    This one is a little bit longer, but a bunch of people have been asking for a windows install demo and I decided it was time for me to give it a try. Hope you like, planning on habPanel, but let me know what you would like to see next!

    Finally someone who explains it like a human being and not like we've all taken classes at MIT. My next issue is creating those sitemaps thing and I get so frustrated when people say "just create a sitemap"... Wow genius, do you think I'd be here if I knew how to do that?
    I can't wait to get to the actual automation and get millions of anger moments from having to learn how to do it by creating text files or whatever I have to do. This is why so many people are reserved on taking on these services unfortunately. Thank you for making these videos and for making it easier for us newbies wanting to get started with OpenHab!
    I subbed.

    Great video - real help. The question I have is about how to set up the Microsoft Visual Studio extension for openHAB. (I have it installed, but while most of it works, the things and items discovery and the interface do not seem to work. A quick walk-through video would be a help - all the ones I can find relate to the Raspberry Pi remote access setup. I think some of the settings need adjusting if you are editing on the same machine as you are hosting on. ) Cheers.

    Nice video, easy to follow. One problem , Zulu consummes sometimes more than 90% of the processor and pc is getting slower and slower

    Great video again. Found your site yesterday and have watched many of your videos already. I have just purchased and new house and starting the journey of automation. First step for me to get a front door lock. Looking at the (Schlage Z-Wave Connect Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt). So I will need an z-wave antenna. I believe my the installed liftmaster garage door will link to wifi but not sure to what extent. would love to automate this with geo-zone. I have a spar windows pc running plex server connected to HDHomerun (love this). I plan to install openhab2 on this PC. Wondering what the range of the (Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5).

      @yoyoTechKnows  5 лет назад +1

      Sounds like you have some big plans! I started the same when we moved in here. Lock is a good start, I also use the Schlage, and I am looking am trying a lockly (amzn.to/2P62nir) right now but I am not sure how it will work with openHAB. Garage door should be fairly simple to control (if the hub is built into your opener, but may need to add the sensor (amzn.to/2P24Pq8)! Zwave range is amplified with each device you add, so they become repeaters of the mesh network. My Zwave network can reach farther than my wifi right now! :-) The Aeotec is the best device I have used (amzn.to/2DKF5N0).
      Good luck and have fun. Let me know if you have any questions!

    I enjoy your videos. I have no computer background but enjoy your explanations. I'm exploring what things i might want for home automation. I am contemplating a NAS. Will a Google home mini or comparable devices pull things from a NAS if i had one?

    • @yoyoTechKnows
      @yoyoTechKnows  5 лет назад

      Hi Angela, thanks for watching. A NAS is great for backup and can run some home automation processes, but it can be a complex way to start!.. I think your google home mini is a good place to start, then you could look at openHAB, Hubitat or smartthings etc to pull it all together.
      New videos coming soon, so don't forget to subscribe!
      Thanks
      Bill

  • @JorgeRzezak
    @JorgeRzezak 5 лет назад

    You are doing a very nice job!
    In the meantime before trying openHAB I will buy some stuff z-wave and I'd like to know what is your recommendation for a USB stick which I'm planning to run in a Raspberry Pi 3 B+.
    Do you know something about: UZB Z-Wave Plus USB Stick, I found it at a good price and complies with z-wave plus.

    One question, if I install openHAB on a usb will it be corrupted as the sd does due to a constant power failures

    So, OpenHAB still usese Java 8 in 2019?? Wow... "Java will never bother you again" ??? Really? How about the reason for upgrading it, like... hmmm.. Maby SECURITY?
    I'm really feeling like OpenHAB is not the way to go when it depends on Java, even Oracle is trying to get ridd of it.... And that is saying some...

    I will tell you I found something your setup did mine didn't as well (from your last video. ) The control panel for me didn't autopopulate and I figured out that is because in the standard mode at least in my install was turned off by default.

      @@yoyoTechKnows Don't know why, but me too... in PAPER UI, things were added (only Sonos, Lifx, since all of my other devices are Z-Wave e.g. GE switches, ST sensors etc) BUT NO "CONTROLs." ALSO, I subscribed awhile back and am NOT getting notified of any of your videos

    • @yoyoTechKnows

      Hi Nazz, Sonos and LIFX are automatic, but for zwave you need to manually add your controller (amzn.to/2QfSkfS) first. To do this just go to inbox, choose search, choose z-wave and it will show you a list of what you can add. Select controller, and try the default ports. (you may need to try this a couple times to get the right port on your computer) . Once you add the z-wave controller, openHAB will know how to talk to z-wave devices and find them all. Check out this video for demo ruclips.net/video/R2T5Mg3RLq0/видео.html

      @@yoyoTechKnows THANK YOU. But my REAL 1st problem is that I am NOT getting any CONTROLS populated, even for the LIFX or SONOS. Sorry I was not clear. I 'm sure?? that I need to correct this before your next video on the HabPanel... can't wait. Any advise??

  • @nazz7303
    @nazz7303 5 лет назад

    again, PLEASE I do not populate CONTROLS in openhab. Yes, I add Lifx and Sonos as things, put into inBox, but no automatic controls created. I have install per video & documentation 3 times. Only difference is the "system variable" in the video vs in the Docs. My version matched the video (zulu8... not java\jdk 1.8.0 as in the docs) In the file folder, I do not see any updated to files either. Does this mean anything?? Please help, I won't be able to try rules or habPanel until I get past this issue. Thx

      Hi There, not sure why its not working for you. Check out this page (www.openhab.org/docs/tutorial/configuration.html) , try checking if the links for your things are being created. You can turn on/off simple mode and see if that helps. If openHAB starts it should have nothing to do with your path!

    Well, I start with it now and there is no MSI installer any more....a yihaa for progression...yes....only a zip file. so things ar not that cosy any more....I unzip the zip put it in the Programs dir. then set te variables run the version test and....y...no. and again the fight start again against bad organised open source. nice

    Maybe you can answer a question for me. I installed openhab but I can't access the localhost page. I turned off the firewall to see if that helps and it didn't. IIS is running. What am I missing? The log:tail stays red when I type it in, if that information helps. This is on a Server 2016 machine. Thanks!

      Hi James, not my first pick either, but the great thing about openHAB is that it works on almost anything! Old windows machines are easier to come by so I guess its a popular option for many. Thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe!
