  • In Transformers, Megatron is the ultimate bad guy. Leader of the evil Decepticons, enemy to all Autobots, and his ultimate ambition is to conquer the universe. The Classics version of Megatron, released in 2006, was an homage to his original Generation One form. In this new series, the Megatron Files, Captain Kyle examines various versions of Megatron, starting with reviewing the Classics Megatron and two more uses of the mold.
When the Classics Megatron was released in 2006, it was a popular toy as we finally had a Megatron that became a gun, albeit a Nerf-style gun. Along with many reimagined versions of G1 characters, Megatron helped rejuvenate interest in the original releases. Captain Kyle examines the Classics version of Megatron, then checks out the Heikei version and the One Shall Stand, One Shall Fall Platinum edition.

I remember the Toy Fare ads for this toy. This was THE Megatron of my childhood. They made many in the 2000s, but Classics lead the platoon into many backyard battles.

Some years in between the Henkei and the Red barrel one there was the UN-01 UNITED 1 that was even MORE G-1 based than the Henkei. That thing was a work of art, damn I kind of regret giving it away...

The United one is great. Best use of the mold.

I swapped parts between the United and Japanese Henkei versions to make the ultimate version. I then painted the red parts on the Henkei version dark blue to turn him into Megastorm (the G2 clone of Megatron).

My megatron has a orange tip, not yellow. I was super happy when it came out and bought one. I would loved the japanese one too.

I never got the Classics version due to the paint scheme, I went directly to the Henkei version because to me it was a modernized G1. Though to me this Megatron never looked like a Futuristic Gun, nor a Nerf Blaster, but mostly like a Taser. And it would make sense because if he did mass shifting like in G1, he could hide in Law Enforcement or even Security guards.

I had the Classics Megatron, and while it was a cool figure, largely because it was a gun again (further proving that Hasbro CAN, in fact, produce a GUN MODE MEGATRON, regardless of whether it's realistic or Nerf style...!), it was just great having a modern articulated version of the G1 character again. Personally, I always thought the first release version was more reminiscent of Galvatron than Megatron, but cool nonetheless!
A little later on, I managed to find either a KO of the Henkei version or the United version, but whether it is a KO or not, I don't care, because it looked so much more like his original figure, standing next to that Classics Optimus Prime (WITH the freaking amazing G3 TRAILER that was designed especially for that Prime, since Hasbro cheaped out on us...!)
I later sold the first version Nerfatron and kept the more G1 looking "Hen-KO" (?) Version as well as the Optimus Prime figure, which is currently displayed inside the box with the G3 Trailer... Additionally, I managed to find a freaking amazing deal on the Protector Armor set and other various upgrades for the Classics HotRod to become Rodimus Prime, which I also still have in my collection.
If you happen to have either of those sets, PLEASE, do a video on those, and the City Commander Armor with Magnus, and the Make Toys G2 Battle Tanker for the G2 style Optimus Prime... IF you have them, obviously.

That transparent plastic lends itself to Shockwave treatment. It would be nice to see one with electronic lights and sounds like G1 Shockwave. Especially the first version you showed with the little green window on the side. It's a fun future gun design, almost like a tekwar pulse pistol if it had a cylinder. Or a bladerunner gun evolved. The silver one with the red accents is the colour I like best with that purple for the Decepticon symbol on the scope.

The United deco is the one to get. Sadly he goes for like a hundred bucks on Ebay!

I always thought that turning into a fun made Megatron weak because he needed someone else to fire him; if he didn't have anybody then he was done for!!!

As long as there's no tank mode - I'm all in - what this Megatron would be kool at would be to star in Marvel Cartoons - ie he looks like one of those guns say Kingpings' Henchmen would use to fire !

The alt mode of course is a NERF gun, but even the NERF gun might be based on the real life Mateba MTR-8 revolver ( 8 shot in Cal 38 special ) . Mateba was A 1950s Italian gun company.
I understand the G1 toy gun nostalgia for Megatron , but a LARP toy never matched the vehicle transformers i.e. the Car Robots and Jet robots. All the Microchange transformers don't fit with the Diaclone vehicle transformers. Megatron's best Alt -mode ( a G1 styled Megatron) is Animated Helicopter Megatron.
