In the Kazakh🇰🇿 culture the firstborn son is raised by the grandparents. His grandmother was among the first people around Dimash to note his love for music. She tells of how his favorite toys were cassettes that he played everywhere he went, even to bed and in school. 👉This song is Dimash’s visiting card. That is the song of the songs for Dimash and us, his Dears (That is what Dimash calls us fans.)
The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and in 2017 made Dimash a mega-star overnight.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned in Chinese characters: ⭐Di - achievement ⭐Ma - precious stone ⭐Shi - dream, wish. The Chinese Dears also call him 'imported little big brother'.
The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won).
A few months later Dimash sang this song here, as a guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the competition 'Slavic Bazaar 2018'. The International Arts Festival “Slavianski Bazaar“ is an annual festival held in Vitebsk, Belarus since 1992. Its main program is devoted to Slavic music (also a Competition).

✴ In January 2021 Dimash was one of the few foreigners who has been asked to attend the live online show marking the inauguration of the President of U.S.A. Joe Biden. He is here as a representative of his country Kazakhstan and he is also here for his Dears from all over the world. This is the first time in the 67-year history of the Sister Cities and the first time since relations between the United States and Kazakhstan began (almost 30 years ago) that an artist from Kazakhstan has attended such an event.

Dimash Qudaibergen was born on May 24, 1994, in Aktobe, Kazakhstan into musical royalty. Height: 1.91m; 6' 3'. Grandfather played professional dombra, grandmother was a teacher and sings.
His parents are Kanat Aitbayev and Svetlana Aitbayeva. They have long been known among the people of Kazakhstan and were awarded the title of Honored Music Artist of Kazakhstan: ruclips.net/video/-Hhi1x4LqpE/видео.html
According to Kazakh tradition, he was raised by his grandparents (Mama and Papa) and for a long time he kept his parents as his brother ans sister in law. They all live together in one house.
Dimash said: “Open my heart, you will find music. If you open my brain you will find music. Music is my life."
He has been training in music since he was 5 years old, has a perfect pitch. He is university-educated with degrees in classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. Dimash also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition. He graduated with honors’. He has composed 12 of his own songs so far and is currently working on his doctorate. We have to call him soon Doctor Dimash Qudaibergen. 😃
Dimash did not fit the traditional image of a singer in Kazakhstan and was criticized. In 2016, Dimash turned down the offer of the National Opera in Astana because he wanted to go his own way ... He created his own genre: neoclassical combined with classical, folklore and other styles such as pop, rock, R&B and jazz. We laypeople say 'Popera'. 😃
Dimash is independent and has full artistic control over himself. He founded his own company named Dimash Ali.
In 2017, Dimash surprised everyone in China. He opened the eyes of his critical compatriots. Today Dimash is a 'cultural ambassador' for his country and a 'national treasure' (not an official title). He himself is a proud Kazakh and patriot.
Dimash plays at least 7 instruments, traditional dombra is a must in his family. He speaks Kazakh (mother tongue) and Russian (without accent, second language in Kazakhstan), is learning English and Mandarin. He says dancing and Mandarin are difficult for him. So far, he sings in 13 languages. He trains his voice for 3 hours every day, ..but Dimash said: "You don't need to know how hard I've worked, you just need to enjoy the results".
Experts consider Dimash to be a lyrical baritone with a typically long range. Dimash says of himself that he is a tenor. Some believe that he does not sing his high notes as a countertenor but as a natural soprano. He is the first singer to sing all 5 voices: bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, soprano.

Dimash's 'heavenly' vocal abilities, from bass to coloratura soprano, are not just limited to the tremendous range of over seven octaves and mixing of all musical genres, but it is the incredible command of his instrument, his voice and the emotional touch of people ... that brings us back again and again fascinates and surprises and again ... Dimash always wanted to be on stage. As a young boy (3ys), he would often sit in the audience at his parents' performances and run on stage when they bowed at the end, and he would do the same.
In his childhood Dimash trained Taekwondo. A Dear gave him knee pads, but he says he's so deep into his songs that he doesn't feel any pain. 😃 Dimash looks good, is one of the 100 most beautiful men in the world and a model coveted around the world.

He was definitely handled correctly on the world's best but the came down to three people him and two other contestants they were children the little girl was also from his home country.. he's perform for Royalty, Kings .. ect.. and didn't want to take away from or discourage the young talent coming up behind him. So he bowed out of the competition
We are fully aware that there are simply not enough superlatives in the English language to describe the unnaturally natural talents Dimash has. We need a new word as expressive and and unique as he is, that may only apply to him alone!

Dimash competed at this same festival in 2015 with three songs, including SOS and he also won then. The day he had to sing that song he was sick. Don't worry there are always multiple versions, recommend always putting full title and part of the image in screenshot every time.
As a viewer/listener I also have preferred versions for every singer's performances, and some not so where the singer was sick, or simply the audio/video quality isn't good enough. Those I skip too.

LOL. I still like the 2017 Chinese contest version best only because it was the one that put him on the map. His voice has matured so much over the years, and that version isn’t quite as robust, but it’s fun to see the looks on people’s faces as he sings. You have to feel for the singers who had to go on after him (they look downright queasy). LOL. But yeah, in terms of versions (that you can actually show-after 2021 you have to obscure the video or his production company will jump down your throat) that showcase his voice the best, this is probably the one. He sings SOS a lot because it’s challenging, but because of that, some concert versions are a little wobbly (maybe his voice is tired or he has a cold-to his credit he still sounds great but once you know the song you can see where he changes it to accommodate, or where he struggles a bit to hit a note. Even then, it just shows he’s pretty exceptional in terms of knowing his limits that day and working around them so the song sounds great for his audience. Anyway, there’s a lot more to come-you’re definitely down the rabbit hole. Great reaction!
Thanks for the redo. The first was the absolute worst - but there are many golden versions out there. Do check for the most recent ones (Sister Cities International is a great one, and 2 years old) to hear how he changes. No two performances are alike. Listening to Stranger is another great way hear how gloriously his voice is developing.
Dear Uncle this was not your fault from myself a dear, it was RunPaul that Blessed Dimash out right on stage. It wasn’t Dimashs fault either because they had agreed not to put children against him. Ru Paul is about money. This was not his first show he controlled. I think he was one of the three judges at the front. When Dimash backed out Ru Paul knew that meant advertising dollars lost on a star like Dimash. Ru saw money leaving his hand. The prize was 1 million dollars. Dimash has never been about money. Barbara Streisand charged $2,000 a ticket for one of her shows. While I was recovering from 5 surgeries I found Dimash. Dimash had a live digital show for 2 hrs. He charged me $10.00 and TIXR got $2.00. What artist would do that? You’re a dear now because you bent over backwards to correct something that that show messed up and left it out there to hurt Dimash. Dimash has I think only been to America one time and that show. If any thing America needs Dimash for our music industry. You just don’t know because you’re knew how powerful Dimash as an icon in music. Dimash is a maestro vocalist in his doctorate phd. Japanese became his 15th language he sings in about a month ago. When I heard the song “Ikanaide” I went right to wikipedia to see if they had corrected his bio and they had.
