AWESOME! The vellum-back sticker was my fav!
@@Khai-MediaCo I love that one too! So easy to use vellum with full adhesive backing. :)
I had never thought of embossing acetate!! Can’t wait to give that a try!!
I love the framed magnetic board! I can't tell you how much time I've spent searching all over my desk and floor looking for that die that was just there a minute ago!! My second favorite is the embossed acetate. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Hi, Simon. My fave is the magnetic sheet. How about making a different 'sandwich' from the three components - magnetic sheet on the top, hardboard in the middle and glass on the back? Then you've got one side for dies you're using and the reverse for stamps when stamping. Good luck with your new venture.
Hi Clair! Thats a really great idea... thanks for sharing that tip to make the frame more versatile. :)
Clair .. Awesome idea!! 😉😊
Fab idea Clair
Fantastic idea!
I love that you not only ask others ideas but that you share them. So great!!!!
Thanks so much Mary! All of the ideas were so great, I was so excited to share them. :)
Hi Simon!! 1. I created a magnet frame with a cheap acrylic frame from the dollar store. It stands up like you were talking about, and it also has a place for stamps you're using as well as the die cuts.
2. You can sprinkle those embellishments down, pick them up with the tape, then just turn it over. Easier than placing them one by one.
3. Can't wait for your inks!!
4. That roll of adhesive is amazing!! It's one of my fav tools!! Great idea on the vellum!
Awesome ideas thanks so much for sharing! I am so excited to see what you create with my new inks. :)
Great tips. Can you do a video on how you got started in the craft industry. I’d love to hear your story. Congratulations on your product line.
Thanks! Yes I will share a video about my story soon. :)
@@simon.hurley yay, so curious abt you. You are so young but already have a product line, proud of you.
Go to Scrapbook.com .. Simon has a Class there that you can sign up for. It starts Feb. 4th. I think his 1st Class is talking about how he got started in crafting.😉🙂
Jill Lukas thank you 😊
Hi Simon, like the magnet picture frame.. On intricate die cuts I take a sponge with some liquid adhesive and go over the back of my die..There is just enough adhesive without making a mess..TYFS..Good Luck with your new products looking forward to using them..
Congratulations on your new line. I liked the way you can add color to your embossing powder. Great idea. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Simon, my fav was the magnetic frame for dies. Love your new inks too!😍
Me too! That frame is so awesome for dies. :)
I really liked that idea also.
Congrats on your new product line Simon! I've seen a lot of great card-making hacks over the years. My problem is remembering to use them! I used to keep a list of techniques (describing them as best as I could). I need to pull that old list out! I think you bring a young spirit, lots of fresh ideas and vitality to the craft! Great video!
Thanks so much!!! :)
Great video. I thought the frame to keep your dies in place while you're using them was terrific. It was so simple and yet I would never, ever thought of it. Thanks to you and the person who sent you this tip.
Hi Simon, love these cardmaking life hacks! You have quite a following already and it's so nice to see a young person coming into this business/hobby. Would love to know more about you got interested in making cards. Keep up the good ideas and thanks for asking for ideas from those more experienced card artists. It shows a more mature thinking!
Thanks Margaret! I got started when I was 11 using Ranger’s alcohol inks and found cardmaking to try and use the backgrounds. :)
The vellum was by far my favorite idea!!!
I use a magnetic bowl to put my dies in when working with them. You can get them on Amazon. They are used by mechanics to store screws when they are taking something apart and they don't want to lose the bits.
That sounds like a great idea! :)
I love the magnet in the frame idea, but I was envisioning several of them on my wall with magnetic tins to hold my small embellishments. It would look like like a gallery of gorgeousness!
Yes!!! On the wall it would be awesome. :)
Hi Simon.. I love the hack for the clear embossing to get whatever color you want... will make keeping color themes easier for little budgets ..🥳..Thank you for making these going to try now ..👋👋
The magnetic frame plus embossing on acetate were my 2 fav hacks!!
The frame is AWESOME !!!!! Perfect to hang on your wall with most frequently used!
Love the magnetic frame and the vellum hack too good👏🏼
Really enjoyed this video! Love that you tried others ideas and made a video of them! I LOVE the magnetic sheet idea and the vellum stickers! Thank you!
Love the vellum adhesive tip! Thanks Simon!
My favorite is the adhesive backing on the vellum paper. Genius idea. Vellum can be difficult to attach with tape/glue, so this works great.
Agreed! This makes vellum so much easier to use. :)
I love that you are getting your own line of products! They really look good! Thanks for the hacks! This old grandma really appreciates you.
Thanks so much Carla! I am so excited to see what you will create with my new product line. :)
Great ideas! I especially liked the framed magnetic board.
