Noun + のおかげで
おかげで is used when you want to say why something turned out well. It cannot be used to describe the cause of something bad. It is also often used to directly thank the listener for a good result.
“thanks to” has a positive meaning (～おかげ)
“because of” has a negative meaning (～せい)
薬のおかげで頭痛が治りました。
Thanks to the medicine, my headache is cured.
たばことお酒をやめたおかげで、健康になったように感じます。
Thanks to my decision to stop smoking cigarettes and drinking, I feel like I’ve become healthy.
彼は日本語が上手なおかげで、今の会社に就職させてもらいました。
Thanks to his proficient Japanese, he got a job at his current company.
夫は白髪が少ないおかげで若く見られがちです。
My husband tends to look young because he has few white hairs.
★てform +くれたおかげで／てform +もらったおかげで
おかげで is often used together with the てform +くれた or てform +もらった which expresses a sense of gratitude from the party who is a recipient of a particular favor. The difference is that for the てform +くれた, the subject of the sentence is the actor, implying that the actor (the subject) voluntarily takes the action while for the てform＋もらったおかげで , the subject of the sentence is the receiver of the action.
皆さんが手伝ってくれたおかげで、仕事を早く終わらせることができました。
皆さんに手伝ってもらったおかげで、仕事を早く終わらせることができました。
Thanks to everyone's help, I was able to get the job done early.
お母さんが起こしてくれたおかげで、遅刻せずに学校に行くことができた。

I gotta be honest, you absolutely lost me on the difference between てくれたおかげで and てもらったおかげで 😞 The English translations really look like the same sentence and I still can't see the difference. 😢
Actually, it's more like, WHY would I want to use one vs the other? In what situations is one more appropriate than the other?

1. てくれたおかげで
Nuance: This phrase emphasizes the *act of someone willingly doing something for you*. The focus is on the fact that the person took the initiative to help or do something for you.
Usage: Use this when you want to express gratitude for an action that someone did out of their own will or kindness.
Example:
- 友達が宿題を手伝ってくれたおかげで、よく理解できました。
- "Thanks to my friend helping me with my homework, I was able to understand it well."
2. てもらったおかげで
Nuance: This phrase focuses more on *the benefit or favor you received from someone doing something for you*. It suggests that you asked for or received a favor.

@MasaSensei OK, I think I got it now. With everything we've been taught about くれる and もらう, maybe I'm just concerned about sounding rude if I use てもらった when I should've used てくれた, ya know? 😅
