Heavy shout out to Barca, leap year feb. 2020, thannx for the extra L and his stories & knowledge. Best hiking & camping in my life so far.. Barca goes!!
Hi Nirma, I sure didn't plan for that kind of mud, but I guess that is what you get in December! so glad you did it and it was dry when you did. If you thought that was scary have a look at my BALANCE IN HOPE video... that will really make your knees wobble. Cheers from Vancouver and enjoy your day! ruclips.net/video/dcRlGUT1hTY/видео.html
Hi Nick, Actually I make a point of speaking with every person there to ensure they do not mind, and the flights are very short - like 7 minutes. I know most don't chat with everyone there, but I do and it is important to me. If someone felt it could bother them I would wait. The Crawlers ledge part was only heard by one person (the person in it) and the end point was 5 people as I recall all of whom were ok with it. I hope others will be polite and respectful to not marr the experience for others too. As a pro at this that is super important to me. Foolish or rude flyers can ruin it for everyone. It can happen everywhere and one bozo can ruin it big time. Even as a fully licensed pilot here in Vancouver, where I am permitted by air traffic control, and fully allowed in the airspace, I still chat with all those impacted. :-) . Cheers and thanks - Thanks for your comment too, and I hope you find others will be responsible too. :-)
@@williamjans This is great to hear, I didn't give you near enough credit. And seeing that you can relate to having a drone ruin an experience gives me confidence that you are making all the right decisions. I've never had a flyer ask if it would bother me (although, to be honest, I think I would politely say it's fine even though I would much rather not have the noise pollution). I remember a drone forcing me to leave a beach in Aptos and Hanalei, and an instagramer who interrupted a cultural ceremony at Nu'uanu Pali lookout to climb the wall and take selfie after selfie. One little shove and I could have made this world a better place. I appreciate you writing back, and clearly you are at the opposite end of the spectrum from these self absorbed narcissists. Keep doing what you're doing!
@@flentie Thanks amigo! I appreciate your kind words :-). I know it can be so annoying when people forget or ignore civilities. I would be put off too if my first encounter with a flying buzzing thing was by having that flying buzzing thing near me! ha ha. BTW I was flying over Burrard Street in Vancouver yesterday off of a 30 storey building! Fully permitted by Nav Can and Air traffic control, but so intense between buildings and in such a busy area. I will probably post some of that video here in a while. if you might feel like subscribing you will get alerted when that comes up. Thanks kindly if so. The Instagram @williamjans has a photo of the roof I worked from too... Cheers and enjoy your day in whatever city you are in!
Did in/out in a day. My luck, it was a wind-less clear day and scortching, so was a brutal hike coming back. A kid passed me running the trail in/out - said he did it weekly. Met way too many people carrying ridiculously big packs and heavy hiking boots - don't make that mistake. Some cute, friendly, but very hungry kittens at the midway gate. Bring some cat food! Took 4 hours in to Kalalau, leaving at first light. 1 hr at the beach. 7 hrs back as it got so hot. At least it wasn't muddy... If you want to camp, need a permit. Spots fill up many months in advance, so get one early, especially during peak season.
Super nice place Born and Raised on this island never leave this place don't recommend hiking in there anytime from November to February that's when we get lots of rain flash flooding and Trail becomes dangerous
Oh thanks so much Paka for noting that. I hope people see what you wrote since that can help both keep people safe and protect damage on the trails. THANKS!! or should I say MAHALO of course! (Shukran Ala Hostni Al Mohamela) that is my clumsy phonetic arabic for "thanks for your help" ;-)
Thank you so much for sharing this! My husband and I met you as you were hiking out and we were on our way in. Your video grasps the essence of the hike at that particular moment in time. It shows the hike so much better than any of our pictures! Mahalo!
Thanks so much for your kind words Cindy! I really appreciate that and am pleased you remembered my name well enough to look me up and find the video! Yay. so great. More to come as well from Oahu and West Coast of BC (which are remarkably wild). Cheers
I was going to do this hike with my new husband in 1991. We were married on Kauai so I dragged my big wedding dress for that day and we brought all of our hiking gear. We were hiking novices but I heard the Kalalau trail was beautiful so we were ready for it. Honestly, thank goodness, monsoon rains came and we decided to bag the hike and fly to Kailua Kona on the Big Island. We most likely packed too heavily and those narrow muddy trails would be out of our difficulty range. I love your video.
HI Sue! Thanks for the note and you have a great story. How fun if you got to the beach at the end and did photos in your wedding dress too ;-) You are right that is a very long hike to carry excess weight. Glad you enjoyed my video and hope you like the other ones I posted too. I am guessing you don't live in Canada, but the Sunshine Coast trail is a great hike if you find yourself intrigued by the great outdoors and a bit of adventure. Cheers! William
Oh thanks so very kindly. I appreciate the kind words and hope you like the other stuff that I have posted. The Balance in Hope one, might make your knees wobble a bit. :-) Cheers and thanks William
I walked this trail in 2012. I have no idea how I did this 🤣but this experience changed my life and my call for Kauai is getting louder - hopefully I can go next year ❤️🙏🏻
Congrats Tanja and I hope you get to go back to. It is certainly wonderful. Cheers and thanks for you interest in my videos. Much appreciated. Yahoo. Hope you like the Balance in Hope one too... or the new Ambuluwawa one from Sri Lanka in January. Best regards William in Vancouver
You will have a great time! It is not really that dangerous. Just be careful and heed warnings and you will be pretty darn safe I am sure. As a note too, in the video - when you see the looking down at my feet perspective - distortion of the lens makes it seem much steeper than it is. Other images in the video show the real pitch accurately but those couple can be deceiving. You still must be really careful there since a fall would likely be fatal (steep enough to slide all the way down) but again, be cautious and you'll have a great time. *Where are you from? Are you experienced with crazy terrain? I am from Vancouver where we have awesome mountains all over to climb and run. Cheers W
HI @@hardcoregaming2090 - since you got a kick out of that one... I just posted this which is even a bit more scary! Hope you like it. cheers William tinyurl.com/yd7vb9vl
Hi thanks for the note. it actually is not so dangerous if you are careful actually. My little slip had my heard racing though. I never slip like that! A good wake up call. Cheers from Vancouver
Hiking the Kalalau Trail was probably the most brutal and challenging yet utterly amazing and magical experience of my life. Mahalo for sharing this video!
This hike would be my definition of Hell on Earth. I couldn't make it, I would sit near the start and attempt to signal helicopters or die trying. If I did make it down, I would hunt down and kill every person responsible for my being up there. My knees were buckling sitting at my desk just watching. You think I'm afraid of heights? I went through something like that before in Hawaii when I was 16. One of the worst days of my life and I'm 55 now. I'll stay clear of muddy, slippery 20" wide paths on 175 ft. sheer cliffs, thank you. A man's got to know his limitations.
