    Oh Michael . That was a lovely video. Well put together and well done for giving that cliffe walk a go. Not many people your age could do a 10th of what you do. I also enjoyed it as I visited there with my parents in Aug 1977. ( it was the week Elvis died) . I dont really remember anything of St. Davids ( i was 11 years old) but I do remember buying a leather bookmark from there with the cathedral on which started me collecting bookmarks for several years after that. I still have that bookmark. Thanks once again .👍

      Thank you Richard and I'm pleased it brought back a childhood memory. I think I overdid the cliff walk attempt and paid for it later that evening. Anyway, must try these things. Collecting bookmarks sounds interesting and with the advent of "Kindles and the like" they will become more and more rare. Regards Michael

      Thank you George. St David's is a nice place I love it. As for "the facts" I know, I have to admit I glean much from reading tourist information sheets and websites. When you get the chance to visit you should. Regards Michael

    Hi Michael, that was another lovely video. I went down as far as Newgale once, must be well over 15 years ago, but I’ve never been to St Davids. What a beautiful little City. Add it to my ever expanding list of places to visit...many thanks indeed...🍷🍷

      Thanks again Steve. The beach at Newgale is great and I love the nearby village of Solva. Next time you should visit the CITY of St David's, it is pretty and the cathedral is amazing when you think where it is. Regards Michael

    For some inexplicable reason, I think this was your best travelogue to date. I should love to sail into that harbour from open waters, what a feeling that would be. You are right about the cathedral, it is magnificent. I shall never die, my bucket list is getting longer. Thank you for sharing this tiny city with us Michael.
    Regards, David.

      Thank you David. I am learning and can see many mistakes and things I could do better but your comment inspires me, so thanks for that. By the way, as far as I can make out St David's surname was not Atkins!! What a shame. Regards Michael

      Hello Ruth. Firstly thanks for watching. It was my 1st visit to Israel and in the mid 1970's. Bombs were going off everywhere and we were having dinner in an open air restaurant. Suddenly lots of people started running away. I asked what was happening and my host said "Oh, someone said there is a bomb under a table."
      "Shouldn't we go as well?" I asked.
      "No point," came the reply. "Run away from that one and there will be another round the corner!!!"
      That was my introduction to your country.
      Regards Michael

      @@michaelchartres That must have been a bit frightening for you. It happens that people forget their rucksacks, shopping bags, etc. and nobody knows who they belong to. The MO in these cases is to call the authorities who clear the area and investigate. Life does get a bit frightening these days also - especially in the areas close to Gaza. The Arabs send missiles and when the siren goes, folk have to get to their shelters. In Jerusalem we have 90 seconds to do this (and it doesn't happen so much here) but in what they call the "Gaza Envelope" they have 10 or even less seconds. However, I love the country and especially Jerusalem and feel really privileged to live here.

    A grwat tour and a very nice place to visit. 👍 Can you tell me what exactly is the difference between town and city? Take care. Kind Regards Andy 🤠

    • @michaelchartres
      @michaelchartres  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Andy. The differences between a Town and a City are simple. In a City the local Authority can charge MORE tax and the folk who live there think they are better and look down on those that live in a humble village with no nightclubs. It is silly really. In the USA it seems to me that they even call villages "Cities". LOL Regards Michael

    Is it still a requirement that a city can only be called a city if it has a cathedral? In Australia the designation is determined by size, population and whether it is urban in nature, there is no requirement for a cathedral.

    • @michaelchartres

      Thanks for watching Donald. The Cathedral element of being a city no longer exists in the UK. I believe it is along the same lines you have.

      Hello Susan. When I first read your comment I didn't understand the abbreviation "ur". LOL then it clicked my 80 year old brain !! Answer - No my van is not automatic. Just me, I'm automatic.😂 Regards Michael

      @@michaelchartres haha, yes I have to look in ' the urban dictionary ' sometimes, for modern abréviations ! I asked because Gwyndylyn seems to glide along, and goes up hills well(I'm a bit hill phobic in my van) don't know why, I always think I haven't got enough gears left!!

    • @michaelchartres
      @michaelchartres  3 года назад

      Gwendolyn has just a 2 ltr engine but is also only 3500 kgs. I do have to change gear but do so the moment I hear the revs dropping and when the shots are taken from the dashcam you will see the speed reducing. What van have you got and where do you use it. I looked at your channel but there is no content so I couldn't find out. It would be nice to know. Regards Michael

      @@michaelchartreshi Michael, we have Renault master 2006 2.5 engine(think that's how u say it) its OK power wise, but I hate it when I don't get a run àt à hill, like those hairpins in France for example, perhaps it's because I'm too cautious, even though I've driven in Europe for more than 10 years 4 months at a time... Its just 'the hills'!!!! I'm always afraid of coming to a halt halfway round the bend, not having enough umph. I'd like to tour Netherlands🤣🤣,,, truly.,, but I must keep challenging myself, I know or I'll get old quicker than its already happen g ( I'm 67) and hate it,, apart from the life experience one has. I think u are an inspiration, if u don't mind me saying,Many too but don't know her age and don't see as much of her... Bit rambley, sorry....

      @michaelchartres  3 года назад

      67 !!! You are still young. Yes you must keep pushing to the limit and enjoy life. Make more memories. I have travelled extensively on the continent but not in a motorhome and have toured the Netherlands in my boat NORSELA. If you haven't seen her search "Colvic Watson for sale SOLD but I kept the memories".. Nice thing about a boat as opposed to a motorhome is NO GEARS to change other than Forward and Reverse and no hills unless it gets very rough at sea.
      Please don't be sorry for rambling, I love it. Ramble on Susan. Regards Michael
