  • In my mission to keep local legends alive via AI filmmaking, I came across one that has kept people fascinated for centuries:
    The Monster of Loch Ness.
The Loch Ness lake, nestled in the Scottish Highlands, is world-renowned for its enigmatic resident, the Monster of Loch Ness - also known as 'Nessie'.
This legend - dating back to the 6th century - is more than just a tale of a mysterious creature. It has become a profound, cultural symbol of a country.
    Right as it should.
The beautiful Scottish region, steeped in tales of powerful clans, old castles, and supernatural encounters, continues to captivate.
    That's why I created this post ;)
While doing so, I found it’s not just the legend of Nessie that draws visitors in-it’s the entire cultural landscape.
    Worldbuilding at its finest.
The village of Drumnadrochit is a hub for Nessie hunters located on the shore of the Loch. It is surrounded by stunning glens-Glen Urquhart, Glen Moriston, and the Great Glen.
I was there in 1992 and remember the visit to the lake vividly.
At first, because I was hoping to see a monster.
While doing research, I called my dad, who told me that we visited a castle with a massive beartrap while passing through to Iverness.
I noted that down for a scene.
You see, folklore is a remix of reality x imagination.
So it's interesting to study sightings that have taken place at the lake for centuries.
They date back to the year 565 AD.
Since then, apparently, thousands of people have seen the monster.
In 1933, the Spicers’ couple claimed to have seen a creature crossing the road and diving into the loch.
The same year, more sightings followed, including Arthur Grant's near-collision with the beast and Margaret Munro's 20-minute observation.
Not to forget the “Surgeon’s Photo” of 1934, showing a picture of Nessie.
The thrill of the hunt and the allure of the unknown continues to draw us in.
To me, that's reasons enough to keep the legend alive through AI filmmaking:
    - it brings mythical creatures to life,
    - it comes with unlimited interpretations,
    - it sets stories in rich narrative landscapes,
    - it visualizes misty lochs and old ruins,
    - it gives supernatural meaning to natural environments.
Time to discover the true legend of Nessie.
    'The legend of Loch Ness'.
    coming soon.