Oh my! Well I am glad you got to watch this then rather than do this! I thought it was good fun, but you are certainly right that a fear of heights could make this challenging. Hey, for a different kind of hike feel free to check out the Sunshine Coast trail ones I posted since you might find that fun too. Warning though it starts (sadly) with me breaking my ribs. otherwise good fun. Cheers and thanks kindly for subscribing if you did... If I can get to 1000 people I can hopefully get ad revenue back for my hard work. Thanks amigo and have a great day! William In Vancouver
Perhaps try and do the 2 mile hike to Hanakapiai Beach. That will give you lots of beauty and is very straightforward, especially if you skip the stream crossing. And you do not need a permit to hike there.
Ha! Hi Kathy! Thanks so much for your note. I am glad it "got you" a bit too. funny enough the editing of this got me all wobbly too. That is when I really got a look at what the heck I did. I was careful and safe, but did lose 2 nights sleep thinking of the WHAT IF's!! egads. Hope you like the INDIA videos that will be going up soon. I just got back home 2 days ago. Lots of editing to do! Cheers from Vancouver again :-)
I lived in Hanakopiai back in the 70s , built a bamboo house in the valley just before Hanakopiai. Could see the ocean from my bed . I could run most of the 2 miles in or out of Hanakopiai. Hiked into kalalau on a full moon once ? Hiked there many times . Would always hike out at red sky , when it was light enough to see the way up red hill an would be out in less than 4 hours . I build and fly drones now and think about filming the Na Pali . Awesome thanks for the flood of memories.
Hi Dan! Wow that is incredible. Lucky you. I had hoped to run the trail too, but didnt have the time (but maybe can go back, assuming I can keep fit enough, ha ha) best of luck to you and best of luck with your future travels! Thanks for the interest in my work. cheers from Vancouver
I just finished my first gps build . 7” quad . Matek F7 , Matek gps module, crossfire , runcam eagle plus a GoPro session . I’m only getting 9 minute flights just cruising but want to build a li ion 2p 4s , maybe get up to 15 minutes . Man when I think back , some of the end trail just before kalalau are scary . As you leave Hanakopiai you get to the huge rock on the right that you could walk behind and sit on the edge and look straight down into a tiny bay . That bay has a trail the Hawaiians made from Hanakopiai beach along the cliff just big enough for your bare feet . You wouldn’t know it’s there unless you walked it . Imagine it’s 1976 you just got out of the navy and your hitchhiking Kauai and this guy picks you up says there’s a nude beach 2 miles from the end of the road . I’m on that trail first time June of 76 . I get to the part where you can see Hanakopiai beach . Yep all naked with full body tans . I found paradise. Memories 30 years on Kauai .
Robin!! You are so kind and made my day. I put so much work into these and sadly (most of us) have lost the ability to make any passive revenue on them now. So your very kinds works and subscribing will be a wonderful consolation! Thanks and hopefully I can get to 1000 viewers and 4000 hours per month to get ad revenue again. Cheers and enjoy your day. Where is home for you? I am in Vancouver.
I am from Southern Indiana. I did the trail in March with my wife and 18 year old daughter. It was certainly an adventure we will never forget. I have done many exciting things in my life and the Kalalau Trail may be the most adventurous. Good luck in your future endeavors
Thanks kindly Robin. How kind of you. Thanks for subscribing too as I will be posting more crazy things soon. I hope you got to see some of the West Coast Trail hike that is in 7 parts and included a broken bone and grizzly issue too! Cheers and thanks again for your kindness :-)
Absolutely love this hike! We do it everytime we go to Kaui. We always go in and out in one day. If the ocean is calm and the sand isnt super washed out, we swim to Honopu beach. I've only done it twice because there are usually pretty scary long-shore currents that will make it impossible to get back if there is any sizable swell. Waves and currents on the Napali are no joke. We only do this in July or August so usually the trail is pretty dry and ocean isn't absolutely insane. The Kalalau trail and beach is literally my favorite place on earth. However, the squaters at Kalalau beach really piss me off. Im glad they are ticketing more. It is always fascinating how you start super lush and wet and it gets drier and vegetation changes the more westward you get.
Hi Jared! I hope all is well! I know this is not Hawaii, but I just posted something from my neck of the woods you may find fun. Let me know what you think. Made my knees wobble a bit. Cheers and thanks for helping me get people interested in this one too. Yahoo! tinyurl.com/yd7vb9vl
GREAT VIDEO!! Especially the Drone shot where you pull away from Crawlers Ledge to show how narrow that part of the trail is! I've worked 2 Summers in my youth in the Forest Service and part of our job was trail maintenance where we carried tools onto trails to clear them of brush and to smooth out the ground. I can't imagine doing any work on the Kalalau Trail!
Hi Alvin. thanks for the note and compliments on the drone footage. that was very challenging due to winds and the light conditions too. I am so glad you liked that. Congrats on your trail work too. Very cool contribution to the outdoors. awesome you! Thanks for subscribing too, and I hope you saw the "balance in hope" video I posted too... That is a bit more daunting than the Kalalau trail for sure. cheers and best regards from Vancouver
hi there! most of it is quite easy and nice... just wet and slippery, but the wide angle lens makes it look a bit more scrunchy that it would be if you were there! Cheers and keep safe. thanks for subscribing too. awesome!
My fiance and I are visiting Kauia soon and I am starting to research what we want to do. I came across a few Pinterest posts showing off this beautiful trail and couldn't wait to hike it! Shortly after finding out about the trail I came across some information that it is closed for a few months and I was really bummed we were going to miss out on such an amazing hike. Your video was so helpful in making me feel so much better about not being able to hike it because in reality, we are not mentally/physically prepared for this type of hike. This is much more dangerous than I was expecting from what I was reading. Thank you so much for the great footage and helping me stay excited for my trip!
Hi Kendra! Enjoy your travels there! Lovely area even if you don't go to the Napali coast. I also hiked in Wimea canyon and you might find that easier and pleasant. I camped down for a night too. good fun. thanks for your kind words and for subscribing if you did too. You might like some of the other hiking stuff on there too, but I know for now you are all immersed with KAUAI stuff! Yahoo for you and have a great trip!!! Wonderful! BTW where are you located? Cheers William in Vancouver
We did first two miles with my wife at the very begging of June 2013. It was super dry - we were covered in kind of red-ish dust. We would like to go back and do all 11 miles so I am watching Kalalau trails videos on YT - well saw all of them and yours is far the best! Thanks for sharing! Great work - you are outstanding youtuber!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that. feel free to subscribe if you like since I try to achieve that calibre on all. I have been posting most recently the amazing Sunshine Coast Trail that is spectacular in a different way... and it starts with me breaking my ribs in the first 30 minutes (on film too - out) and ends with a grizzly bear issue. Day 1 to 6 up so far. Perhaps it might be an adventure you might want to do too? I am not Sure where you are based but the west coast of canada (BC) has spectacular hiking. Where is home for you T LB? Thanks again and I sure appreciate your kind words.
