Love this episode! I live in MN and often sail in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. My wife and I are looking to buy a 40-45 sailboat in the next couple years but are not sure where we will keep it yet. I have entertained buying one on on a different great lake and sailing it up to Superior, so this episode was very relevant. We have also debated buying down in FL and keeping it down there and sailing there in the winters only. Similar to Peter, we are also trying to decide how much blue water capability we will need. I will be taking ASA 108 to Bermuda in May and hope that experience will allow me to nail down the type of boat I need a little better. So, this episode gave me a lot to think about! Appreciate the show very much!
Thank you for the nice comments. It is always wonderful to hear from our listeners. I am sure you ASA 108 will give you valuable information on the type of boat you want. I can also suggest, if possible, charter a few models that are on your short list. You can usually find almost any make/model to charter if you search a bit. We discovered a few things we thought were important - were not, and visa versa.
