It's frustrating to see that the best our mainstream media channels can do to explain this situation is to say he struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues. It is a fact that people who struggle with addiction use drugs to self-soothe their internal emotional state after not learning how to regulate their emotions as a child. Every single time you hear about a celebrity dying from a drug overdose or suicide, I want you to think "this is in some way connected to their childhood." I did about 3 minutes of reading on Wikipedia to see that he was born into a traumatic life. He was in and out of hospitals from his earliest days for a number of different health issues. Eventually, doctors discovered that one of his kidneys wasn't functioning properly and that was the source of his physical problems, but I would say that the larger emotional trauma that came out of this time in his life was a failure to bond with his primary caregiver (usually mom but can also be dad). It is absolutely crucial that a child spend those first 9 months of life very closely connected to their mother. Studies have shown that if a child doesn't bond with a parent during the earliest phases of its life, the damage will be irreparable. Unfortunately, children that have to spend a lot of time at the hospital for health complications after birth are at elevated risk of missing out on this bonding experience and then struggle with emotional and mental issues later in life. That was about all I could quickly find online about his childhood, but maybe some of you that are bigger fans know more about his relationship with his parents and his formative schooling experiences. I read that he started boxing when he was 12 in response to bullying. I bet this also contributed to an internal lack of security and sense of self-worth. The main take away here is that your childhood experiences affect your adult experiences. Childhood isn't something that just magically ends one day. You carry it inside of you throughout your entire life. If we want to help people like Liam *before* they develop drug addictions, or before they have intimacy issues, or before they die by suicide, we have to go back to the source of the problems, which would be the experiences they have growing up in a dysfunctional family. Hopefully we can learn from Liam's situation, and I do believe our society is moving towards being more honest and open about the devastating effects of mental health issues on all of our lives, not just for celebrities, and we will soon be able to change our culture to one where we're giving people the bonding they need with their primary caregivers that will prevent all of the other problems that they're having later in life.
I was sick from birth and hospitalised many times with many traumatic experiences. My mother didn’t bond with me as couldn’t see me for a while after birth. They never even told her I had a facial birthmark. I’ve also struggled with mental health and addiction. I went on to study to help young addicts but my physical health took over before I got the chance to fulfil that hope. ❤
I’d like to think you mean well, but it’s way too soon to be psychoanalyzing him, a famous stranger who most of us essentially know but his name. @@gr3yb4lls Very annoying to have this self-important "hopefully we can learn from Liam's situation..." having just described a situation that is mostly conjecture.
This kid was in pain no pun intended. He was a 16-year-old popstar, who was built up to be the next big superstar like Justin Timberlake. to have his band dismantled and him not reached that level of fame that he previously had. He was sexually exploited by older women Cheryl Lloyd, Naomi Campbell and others. Like so many others when fame declined. He turned to drugs and alcohol.

Rest in peace dear Liam Payne. It still does not feel real. I cannot believe it. I was such a big fan of One Direction. Still am. Their music is superb. Their interviews were hilarious. Then he came out with some solo music, which was exciting. I read that he had a lot of things prepared. It's so tragic the way he went out, alone, and the way he went out. I'm trying to numb the pain by saying, at least he was having a good time there, went to Niall's concert, hung out with his girlfriend, met so many amazing fans, etc. But in the end, he went out alone and tragically. People cared for and loved you deeply dear Liam. I remember in One Direction, he was basically like the leader. So vey responsible. It's so true what Louis has said. He was so mature and smart. I hope you are in true peace lovely Liam. 🙏
I’m 65 years old and not a One Direction fan, but have to admit that it strikes me deeply that such a young man, who was once on top of the world, has died so young.

when the hotel manager decided to send him back, alone to his room, considering that he was mostly unconscious, why hasn't he thought of at least locking the balcony doors knowing the risks it posed to a guest under substance influence, while waiting for help to arrive?
Liam coulda simply unlocked it. The only kinda lock that might have kept him from opening the balcony door, would require a power tool, and the manager, having other guests to attend to, probably didn't have time to think-of that. He did the first thing that came to mind: He called his equivalent of 9-1-1.