Hello William, I am from Eastern Europe (Slovakia), but living in Dublin IRL. Sure thing I will check your other videos as well as your work is exceptional. BC - well never say never - my wife just told me recently that we have never been in Vancouver - so may be. We were in most of big East coast cities including that French cities. We were also in Banff and Calgary in 2009 and we enjoyed it very much. Yeah Canadian bears that is something which prevented our sleeping during camping - cannot wait to see your bear video :-)
Well done, you have travelled quite a bit. Great! I am lucky to host shows about absurd travels and perhaps you noticed that on the channel. Now working on new MOROCCO show :-) Cheers and thanks William
Cool video. I hiked it a few weeks ago and recognised many of the views you filmed. Just finished my own Hiking Hawaii video mini series. I like your commentary very much and drooled over the drone images.
Did this hike back October and it’s was amazing the Beauty of the scenery and the beach when we finally got their. Did tire me out but in all had a great time doing this trail. Hike in. Spent the night. Hikes out. Two day trip.
Wow that is great. So glad you went. I did four days and three nights as I recall and really am glad that had the extra time to drink in the experience. so glad you went! Now you can come up to BC and try our 180 km tough Sunshine Coast trail. I posted videos you can check too. I hope you like them . Cheers Mac wherever you are located. Best, William
It is a great hike and not as scary as it looks from that straight down perspective... the lens makes it look a bit wackier. it is still steep, but you'd be fine with careful footing. :-) Cheers!
Hello Erica! You are so kind, thanks for the support! I hope you saw the BALANCE IN HOPE one, since that will really freak you out! This Kauai hike is not so wild, it just looks steeper due to the wide angle lens... you can see the video before and after that shows the pitch. Thanks so much for your interest and subscribing too. Yahoo for you. Best from William in Vancouver.. where are you I wonder?
William Jans I’m from Edmonton. We love nature hikes and I fell in love with Hawaii ever since we visited. We went to Maui for our honeymoon and the Big Island for our ten year. Loved both islands but Big Island was my favorite. Kauai waterfalls and hikes also look amazing! We hope to visit in the Summer but we’ll see what happens..
@@ericaxoxo1619 Hi Erica from Edmonton! Wow awesome you! Glad you got to see so much of Hawaii... I still have not done Maui at all yet. Lucky you! Best of luck in getting back to that part of paradise when this covid thing lifts! By the way, Edmonton has been one of the spots I travel to to host my LIVE SHOWS about absurd travels. I am sure you would love them (I hope). If you go to my website (just google my name) you can easily subscribe to the list of people I will notify when I return, and I can promise you a great time I think.... If you look at the collection of shows, you will see some really lovely reviews from Edmonton folks who have loved the shows in past. Cheers and thanks from Vancouver (where it is raining of course. ha ha)
Hi Luke, not sure what you mean, but that is real and my heart really raced. I guess not that big a deal, but I broke into instant sweat knowing the worst case scenario. By the way, the drop is steep but that angle makes it look worse due to the lens on that shot. If you are thinking of going, it is better represented in the shot where I am talking about helicopters. *BTW - don't lean into the mountain by the way... Stay vertical. :-) Cheers and happy hiking. Check out the Sunshine Coast trail video(s) I posted if you like. Western Canada awesome wilderness. thanks :-) W
I have walked in and out, 3 times and hang glided off the Kalalau Lookout once. Story published in September 1978 HANG GLIDING Magazine colour centrefild. It's sad to see, so many signs along the Kalalau Beach. While in the Kalalau, for 17 days and nights, I met "Michael of the Wind" and he was headed to Jonestown, that summer. I do not know if he ever made it there. I HOPE NOT!! If you see a copy of the September 1978 HANG GLIDING magazine, that's Michael, standing at the base of the double rainbow.
wow, way to go on your achievement. well done. And as you said I certainly hope your friend did NOT make it to Jonestown. that would have been a horrible ending I am sure. Cheers and keep travelling. Best from William in Vancouver :-) *Thanks for subscribing too. I will hopefully be putting up the HAIKU stairs soon too and there are some other crazy hikes there too. Cheers!
Using my binoculars from the Waimea lookout, I saw a handful of folks doing the hike. It is a massive place. I didn't do it this visit to the island :( I did the highest trail, from the lookout to the Alakai swamp then camped near the start of the canyon. Life-changing. = One Love= -A
Hi there! Thanks of the note and glad you got to poke around! Sorry I don't know the name but is the ALAKAI swamp perhaps in the area called the wettest place on the planet? I have no idea so thought I would ask. Thanks Alejandro. BTW I have a new video (silly too) going up very soon. Thanks for subscribing if you are willing since that will merely alert you once when it is up. Cheers and thanks William in Vancouver
William Jans not sure about the nickname, I thought it was the whole Kauai, but sure is wet. Glad we were there in the dry season, mid-June, still it rained almost everyday on the island. Swamp was crater back in the day and one of the highest points, mosquitoes don't go up there so you're able to see unique birds & prehistoric plants endemic to the area, a time capsule with a trail going through! Thanks for taking the time, man, almost fainted at your tiny slip on the pass & my jaw dropped with your drone footy 👌 greetings from warm México, amigo. =One Love= -A
Gracias amigo! if this freaked you out, You might get a kick out of the Sunshine Coast trail video - where I broke my ribs in the first 30 minutes. On film too! Buenos Suerte Alejandro!
William Jans HAHAHA at least you're alive to tell the story. It can get pretty dangerous pretty quick on that Rock. Besides the expected scratches & mosquito bites, almost hacked my little toe off with a root climbing up the sleeping giant. =One Love= -A
I'm scared of heights, and I didn't really know about the crawlers ledge until the day of the hike. It was so terrifying that as soon as I was done, all I could think about is that I had to do it again when I came back. I can't believe I did the whole hike there and back. It was worth it to go at the time though, definitely once in a lifetime experience.
Wow Dianna! you should be so proud! That is awesome! Hey if you want to be "virtually" freaked out, have a look at my Balance in hope video. Man, this brings back some memories, I did it when I was 14 with a 45lbs bad going with a large group of my family. The last 2 miles both ways I was done lol but I finished quicker than 60% of the group so even though I had the heaviest bag and was the youngest I did pretty well. It was a lot of fun and I hope one day I can go back and do it again.
Awesome you! Well done and hope you get to go back as an adult to see what you think if it now. Greetings from India by the way! I will have some very wild stuff to post soon and hope you enjoy that as much as the KALALAU one and the crazy BALANCE IN HOPE one. cheers and thanks from William

