SWD Alumni here/ Football Player in the late 80s. WE Ruled DeKalb County Fulton County. The games usually were over at halftime. complete blowouts. Gwinnett County and Cobb County didn't even want to play US. 7AAAA Champs, never lost a home game at panthersville stadium which has been renamed to William Buck Godfrey Stadium our Football coach, the "winningest" coach in DeKalb County history. My record while playing at Southwest was 23 wins and 2 losses. The quarterback on these highlights is Quincy Carter#3 He win the state championship in 96 at SWD. Quincy was drafted by the Chicago Cubs out of high school for baseball, he did that for 2 years . 3 years After high school, he would become the starting quarterback at the University of Georgia. After college he was drafted and started at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, from Decatur Georgia/ DeKalb County.

Do you have or can point me in the direction of anyone who has SW Dekalb vs Clarke Central 1989? my brother was RB for Clarke Central and y’all had Hason Graham (at the time one of the fastest niggas I ever seen in my life lol) I was 11 years old and it’s probably one of the best games I ever seen on any level and lowkey became a SWD fan after that game, respect to Buck Godfrey

@James Jones - You sound like a hater in the band from one of our rivals. No school in Ga had more college scholarships than SWD in the 1990s. You only play a South Ga team after you run through the busters in the north. Glad you enjoyed the video though clown.

ThePurplekobra1 all I remember is there was a fumble at the goal line while coweta was going in for a touchdown. Must have had a great team to keep it close against colquitt that year.

I played in this game #27; I love this video except for one fact. We The Wildcats are painted as the wolf. I was there. I remember the trash talking and disrespect coming from SW Dekalb team! Even the Atlanta newspapers got in on it. On the field they were just as nasty and disrespectful. This whole glowing example of the team is bs. We are adults now but they were a holes! We didn’t quit and refused to lose because we were pissed. But with all that they were and are one of the greatest teams to ever be put together. That receiving core they had alone was most likely the fastest ever in the field at one time. Greatest game I ever played in!! No question about it!

SWD had great teams in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. But once opposing teams figured out that they could throw the ball on Buck’s teams, he couldn’t adjust. It was like it was a source of pride for him to play Man. Ron Gartrell at Shamrock/Stephenson wasn’t afraid to play Nickel, regardless of what DL he was rocking with. And that made him the better in-game coach.
