- Grainy audition tapes from 1986 - never been seen before by the public - show Keanu Reeves joking and auditioning with Alex Winter. The hilarious, 34-year-old footage includes the first time Reeves and Winter enthusiastically strummed their air guitars in unison, which would become a signature feature of the movie and its 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Sources tell DailyMail.com that much of the instant chemistry and laughter came about when Reeves and Winter were in the same scenes and it was obvious they were perfect for the parts.

Something that not a lot of people understand is that it takes people with extraordinary intelligence to pretend to be people with low intelligence. These two are excellent.

Alex butting his head against the wall after Keanu reminds him that Missy is his stepmother killed me. Great improv by him if that wasnt in the script.

I like that they dialed back the mild irritation or aggressive aspects of their personalities. Having them be carefree and happy was definitely the way to go. And Keanu & Alex played that so well.

They are doing a perfect job of Bill and Ted trying to audition for a movie.
Ted’s character didn’t change but Bill got less like a pot-head
Bill got a lot more sweet and innocent. Alex played him a bit too dumb and abrasive here, but by the time he'd gotten to filming he had lightened it up considerably. Both he and Keanu did that. It was the smart decision.

I'm glad they changed the script! This was the first movie I ever saw with my friends without any parents. It was the best! One of the best days of my life. They could make a 1980s teen flick out of that day!

That bit where Ted thinks Bill is talking about the Scarecrow rather than the Tinman, that almost seems out of character, they didn't get things wrong like that in the in the final movie. It's always interesting to see how characters evolve in the process.
Yeah, it's intriguing to see them with the rough edges still in place. A lot more fine tuning went into the performances than I think we all realized.
What a delight to see these two back in the old days, so young. I miss the past, Everything is so beautiful, well, when we're young. Keanu and Alex..magnificent, eternal friends. Congratulations to you two.👏👏👏😃🙃😉💋💋💋

Haven't seen Alex since I was about 15, but you really see his magnetic personality here. I took dance with his mom, and we ended up at JCCA summer camps together. Four week sleep-away camp every summer! His rendition of Anything You Can Do absolutely brought down the house. He's also way smarter than he appears.

Another thing that connected Keanu and Alex was their connection to the UK. Alex was born in the UK, while Keanu's mother was born in the UK.