Good Morning Freddy from Vancouver. So glad you got to do the waterfall! I didnt have time so you are one up on me. I hear it can be pretty muddy too! I guess I have to go back to do that, and you might have to go back to do the big hike ;-) Cheers and enjoy your long weekend.
I walked this trail when I was 5, the worst part for me was getting smacked in the face by Sand and whatever else because the wind was strong. I also remember thinking that the beaches were on the mountain like I poofed into a whole other world! #1 Note: Don't take Rocks from the mountain unless you are going to use them for a GOOD Purpose ON-ISLAND!
HI Kulia! Thanks kindly for the comment and wow way to go for doing that when you were five! Wow. Strong kid you! Best regards, thanks for sharing your experience and notes on the rocks too. Greetings from Sri Lanka! Best William Jans (vancouver)
The current condition of the trail determines it's danger. I've backpacked there three times. Twice the trail was in great condition, no problem. Once it was a total wash out in numerous places....traversing the wash outs was gnarly to say the least. God bless the trail workers who dial-in this awesome trail!
indeed. the trail workers there are amazing to be sure. I am lately really impressed with trail builders in North Vancouver, and some other folks up in Pender Harbour who do amazing stuff. Yahoo for all of us! Cheers and hap val day too!
I did the trail twice once in 1999 and again 2000 (1999 was for my y2k)… I somehow forgot how dangerous it was.. but I do remember falling in the beginning "easy section" and there were two trees, one for each hand. My legs were dangling off the cliff and I had to swivel them back rotating on my pelvis with a large pack. I guess I was the lucky one. Great perspective video photography! This video freaks me out more when I watch it now than recall the real thing in my mind, even with the fall.
Wow! that is a crazy story! Thanks for sharing that. Amazing that happened to you and glad you came out ok too. Keep safe out there! Thanks for your kind words Bhante, and thanks for subscribing if you did, that always helps. 1000 is the magic number it seems I need to get a tiny spot of ad revenue. Cheers and enjoy your day! Yes it is only one way in and the same way out, but it is not too hard to let people by. The one contentious area there is such that you can see if someone else would be crossing and most would likely wait to let them pass. Much safer. The Crawlers ledge part is on an outside curve, but I bet one side might not might backing up to keep it safe. Hope you have a great time if you get to go! Cheers William

