    Excellent drill to test your “all the time“ accuracy! Very good info here. Also, he seems like a very good instructor. Thanks!

    I like the concept, but without a time limit, I don’t think it holds up as a test/drill to determine someone’s ability to respond to a threat.
    Since this is the ASP Channel, with tons of data on real world defensive shootings, how often is a person able to take 3 seconds to fire 3 shots at 10 yards in a self-defense scenario?

    • @musicman1eanda
      @musicman1eanda 4 месяца назад +2

      I think it's helpful to think of it as a test, but not THE test to obliterate all other tests. This test isolates accuracy. We know when time is truly a critical factor that accuracy will go down, but I think it is very useful to know how accurate you can be without time constraints. Then at least you know your 100% capability and can bring some more objectivity to your decision making under stress.

      @@musicman1eanda I think it’s a good general shooting test, but I don’t think it has anything to do with self-defense shooting skills or ability.

      The rule is 1.5 second draw time. Shooting time. No limit as that's more based on scenario

    • @EuropaChronicles
      @EuropaChronicles 4 месяца назад +1

      @@jason200912 I disagree. First off, that’s 1.5 seconds (minimum) to a first shot on target, which isn’t stipulated here. In fact, my guess is we’d see 2.0+ draw to 1st shot times if we watched people do this drill at 10+ yards since there’s no time limit given; they’d spend lots of extra time cleaning up the sight picture and deliberately pulling the trigger.
      You are right that the amount of time “given” in a real life scenario depends on lots of factors, but it’s almost never going to be 1 second per shot just standing in the open.
      I think a better variation of this test for anyone who is carrying a gun in real life (armed citizen, police officer, military) would be to use the 1.5 sec draw to 1st shot standard and then add 0.50 sec per each additional round out to 15 yards (equivalent to a 4-sec Bill Drill); at 20 yards and beyond probably switch to a 2.0 second draw and 0.60-0.75 second splits (equivalent to a 5-6 sec Bill Drill).
      These are relatively modest standards that anyone who is serious about carrying a gun can make with practice. Will people shoot faster than that in a real life gunfight? Yes, but these times are still slow enough to make the drill primarily accuracy-based.

      @@EuropaChronicles I didn't say 1 second or 1.5 second to shoot. I said 1.5 second to have your gun at the ready

      For determining a person’s ability to respond to a self-defense encounter? No, no it’s not.
      Real world shootings have a time limit.

    Hey i have a video suggestion. Can you do a review on the Hornady buckshot loads with versatite? Reason being is Federal flite control can be hard to find, yet Hornady is available. Would love to see a a good in depth review. Like you said, shotguns are snow flakes

      Ed’s a good man. If you plan to train with Ed in Arkansas be sure to book your accommodations in Little Rock at the Hilton and drive the hour trip to “The Last Resort” or you’ll be very disappointed. The further south you go (20min drive) from the range the nastier the accommodations are and the foul smell in the air from those paper mills is vomit worthy!

      The challenge of course is that physical exertion and emotional stress are wildly different and so doing it with physical exertion doesn’t really simulate anything.

  • @markhatfield5621

    Another factor is that people may do well with their practice ammo but not so well with their actual defensive ammo. They (people and ammo) can be very different.

      It’s always worth checking zero shift from practice to carry ammo for sure.

      You can correct the analogy by not shooting FMJ ammo and only use TMJ ammo during practice. Yes, there’s a huge difference when comparing accuracy.