I promise you he leaned over the railing either cause he felt sick or needed fresh air or something and being too high is how he passes out and fell
How does an unconscious or partially conscious person fall or jump from a balcony, genuine question? A guest heard a male shouting and a scream just before it all happened. They said he was smashing up his room, but only the TV appears to be damaged. During the several times he was in the lobby and clearly in trouble, why weren't Police called them, also when he was apparently convulsing in the lobby, why wasn't an ambulance called them, seems missed opportunities to save him, maybe because he was famous! It's all very sad, the hotel needs new protocols for situations like this.
I heard that the shouting was earlier, in the day. I also saw a pic of the room, from a different angle, and there were things strewn, everywhere. A semi-conscious person can walk and talk, and even climb over a balcony railing---they won't be good at any of it, but they CAN do it. Anyway, I just read that People magazine, and The Associated Press, are reporting that local authorities confirm that he jumped..

Liam had the strongest vocals in 1D and he was the leader. He never recovered from the breakup and there was too much pressure as a solo artist, given the fact that he was the most vocally talented among them.
The most vocally talented one among them was Zayn. He was the only one could hit those high notes both on recording and live. Liam was the one who sort of grounded their music. He was like the centre in their first album but Harry's hair took over after it.
I think they all are great solo artists. Liam just couldn’t get his solo career going. He did go on interviews saying his album was being released, but nothing happened. He was spiraling fast. The drugs that were in his system (meth, ketamine, molly, crack) can cause hallucinations. Maybe he thought the balcony was his door to leave the hotel. Nobody knows. When the investigation is complete, I’m sure we will know more.
He had been blessed with so much. Travel, enjoy life, prioritise your wellbeing, and cherish your family. Don't let drugs consume you. Even those facing immense challenges find reasons to live. Addiction can be an illness but treatment is a choice. Please seek help.

Poor Liam, all the fame, the money, women could not fill the void he possibly was feeling inside this whole time. I knew with his depressive state tendancy that he had a childhood trauma wound to heal. But it takes a lifetime to heal. And then life happens, work etc that can distract from the process of healing. Unfortunately, instead of going to therapy, he chose the easiest way to escape his tortured mind which is hard drugs. He also might had an hallucination phase in his final moment. It's so sad.
There comes a time, though, when you've gotta let-go, or they'll pull you right down, with them---I've been there; it suqs, so badly, but you've gotta do it.

He was very close to his parents.
A LOT of speculations. You don’t know this man, you don’t know exactly how he felt, you don’t know his experiences just because you read an article.
At a time like this, compassion and condolence are more appreciated. I think the speculations will come, but please hold it off while his family, friends, and fans are still grieving.

when the hotel manager decided to send him back, alone to his room, considering that he was mostly unconscious, why hasn't he thought of at least locking the balcony doors knowing the risks it posed to a guest under substance influence, while waiting for help to arrive?
Liam coulda simply unlocked it. The only kinda lock that might have kept him from opening the balcony door, would require a power tool, and the manager, having other guests to attend to, probably didn't have time to think-of that. He did the first thing that came to mind: He called his equivalent of 9-1-1.
They should have kept him in the lobby until help arrived. Why would you leave someone in that state by themselves!

Exactly
Ok so I truly don't understand how could someone one fall when they are unconscious? Makes no sense....
I think it's more like semi-concious because that way he can still fall around

I can imagine it in my head its so simple but yet you don't see it so you won't ever understand so stay in your lane
I wish he could see how loved he was x
I was addicted to fentanyl, Xanax and cocaine for a long time I’ve been sober 5 years now but I truly believe that we will learn soon he was on the balcony getting fresh air cause he felt sick or too high and he probably leaned over the railing passed out and fell over because he didn’t have any injuries to his hands like he braced himself like anyone would if they fell. I promise you he leaned over the railing either cause he felt sick or needed fresh air or something and being too high is how he passes out and fell
Yeah, but I don't think a person who wanted to jump, would try to brace themselves, either.
One interview said that it was as if he was trying to dive into the pool…
This is exactly my thinking. If he had to commit suicide, he could have done that by overdosing the drugs he was using.
Sounds about right.😢
No your comment doesn't make any sense at all. Liam's death is very suspicious and I think foul play was involved. Too many things don't add up.

Liam had the strongest vocals in 1D and he was the leader. He never recovered from the breakup and there was too much pressure as a solo artist, given the fact that he was the most vocally talented among them.
I think Zayn has a very beautiful voice, too. Liam and Rita Ora did that song for 50 Shades and I love that song.

Poor Liam, all the fame, the money, women could not fill the void he possibly was feeling inside this whole time. I knew with his depressive state tendancy that he had a childhood trauma wound to heal. But it takes a lifetime to heal. And then life happens, work etc that can distract from the process of healing.