I like being alive and will refrain from this hike and Angels Landing and a number of other hikes that I have viewed online and decided I do not need to attempt until it is time to die. Lol. Not today! I am from the flat coastal plain of southern Georgia and am uncomfortable with death defying cliff faces and narrow paths and creeks and rocks far far below with no guard rails to attach myself to with a steel cable or vast netting to fall into when I inevitably do just that! Lol.
HI there from Vancouver. I first read your note quickly and thought you said you WOULD prefer to do Angels Landing instead of this... which really piqued my interest since I want to do that too! I am from BC instead of flat coastal Georgia, so we have lots of bumps and humps despite being so close to the ocean. I think we all get used to steeper stuff out here I guess. Ha. Keep yourself safe and enjoy whatever adventures you get into! IF you might like, I posted the Sunshine Coast Trail Hike in 7 installments that you might find fun, and shows you what BC is really like in the bush! woo hoo! Cheers William Jans
oh I hope you get to do it. it is a beautiful adventure and not too scary if you keep cautious and aware. plus the perspective seems a bit more extreme In that wide angle looking down shot. Hope you get to go! BTW Hope you see my Balance in Hope video... that one is more terrifying when I watch it now! Thanks for your interest and thanks for subscribing Ekundayo!!
The hike looks relatively straight forward. I'd enjoy tackling it on a mountain bike. I haven't found any videos yet of folks doing this trail on a mountain bike. Maybe biking isn't popular in Hawaii, i'll keep searching....
Hi Jack, I get the sense that mountain biking either may not be allowed there, or might be really frowned on. I just get that sense. The mud since so dense at times could be impractical too (like when the dust at burning man gets wet and just sticks all over tires making them impossible to use, but who knows. I think there would be hassles from authorities and walkers alike. Cheers and hope you get to see this lovely part of the world even if on foot. It is great. BTW I like in Vancouver where in North Van, mt bikers and hikers have found ways to make it all work well. I trail run around that area too and most all cyclists are great. All fits well. cheers and enjoy your day! William. Thanks for suscribing too if you did. cheers
Having done this hike I recommend taking a big long bamboo walking stick, 8 feet at least, to help brace yourself on the narrow and steep parts. It's a beautiful part of the world, but the constant tour helicopters ruin the peace.
Well done Auston! Enjoy going back. I wonder if it has changed much? Can I guess from your name if you might be from Czechoslovakia? Just a shot in the dark. I am not good with eastern block accents or languages as yet, as my skills are more in Asian languages, but thought I would guess. Happy travels! Cheers from Vancouver :-)
@@auston911 Awesome!!! from the exotic land of Bellingham! Yahoo. we are just about neighbours! Cheers Auston and hope you bump into Hilary Swank - I heard she was Bellinghams most famous resident and grew up In a trailer park there. How cool is that. I am just back home 30 hours ago (after a 32 hour flight) from Kerala state in India. Wow videos to come!! Yahoo!

