, what if a car crashes on it, and does shut out power in all huntsville?
12:06 why did the crossing on the right have LED lights? The one on the left is just old lights.
There's only one crossing there.
Do you happen to know when this job runs? I’m from MI, and I’m trying to maybe come down sometime in the future to see this job.

Why does hmcr 3986 have a ns paint job
It's a former NS unit.
@@freebrickproductions what horn was it using

Great Video! I liked the bell at Lily Flagg Rd.

On the side of the relay case on the right.
+freebrickproductions hey did you get all of the crossing?

frankpierce2008 All of the crossing of what?
+freebrickproductions the one with the traffic lights controlling the traffic and train
So they line starts at Holmes Avenue to Ditto Marina Parkway?

@@freebrickproductions Lol sorry, my phone doesn't recognized "Ditto" and put it as "Dildo", and okay.

That's due to the LEDs messing with the camera's frame rate.
freebrickproductions thanks for telling me I've been wanting to know why thanks!!!
WTF how old do you think this line it looks like it's over 50 years old
This line was built back in 1877 by the NC&StL.
Wow so cool but sadly I live in the north east of the us in Washington :(
tbh i realize that theres powerlines on a bunch of these but I think whitesburg and blanda drive, drake avenue and governors drive really need gates
1:50 horn?
is eagletree lane crossing the only crossing on the hmcr that has wch 2nd gn LEDS

freebrickproductions will u do a lily Flagg road update?
Any reason why the hmcr has no gated crossings
The railroad feels that it'd put too much liability on the railroad, and with them only seeing two trains a day on the days that they run (one down, one up), the railroad probably doesn't feel that they need any gates anyways.
freebrickproductions I'm surprised the l&n had no gated crossings
freebrickproductions wait this is the ex-l&n short line we are talking about, right?
The branch that became l&n after the 1957 merger?
tHEWHateVER It was built by the NC&StL, which later became part of the L&N yes.
No gates? Hmm.

why don't any of the hmcr crossings have gates
Because they don't want them.
28:54 why are there traffic lights on the right?
You talking about Mountain Gap Road? The signals are used to let train crews know that the crossing signals are active.
+freebrickproductions Thanks for letting me know
freebrickproductions l wish l lived there cause l could see them but l live verry far from Alabama

The HMCR is a bit tight on cash, but they're able to do pretty well despite that. Thanks!
James Birt yeah the crossing lights are especially hard to see in some because they are so tiny and worn out.
Cool video and catches! Interesting crossing signals too!
Thanks! Just uploaded another one of these. The HMCR has a number of old L&N signals left along it, though, as you can see, most of these are newer signals.
Dingalingaling goes the lily Flagg road safetran bell 🔔
It might be that little crinkle on the left
What?
10:10 Hotline bling Ave
Another Malfunction at Mountain Gap Road.
GD Legocreator hello fellow geometry dasher :D
All gateless. Don’t see that very often.
IIRC, it's because the HMCR doesn't want to have to deal with maintaining (and the added liability) of gates.
I live around there.
Cool. So do I.
I used to live there when I was a toddler XD
Malfunction at Medowbrook Drive.
Governors drive needs some gates...
There's no need as;
All the cars stopped
and
This crossing is only used twice a day.
Drake and governors drive is like having the wires tangled up to the signals. So, what if a car crashes on it, and does shut out power in all huntsville?
U forgot Hobbs Island lololol
No signals there, so I didn't film it.
Where is the bell on the millie flagg crossing?