Thanks!!! :)
Thanks for sharing this Simon. My favorite is the full adhesive on the back of the vellum. Also, can’t wait to try your new inks in February.
I can’t wait to see what you make with my new inks. :)
I love the magnetic frame idea! Thanks!
Great tips. Thanks, Simon. The vellum sticker may be my favorite.
Nice new beginning ! Like to always hear other people's clever ideas. Thanks
I use those magnet sheets for storing my dies and will definitely be making the magnet frame. You could also hang the frame on the wall for storage and take it down when you need it. Thanks for the tips.
Yes! That is a great idea to hang it on the wall. :)
I want to make the magnetic picture frame - great idea. Like the frame you used.
Great tips! My favorites are the magnetic picture frame to hold my dies and the scrapbook.com adhesive back vellum. Thanks for sharing these, I will definitely be trying both of these life hacks!
Thanks Carole! :)
Great ideas; love the vellum backing of scrapbooking.com as it's always been a challenge to use vellum without adhesive showing. Loved them all actually.
Great tips! Love the vellum hack and the acetate embossing. And I think you're magnetic picture frame was brilliant & a great addition to any craft space.
The clear adhesive on the back of vellum is a great idea, sometimes it can be difficult to stick to the front of a card without the glue spots looking obvious.
Agreed! The Scrapbook. Com adhesive is perfect. :)
Love the vellum idea.
Oh Simon. I don’t have a favorite of these life hacks. I love them all and will put each one into my card making process. Thanks for the inspiration.
Years ago, I often embossed on vellum with white powder, then rubbed chalks on top of the powder with q-tips. Great, but then it was hard to put on a card. I wrapped it around the entire card with a strip of adhesive on the back or attached with a cord. But now I can just use my huge roll of Scrapbook adhesive to put anything on vellum onto a card. Yay! I have lots of embossing folders because of the craft aisle in Tuesday morning! Many different designs for cheaper -- lots of fun!
That sounds awesome! :)
You should try it, and then do a video on it!!
Love the adhesive roll idea. I've also used Xyron (I have a larger machine) and Stick-it sheets. But I think that roll might be more economical in the long run. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! One of my favorite ways to use embossed acetate is to add it as a window on the lid or sides of the boxes I make. I love the card you made with it! Keep up the great work! You are an inspiration!
Thanks Marsha! :)
Great vellum idea and the embossed acetate! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Simon! Wonderful ideas! My favorite one though is embossing on acetate. So beautiful!!
I’m a visual person so it would have helped me understand exactly what you did with the Vellum and the stamping up sticker paper. I had to replay it several times and really listen closely to understand that the vellum was on the sticky paper but what really clued me in was seeing you peel the cut out vellum sticker you created off the sticky paper and then reapply it for later use. It was at this point that I realized you must have applied the vellum off camera. I enjoyed your video showing your testing of our card making life hacks and I hope to see more in the future. My favorite was watching your technique of embossing over any colored ink on hand. That helped me a lot. Your inks are really pretty also. Keep up the great work and thank you.
Thanks for letting me know! Yes, I had applied the Scrapbook. com adhesive off camera. :)
My favorite hack is your vellum sticker! Thanks, Simon!
That is a great idea to hold your dies while you are working. Also liked the vellum trick too. Thanks for sharing!
The last one was great, I've been looking for clear rub on 'get well' for an area, now I'll use my stamps and make my own. I have a sticky paper that will work. I made alcohol ink sprayer with dye ink and rubbing alcohol in a spritzer, someone shared it with me, worked great. Tfs
Thanks for sharing Susan!
fantastic ideas! love the framed magnetic sheet!
The framed magnetic sheet. Can't wait for your product line release. Very exciting.
Thanks! I can’t wait to see what you will create with my products. :)
Magnetic frame will be so useful, and I loved the adhesive vellum hack. Thanks so much!
I made the magnetic frame today! Got a frame for 50 cents at the thrift store, painted in black, I had the duct cover already - took less than half an hour, and it works great! Mine has a stand, so the footprint is small and the dies are visible. Thanks!!!
Wow! Simon thanks for working through those life hacks! I really like embossing the acetate and heat embossing the scrapbook.com sticker roll 🙂 Would love to see you do more of these type of videos! Thanks!
I am so happy you enjoyed the video Connie! I will try to sprinkle these videos in between tutorials. :)
FANTASTIC Simon!!! You’re a genius 😊
Thanks Ana! :)
Magnetic picture frame! Terrific idea.
Thank you sooooo much for these hacks . Love the magnetic frame, the acetate-card and the vellum solution. 😍😍😍 please more
Right off the bat I loved the Magnetic sheet frame! I was all in after that. Thank you Simon! Bev (2/03/2019) Congratulations again for all the great things that are happening to you......you truly deserve it!