Thanks so much Jo Lyn! Glad you got to do it too and nothing was closed for you! Great stuff and thanks for the kind words. Thanks Tao! Much appreciated and thanks for subscribing. I hope you liked the BALANCE IN HOPE video which is even wilder. I have more to come from just getting back from Sri Lanka and india! yahoo. Wait till you see those! Where are you living? Cheers from William in Vancouver
Great video! I consider myself pretty adventurous, but that hike is way outta my league. Anything you recommend for the south side of Kauai that is along the lines of a 3 or 4 mile hike that isn’t so life threatening? 😀
Thanks so much Arnold. Much appreciated. I am in India right now and will be posting some wild stuff about ABULAWAWA tower in Sri Lanka, and THEYYAM in India soon, so I am sure the system will alert subscribers when that is up. I hope you like them too! BTW have a look at Balance in hope if you want to get freaked out a bit! Cheers, William Jans
I've done some Colorado mountain hiking. I don't mind a bit of exposure but that trail is ridiculous, especially in the mud. How stupid would it be to slip and fall to your death.
Indeed. I should clarify that the angle you see looking downwards does make it look more daunting. you can see on the shots from the end of the trail that it is no "so outrageous" but indeed is a place to be cautious. I have been surefooted all my life, but clearly had that millisecond of misstep that got my heart rate up. Cheers and happy hiking in Colorado. You might find the Sunshine Coast trail in BC (120 km north of Vancouver) to be a good adventure. I have videos on that if you might like to have a gander. Oddly you will really see a bit of bad luck re misstep there... (I swear my proprioception is normal pretty darn good!)
Wow lucky you to be moving there! You can always hike just a bit of it for the first beach and a lovely experience. Watch for the dangerous waters though. Cheers and thanks from Vancouver! :-)
After the April storms of 2018 I've been told this hike is even more taxing. Deaths every year, but perhaps that's the least note worthy thing. It might also be the more epic home in America, if a little too short to make an entire weekend of. I hope to do it eventually
wow I was not aware. I think most deaths are due to flash floods, but it certainly has a few challenges to be aware of. It is a wonderful hike in the US for sure and I certainly hope you do get to do it. If you want to see something even a bit scarier check out the one I posted from here in Canada (and not far from Vancouver) called "Balance in Hope" that will make your scphinter clench! oh la la. BTW Hope is where Stallone filmed Rambo. He loves shooting in Canada and did other films here including one of the Rocky ones too. Cheers and best regards William
10 most dangerous trails on the right day maybe the stream crossings they can get pretty bad the rest of the trail a walk in the park with some mud people don't drop off the cliffs they die in the water been going here for 30years your take on the trail a little to sensational I think
Hi Raymond and happy new year! Yes you are right the water is the biggest issue by far! I guess I could have been more clear about that, but those are exceptionally hard work to build to begin with and I am not always perfect. Some took issue with the sign I show at the end, but others did note that it says that is also related to flash floods. Thanks for checking it out and I am envious that sounds like the trail is in your backyard! Wow. Lucky you. Beautiful part of the world. Best for 2020 and hope you like the Sunshine Coast Trail videos I posted (that is in my backyard near Vancouver). Thanks for subscribing if you did too. best regards and happy New Years! William
hi there, that was the 3dr. a heavy one to carry.it takes lots of planning to make that work since power issues, weight etc. be prepared and careful if you do that. Copters seem to fly wisely but we had a fixed wing in way to look. Ouch! Cheers W
thanks so very much Kudret Bay! I really appreciate the kind words, that means a lot to me. Hope you like the newest Amubuluwawa video that just went up (from Sri Lanka) and also the Balance in Hope one that should really make your knees wobble. That is from Hope BC. near Vancouver. cheers nad hope you are healthy and Happy in these crazy Covid times!
Well done! Cheers and thanks for the interest. Hope you liked the crazy "Balance in Hope" one too. that is much scarier in my opinion... I dont get too nervous easily, but that had my spider senses tingling :-)
BTW. what was your time of travel for the 11 Mile hike. just wondering because I have permit for an August trek. I am 47 yo and some what fit. I regularly mountain bike 10.5 m in 3.5 hours. been training harder to get better.
Hi Mike, you should be fine. You could do the whole thing out in a day if desired, but I opted to do 2 days to get out and 2 days to get back to make it more leisurely and since I had quite a bit of weight. The midpoint is not as amazing for camping but was just fine and I really enjoyed myself doing ti that way. best of lukc. I fly to Morocco tomorrow so am sorting things away quickly. cheers
Hello Jack! Since you have asked so nicely. I looked it up for you... it is Hawaiian Cowboy by Sol K Bright and the Hollywaiians - -- you will be happily suprized. It is from between 1927 and 1938 so well past the 75 years and in public domain now. Cheers and please let me know if you get this, as I looked it up special for you :-) Thanks for subscribing too, as if I get to 1000 subscribers again I can get that tiny bit of revenue that trickles in. I work hard on these so hope it can happen. cheers amigo and Mahalo too from Vancouver

