Seow Yong He is pitiful. Having a legally-trained mind doesn't make him a better person. He harms those around him,even people who love/care for him. In order for Pei Chee to be unable to recognise the way to the rural retirement/nursing home he had secretly put his mom in he drugged Pei Chee's coffee so that she would be knocked out during the journey. He did not want Pei Chee to tell Xiaoru how to get there since he was afraid his mom would tell Xiaoru about his evil deeds. P/s I think he contacted the retirement owner to drug his mother so she would go into a deep sleep during Pei Chee's visit and his mom would not be able to tell Pei Chee her suspicions about him.
If you look around you will notice that generally it's people with little education who commit gangster stuff. You must have heard the saying "A little learning is a dangerous thing"? I guess you not only learn more social conscience the better educated you are,you would most probably earn a good living and live well. Would a person who lives a good life have the inclination to commit gangster acts???