Thanks so much! :)
Thank you for sharing your tips they will come in handy
Great hacks Simon...my fav was running the acetate through an embossing folder...can't believe I haven't tried that yet..lol...thanks for sharing...hugs xx
I thought the same thing... it’s so much fun! :)
Congratulations on your product line. You are a remarkable young man. I remember how great of a job Tim Holtz did on the Carol Duvall show. That was before your time. You remind me of him from those days.
Thanks Jesse! :)
Jesse, I found one of the episodes from 2004 on RUclips (posted in 2011) Christmas card episode....might have to try it for next year!
@@lindadonnajohns2190 I have never tried that technique, but that snowman was awesome!
I use those magnetic bowls that mechanics use to not loose screws and such! You pan pick up a 4 pack, that also includes a mid sized tray, From Harbor Freight for about 5 bucks! Or they can be found at any local car parts store!
Glad you like the stamp Junkies. I hope you come to junkie Fest this year! The life hack I like the best was the acetate. I can't wait for the trampoline stamp set!
Yes, they are such a great group. Hopefully I can make it this year. :)
Hi Simon, I love the vellum idea! I too have the xyron but using larger pieces are a pain! I will order the adhesive. Also, to hold my stamps and dies for a project, I have an acrylic sign holder that I put magnetic tape on the bottom leaving the top portion free to hold my stamps. It sits nicely on my desk and I put pretty paper inside where the sign would go. They use these in schools and offices to show peoples' names.
Great idea!
That’s such an awesome idea Lorraine! Thanks for sharing. :)
I really like the magnetic frame, thanks
That adhesive backed vellum is genius!
Simon I just found your awesome videos!! So glad I did to! All the tips were great and I have two favorites, the magnetic frame (i have the vent covers and a frame already) and the trick with the vellum is one I see myself using a lot in the future. I think it is wonderful that you have a love for crafts at such a young age!! Look forward to seeing and learning more from you.
Hi Simon, another great video thank you I have a question on a problem I have some extremely intricate dies and it’s very hard to glue them onto something so I started putting double-sided tape behind the card stock before I die cut it I have this big roll of Elizabeth crabs double-sided tape but what happens is my Gemini Junior doesn’t cut through it very well and it’s like the plastic backing is too strong and I end up having to like pokey throughout every little bit. Which I had hoped I would never have to do again. am I just using the wrong double-sided adhesive ?? the Gemini Junior cuts everything else out so well until I get to this thanks Simon. Janie
Hi Janie! When doing this the cardstock can't be too thick... thats why i use it with vellum. If you do use cardstock, try using the metal shim while cutting... this should help it cut through. It may not cut through the adhesive backer sheet, so you can just peel the die cut out of the sheet like a sticker. :)
@@simon.hurley I saw Karen Acheson dip a sponge in a small pool of glue and gently rub on back of the intricate dies. I haven't tried it yet.
Thanks Simon, I do use the metal plate and it still does not really cut through the plastic back sheet. It kind of leaves and impression but it just doesn’t come through. One problem is that I like to make these things and I don’t have anywhere in mind to put them just yet. I just like to take the pretty diecut piece and add it to my collection for when I do want to use it. I have been using some really beautiful papers and I cannot say that they are particularly thin they are not really paper, they are card stock!
All great tips but I loved the magnetic frame for keeping dies during a project and embossing acetate sheets! How cool!. I also loved the roll of adhesive from Scrapbook.com with vellum-I discovered that a few months ago and I love it! Thanks!
Thanks so much! That adhesive is so strong... works wonders! :)
Lots of great tips! I love the framed magnet sheet, the embossed acetate, and the scrapbook.com adhesive on the back of vellum. Wow, so much good stuff, thanks for sharing this :)
Thanks so much!
Adhesive backed vellum ! Wonderful tip. Can't wait to incorporate it into my projects ty
Thanks so much Suzanne! It makes vellum so much easier to create with on cards fully adhesive backed. :)
Me encantan tus tips, son geniales, he aprendido mucho con ellos y he perdido un poco el miedo a hacer card making. Saluditos desde Mexico
Simon, I am new to spectrum noir pens - alcohol base. I notice you use alcohol pens. do you have problems with the color going through the paper? Do I have to use special paper? Or if I use them I have to cut what I am using and layer it onto the card? I just bought the entire set (72) and would hate not to be able to use them because they bleed through.
Alcohol pens do bleed through cardstock, but they create beautiful blended effects. :)
Thanks for the tips on using adhesive with vellum. I never thought of using a xyron adhesive or the double sided adhesive tape, great tips!