Me too! So lovely. Not sure where you live, but you might want to check out the Sunshine Coast trail north of vancouver. It is quite the wild adventure too! Not as warm as Kauai overall though. I posted videos on my channel to give you an idea. thanks for subscribing too if you did. cheers William!
Hey Will! I was wondering what you took with you in your bag. My husband and I would like to complete this hike in April 2019 and I'm wondering if we will need sleeping mats and sleeping bags with us or if it'll be warm enough to just sleep in the tent on the sand? If you are unable to answer these questions, might you have a person that you could refer me to? I would greatly appreciate all the tips! I've read a lot on various blogs but its always nice to communicate directly with a fellow hiker. Thanks in advance!
hi there! I was there in December so my tips might not be as useful. sleeping mat (thermarest) is always good and a thin bag might be fine methinks? I think if you do a bit of googling you will see there is a permit office that issues the permits and if you are able to call them I found them to be super nice on the phone. They are busy so keep your questions to the point and brief and I bet they will be super helpful. I also carry very few clothes and all gear and food (ha) so am not best to copy from. I go heavy it seems! Drone didn't help ;-) Best of luck from Vancouver. Mahalo!
HI Mario from Vancouver. Just back home from Norway and Iceland 48 hours ago :-) I think you would be fine with the kids personally, but if they are not sure footed the mud could cause for some clumsiness In my opinion. perhaps bigger than That is that they will have to want to do it. if they protest a lot may make it less fun perhaps. Best of luck and enjoy the vistas. William
Thanks for kind words and for subscribing. much appreciated. I am hoping to get to 1000 people to get the chance to earn a few pennies from ads for my hard work. Cheers. The trip is only out and back. the only way. you can run it if you are hardcore in a day, but hiking can be done 1 day out and back or 2 days out and 2 days back. I did that. slower more fun experience . Cheers and don't forget permits. they are nice folks to help too. Best regards, William Jans (Guildenstern) ;-0
Thanks kindly Michael! much gratitude :-) It is 6 am in Vancouver and I am off to run a 21.1 km race so fingers crossed that there is no rain this morning. Best regards!
dude, i'm blown away by the beautiful drone shots; spectacular! i've been there a couple of times and it's as beautiful as you described it. never had the perspective of a drone so many thanks for that! (what video camera was on the drone? GoPro?)
hi there! sorry I didn't this earlier. this was with the 3dr solo Drone. there are smaller and lighter now, but they are all cumbersome to use safely and well. thanks for your kind words and thanks for subscribing. I will be posting the SCT trail soon where (sadly) I broke my ribs in the first 30 minutes... on film! ouch, but a good watch. cheers !

