Reading story books, novels, weekly magazines, etc. Serial stories that appeared in Kalki, Vikatan, Kumdam, etc kept readers hooked and made them eagerly wait for next week’s publication! It was such a golden time for reading books.

Spent most of the day either outside playing or reading story books or going outing to beach etc … temple is another frequent or daily visit . After PS…. I took me few months to come out of “chola Nadu “. Then studied sivagamiyin sabatham . Both Kalki novels I finished each per year . PS - age 9; SS - age 10. Savi’s Washingtonnil thirumanam I studied at the age 8. From younger days all English mysteries like Enid blyton series, Nancy drew series, Sherlock Holmes , Shakespeare, Ruskin bond stories, Rabindranath stories, Jane Eyre, Heathcliff, and some other gothic romance (all decent like Jane eyre and heathcliff), Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, gone with the wind ( age 10 I read), Hmmm read more … Ican’t recollect on top of my head . Then later I was introduced to the tamil thuppariyum sambu, WT, then Kalki novel. Of course ACK, Tinkle etc . Anothe Enid blyton’s wishing chair … some fairy tale stories not the Snow White , Cinderella type books Alteady studied in first and second grade . Comics upt the age of 7….Mad comics , Richie rich, Archie, tamil rani comics … ……. AND STILL … we had ample amount of time to study our school texts get good grades and play outside a lot . Remember those were the days they fail you in final exam if you don’t do well and retain you in the same grade. …… STILL WE WERE ALL HAPPY … compared to now SUICIDE RATES WERE LOW. @4:04 same here too … didn’t wish to be made as movies. Our school teachers encouraged us to read books by saying the following dreamy words Advantages of reading a book - gain knowledge - gain a good friend for life long , who don’t criticize, who don’t backstab you, etc. A trustworthy bond for lifelong . - most important, one can imagine the situation, place , people etc and can waft into this imaginary world , with imaginary characters that we created by reading the books and travel along with them . Sense what they did , feel what they felt , etc … goes on and on . That’s what a good book would do . Hard to keep it down.

Kalki’s novel made in to a film after seventy years. Jayamohan got the opportunity to write the screenplay and dialogue now. If the film was made 15 to 20 years back Other writers like Sujatha or Balakumaran would have been the choices for writing the screenplay and dialogues.

Not only for maniratnam but each and every fan of ponniyin selvan admire poonguzhali definitely! But Kalki did not handle her character properly! Such a strong woman like her won't marry a passive person like senthan amudhan at any cost! Instead of that he could have killed her for some valuable reason and he unnecessarily given important to manimekalai at the last chapter!
He is like an open book. Even his Mother’s suicide is public knowledge. I don’t know whether his father also had a suicidal death. When I knew about it I was shocked how he could bear it and move on and write high quality stuff
One suggestion - please someone take and convey this suggestion to Ponniyin Selvan promotion team or to Director or to anyone associated. Promote the movie in Schools and colleges .......this will not only benefit the movie it will also take the legacy to the Young generation in understanding what our history is and promote love towards Tamizh culture and respect

Manimegal is the sole....she truly loved vandiya thevan....if we miss out that character....then it is not kalki's ponniyin Selva n ....if he couldn't cut scenes...they could have made it a 3 part

If they had ideas to cut down.... characters like poongulai and manimegal.....infact they could have avoided parthibendran's character...which is trivial when compared to those characters...if not they could have made it 3 part...one must make it right when we handle historic movies....for sure readers will be disappointed....only PPL who have not read the book will like it....it is so sad...that many tamil PPL have not read such novels ...how could they have a climax without manimegal?...dunno what they have done 😒.....good job interviewer ...

Kunthavai ku Trisha, Nandhini and Nandhini mom ku Aishwarya rai but for poongulali no one knows her in tamil industry. Enaku antha story la poongulali romba pidikum. So, not happy with casting for poongulali. But waiting to see the movie.

I too at the age of 9 studied full book and got impressed by kalki’s tamil and mayiam sir’s art .
@3:35 what’s there to be “impressed”!? Our days were last “organic “ lifestyle. Spent most of the day either outside playing or reading story books or going outing to beach etc … temple is another frequent or daily visit .
After PS…. I took me few months to come out of “chola Nadu “. Then studied sivagamiyin sabatham . Both Kalki novels I finished each per year . PS - age 9; SS - age 10. Savi’s Washingtonnil thirumanam I studied at the age 8. From younger days all English mysteries like Enid blyton series, Nancy drew series, Sherlock Holmes , Shakespeare, Ruskin bond stories, Rabindranath stories, Jane Eyre, Heathcliff, and some other gothic romance (all decent like Jane eyre and heathcliff), Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, gone with the wind ( age 10 I read), Hmmm read more … Ican’t recollect on top of my head . Then later I was introduced to the tamil thuppariyum sambu, WT, then Kalki novel. Of course ACK, Tinkle etc . Anothe Enid blyton’s wishing chair … some fairy tale stories not the Snow White , Cinderella type books Alteady studied in first and second grade . Comics upt the age of 7….Mad comics , Richie rich, Archie, tamil rani comics …
……. AND STILL … we had ample amount of time to study our school texts get good grades and play outside a lot . Remember those were the days they fail you in final exam if you don’t do well and retain you in the same grade. …… STILL WE WERE ALL HAPPY … compared to now SUICIDE RATES WERE LOW.

Advantages of reading a book
- gain knowledge
- gain a good friend for life long , who don’t criticize, who don’t backstab you, etc. A trustworthy bond for lifelong .
- most important, one can imagine the situation, place , people etc and can waft into this imaginary world , with imaginary characters that we created by reading the books and travel along with them . Sense what they did , feel what they felt , etc … goes on and on . That’s what a good book would do . Hard to keep it down.

Kalki’s novel made in to a film after seventy years. Jayamohan got the opportunity to write the screenplay and dialogue now. If the film was made 15 to 20 years back Other writers like Sujatha or Balakumaran would have been the choices for writing the screenplay and dialogues.

Not only for maniratnam but each and every fan of ponniyin selvan admire poonguzhali definitely! But Kalki did not handle her character properly! Such a strong woman like her won't marry a passive person like senthan amudhan at any cost! Instead of that he could have killed her for some valuable reason and he unnecessarily given important to manimekalai at the last chapter!
He is like an open book. Even his Mother’s suicide is public knowledge. I don’t know whether his father also had a suicidal death. When I knew about it I was shocked how he could bear it and move on and write high quality stuff

Kunthavai ku Trisha, Nandhini and Nandhini mom ku Aishwarya rai but for poongulali no one knows her in tamil industry. Enaku antha story la poongulali romba pidikum. So, not happy with casting for poongulali. But waiting to see the movie.
Nandinikku equivalent look ellaam illai. She is kind of a rustic beauty. I don’t like this actress either. But Maniratnam wanted nila athu vaanathu mele Kuyili dress poda oru actress.
