Juan Pujol is my favorite. He starts off as a Walter Mitty like character who is so persistent about his fantasies of becoming a spy he actually became one. Fueled by his imagination he dreams up a tangled web of deception. The tempting question is how much did Canaris know or suspect and how much did he enable and promote Garbo to scuttle Hitler?

How did "turning spies" actually work? Germans certainly gave an ultimatum of do or die, but did the British have a similar law of "spies will be shot, unless"? That's how it certainly feels like considering the 100% turn rate.