Hi first time ever watching a video of you and its amazing! Are you Belgian or Dutch? You had a Belgian friend and your name seems kind of Dutch "Jansen". Greetz from Belgium
Hello Noa! You are so kind. I hope you saw some of the Sunshine Coast Trail videos too. I think you might like those as well perhaps. We even had a grizzly bear issue. My name is Dutch and sadly though I speak 11 languages, Dutch is not even one of them! so embarrassing! Also amusingly TONIGHT I have two people coming from Belgium to stay for a few days. How fun. Someone hikes miles in search of peace and serenity, and gets to listen to your drone...how wonderful.

Cheers

Best part is the free chickens. Got your wings right here.
Great video. Thanks for all the information and footage.
Hi JP thanks so much for the kind words and support too! Yahoo, cheers and happy travels. Thanks for subscribing :-)
Cheers! William
Incredible and scary. Very well captured with commentary. Big like is an understatement👍. Thanks for sharing and have a great day 😀.
WOW This is insane. I'm about to hike this in 3 weeks and I'm equally terrified of the trail as I am stoked to experience the beauty.
Cheers W
GET PERMITS TOO!! important as they can stop you from doing the hike without. You can do online
So , how was the hiking ?
R.I.P. you will be missed. 👼
HI @@hardcoregaming2090 - since you got a kick out of that one... I just posted this which is even a bit more scary! Hope you like it. cheers William tinyurl.com/yd7vb9vl
Chingau! 3:50-4 minutes...you guys are nuts! It doesn't even take a stumble to die, just some wet ground to give way.
So glad you got to do it too Holly! What great memories you must have too! I hope it was not so muddy for you! Mahalo!
And you do not need a permit to hike there.
that looks too scary for me
my hands sweat just from watching this video
Ha!
We did this hike 3 months ago. Wow what an adventure. This may be the best video of the trail I have seen. Thanks for putting it together.
Wow!! I'd never have got across those narrow, cliff-hugging trails.
Best trail on Kauai, but also the hardest one that I have done. Good views of the beach and shower.
Beautiful. . Im going to live here soon !!
“It may not look like much...” Yes it does. Thanks for posting this video so I can make the informed decision not to try this one.
hi there! most of it is quite easy and nice... just wet and slippery, but the wide angle lens makes it look a bit more scrunchy that it would be if you were there!
Thanks again and
I sure appreciate your kind words.
I'm on it right now (I mean on your videos not the trails - I hope I'll be there soon ^^ ).
Pretty cool, I even got the heeby jeebies on the cliff trail shots down to the surf.
It is a great hike and not as scary as it looks from that straight down perspective... the lens makes it look a bit wackier. it is still steep, but you'd be fine with careful footing. :-) Cheers!
You are pro. Great video! Too nerve wrecking for me!
Hello Erica! You are so kind, thanks for the support! I hope you saw the BALANCE IN HOPE one, since that will really freak you out!

Cheers!
wonderful trail! I hiked it in January 1992. How great Tho art indeed!

I did it when I was 36. Absolutely enjoyed myself. 😊
awesome adventure to be sure! Well done. I feel lucky to have been there too!
Using my binoculars from the Waimea lookout, I saw a handful of folks doing the hike. It is a massive place. I didn't do it this visit to the island :( I did the highest trail, from the lookout to the Alakai swamp then camped near the start of the canyon. Life-changing.

Ouch ouch! Be careful!!
Great work! Nice to see the drone survived it's dunking...
You might get a kick (or actually be totally freaked out) by the newest video I just put up about hiking on an old disused bridge that really will make your knees wobble! It is called Balance and Hope! Cheers amigo and I will go look at your stuff too! Thanks William in Vancouver

Just hiked to the first waterfall, wondered what the rest of the hike must have been. Not for me, but amazing! Thanks for sharing.

Is it one way only? I would hate to have another hiker coming the opposite way.

Nice footage and info ! But how were you able to respect the land and fly the drone in the state park legally ?
I'm wondering the same thing. 😬
William. Thanks for suscribing too if you did. cheers
Impossible, to do on a mountain bike, trust me on this one.
Having done this hike I recommend taking a big long bamboo walking stick, 8 feet at least, to help brace yourself on the narrow and steep parts. It's a beautiful part of the world, but the constant tour helicopters ruin the peace.

If you want to see something even a bit scarier check out the one I posted from here in Canada (and not far from Vancouver) called "Balance in Hope" that will make your scphinter clench! oh la la.
I fly to Morocco tomorrow so am sorting things away quickly. cheers

Drone didn't help ;-)
Best of luck from Vancouver. Mahalo!
Can you atleast do the 1st part of it with kids 10 years old and up or is it dangerous from the beginning near Ke'e beach?
HI Mario from Vancouver. Just back home from Norway and Iceland 48 hours ago :-) I think you would be fine with the kids personally, but if they are not sure footed the mud could cause for some clumsiness In my opinion. perhaps bigger than That is that they will have to want to do it. if they protest a lot may make it less fun perhaps.