Thanks Janice! I love that too... it makes it so easy to use vellum on cards. :)
I have a large magnetic bowl that I got from Harbor Freight, it's a magnetic parts holder and works great for my dies.
I loved the vellum hack!!!!
Great tips! Enjoyed them all!
I love that magnet frame hack! :o
love thepic frame idea!!!!
I love the tip of embossing the acetate, the magnetic frame, and the sticker maker for Vellum I have a few sizes of the sticker makers, so, would be able to use the larger one for larger projects.
Thanks awesome Angela! I didn’t know they made several sizes. :)
They used to, not sure if they still do. I have had mine for years.
Yes, Xyron still makes the larger sticker makers - 5in and 9in, I believe are the other sizes besides the tiny X one.
Just thought I would add a note. Xyron is available in 5 inch and 9 inch widths. You can actually Xyron a whole piece of 8.5x11 inch paper. I'm not saying I don't also have a roll of the wide tape you showed. I also really liked the magnet sheet frame. I'll be making one of those for sure.
Thanks for letting me know! :)
I love the framed magnetic sheet. I will definitely be making one of those. I have lost a couple of small dies in the past and it is so annoying.
Agreed! It can be so annoying... glad you found the magnetic frame to be helpful. :)
Congratulations once again Simon!!! I am very interested in your inks. Also, I like your new counter set up behind you!! Gives me some ideas for my room. Love all the hacks but my faves would be the magnetic frame (looks so decorative), the clear embossing tip (I don't have a lot of embossing powders) and I love the embossed acetate!! Can't wait to try that on a card! Have a great week!! :)
Really great tips from everyone!
Thanks for sharing your video. I really like the vellum embossed sticker idea and the magnetic frame & the dye ink and embossing idea. Looking forward to seeing your new line. P.s.-its nice to see more guys getting into the card making business. 😀
Thanks so much! :)
Loved the vellum backed sticker. That was cool.
These tips are great!! TFS.. my favorites are the vellum stickers and the colored embellishments. Would that work on wood die cuts?
Not sure... I don’t die cut with wood! :)
Tried to leave a comment on your blog, but it's not accepting it, so this is what I wrote: Congrats on your new line, Simon! I took a look at all the yummy goodness that will be released. Those stencils are ones I will need for sure! And, loving the yummy ink colors! Nice work!
Thanks so much Jean! :)
You'd be surprised at what you can use to emboss texture onto card. Normal stencils or card cut outs will do the job, as will patterned doilies from the dollar stores; non slip plastic shelf liner and even sequins!
That is so awesome! Thanks for sharing. :)
Hi Simon!
What great tips! Loved them all! Can't wait for your new product line to come out! 🤗
Thanks so much Michi! I am so excited to see what you create with my products. :)
Brilliant!!!!! Love these hacks....
i liked all the hacks, great ideas, the velum one is the best as I love velum but hate trying to fasten it down :)
Thanks! I love that too... makes it so much easier to use vellum. :)
Another material that's fun to embellish is vellum. The areas that are embossed turn white. You may need to play with the sandwich since it can crack if there's too much pressure.
That sounds awesome! Thanks :)
Hard to pick a favorite as they were all good. Congratulations on your new product line !
Thanks so much. :)
I like them all! Thank you
I have watched this video twice. I missed the hack about vellum the 1st time. That would have solved an issue with my card using vellum to water color on. Definitely one of the favorites plus the acetate and using our inks to create our own colored embossing powder look.
Thanks Roberta! So glad you enjoyed those hacks and glad you watched it twice to catch the vellum life hack. :)
Thank you, so much for the Life Hack tutorial. I especially enjoyed both the embossed acetate and the vellum sticker.
So awesome! Congratulations on the inks! You rock. So proud of you. You need to be blessed with thousands of more subbies. 😊👍 🙏🙏💖☝
Thanks so much Marisol!
Love the frame idea!
Hi Simon, love all your videos, so easy to follow. Today's video I loved the vellum idea best, but all good. Keep up the good work. 😊
Big congratulations on your new product line! I love your beautiful ink colors. Am hoping you might come out with some matching card stocks in the future?!
Thanks so much! We'll see about matching cardstock... ;)
Thanks Simon! I always love your videos. I am making a magnetic frame today! So cool.
Awesome! I hope you love it as much as I do. :)
Wonderful ideas!
Thank you for sharing your videos
Great video! Love all the hacks! The frame was by far the best! Genius! I’m making one of those tomorrow! Keep up the good work! TFS!
Hi Simon, How exciting about you releasing your own product line! Congratulations! I really liked the picture frame magnetic sheet hack, great idea!
Thanks so much... can’t wait to see what you create with my new products. :)
