- FINALLY DONE WITH THE STORY MODE! This is my first taste on Hard Mode Combat Sim so I'm sorry for the sloppy execution. I hope this video can be useful to speedrunners, you guys can definitely optimize this better if you manage on not getting hit. Just don't get greedy like me lol.
I overlayed my build in between the loading screen to not waste your time, just pause if you wanna see it.
Let me know if you guys want an in depth guide on how to deal with each of these monsters. Speaking of which, fcuk earsplitting howl, fcuk concentration, fcuk earthly render and fcuk graviga for not being unescapable!

This whole fight sequence is about using Cloud's Punisher and Prime mode blocks with precision. Used a lot of this loadout and essentially it boiled down to praying you hit block at the right time. Great video!
Thank you for this! Yes you are correct. Basically it’s a glass cannon build, I intend on doing a no damage run (which I clearly failed lol) so defensive materia is not really needed. The main focus is when to counter the enemy attack. Just need to substitute the word from praying to practice, then you are golden! 😉
THANK YOU for that wolf part. Most other guides I’ve seen always say limit break through the howl but a lot of them already have gotterdamerung and use it in the challenge so I couldn’t keep up

@th3mush That reminds me how, for like 2 months, most strategies for the final VR challenge in Remake involved already having the Gotterdamerung.
That’s just lazy guides in my opinion. Not trying to flak the creators of that strategy because it is viable but come on, gotterdamerung is the endgame reward, that’s why it’s cheesy going through the previous challenges using that.
That is the prize for thr last brutal challenge which most people did first. They are objectively overtuned but 3 characters with malleable builds is infinitely more fair than any of the legendary bouts

Good stuff. The key to most difficult fights is learning how to block/counter in punisher mode. Assess tells us how to pressure them, it's just executing.

The first bump is white terror, gotta parry
The final bump is IronClad, the key is to keep running around him. Condemnation will miss, Thanatos Blade as well, but Thanatos Blade [Comes after Sharpen] has a small AOE around him.
Fire + Elemental Materia on Bracer, Lightning + Elemental on Weapon

Cloud fighting like this is literally the most frightening and strongest character in ff7 prior to Dirge of Cerberus. Imagine he was evil with this level of skill
Imagine he is like this when hitting aerith in the og, who could stop him from his party? Luckily in rebirth we dont have that scene though
Some tips I learned while doing this. (I’m not as good as the video)
First fight, just hold square then when they’re gathered use thundaga. I used speed demon keychain so I didn’t need to Atb boost.
Fight 2. His attack intervals are shorter in the beginning, so you might only get one attack in before countering. I usually hold square then get into punished asap. Everytime he does the red claw thing attack, counter and hit with braver. When he’s pressured, be more aggressive, staying close seems to stop him from using his bind or makes it miss as long as you’re in punisher jumping around like a lunatic. Stagger him asap. Prime mode, hold square, braver, prime combo again. If he survives stagger just keep doing the same thing and he will die.
3rd fight. I usually boost, then. Sonic boom, but dodge to the side and move to the rear before doing the plasma discharge. Then just keep dodging and pressing square, ignore his shielding, when he uses concentrate, use thundaga. If you did a good job after thundaga you can stagger. Then prime combo, braver, prime combo, usually finishes it.
4th fight. Sonic boom and plasma discharage, but watch out for his golden shower attack. Keep smacking him, when he does his purple Aizen sword, you can time a prime combo, when he’s pressured, go ham with focus thrust. He’ll golden shower once he’s pressured but keep throwing ranged attacks or go in with focus thrust. Usually at this point he’ll cast some shield on himself. You want to stagger him before that happens or he’ll start throwing multiple death scythe things and it’s hard to dodge. Once he’s staggered, if prime combo+braver sequence doesn’t kill him, finish him with thundaga.
5th fight. This was pretty tough for me. The key thing for me was keeping a safe distance, going in for attack, and then dodging his arm swing, which goes back pretty far. I use his magic casting as window for big attacks, thundaga as soon as you see him sharpen then whack him some more before getting out of the way. Going too far when he’s sharpened seems to result in getting hit with Thanatos blade or gravity, so I kept medium distance, if he’s not sharpened, sometimes I would run away hoping he uses firaga. I wish I could have practiced against him more but having to fight the other 3 before getting to him made it pretty draining.

Hey man, that is a really comprehensive guide! Thank you for that. Have you ever had any success on blocking the attacks from the 4th fight? I realised i’ve never blocked any of his attacks lol
@@th3mush I did block the slow purple homing balls, but afterwards, I think it’s pretty easy to dodge, so not really worth it to block. I think maybe it’s best to just dodge it the way you did. Sometimes I would block it just to get it out of the way, it doesn’t about 300-400dmg.
I also thought if the range is right, you could probably get close enough for it to explode, and then just hold square to dash up and smash the eyeball while dodging at the same time.
For his melee attack, it’s probably blockable, if you can perfect block maybe it’s worth it, for countering, I’m not sure because of the mist that comes down after the melee attack. The golden shower might be worth countering… the purple sword rain does too much damage.
I might go back to the fight and play around with it some more after I get platinum.
How did you pull off that jump move around the 2:23 mark?
If you’re in prime mode, simply switch back to operator mode. Don’t quote me on this though cuz it doesn’t happen everytime i do it lol
@@th3mushI’ll give it a shot, I couldn’t tell if the attack you did before that leap up was a regular attack or the switch attack but that’s crazy how it can give you that much air. I thought maybe you had to dodge right after or do some other special input

Yeah it is. There are 3 enemy skills that i frequently used. Mind blast, sonic boom and plasma discharge. Its got so much utility, you don't want to miss it!

How do you get a perfect block while you’re holding down block ? Are you just releasing and quickly hitting block button again?
I didn’t hold the block, either just switch to punisher mode or tap the block button alternately

I think you could use another accessory. You only used limit break once and the wolf wasn’t the hardest by far to count on it. Genji gloves would have helped you several times here.
Also you could potentially sacrifice subversion, fire and ice + elemental resistance as well. The only case it was useful is against Rhino’s firaga which can be easily prevented by an attack ability. That could give way for time, darkside, hp up or rerise, for instance.

I got pass the wolf but I have no mana left when I came to fight the rhino. Your run might look easy but this requires practice and timing when initiating the Prime Mode, Kudos
This method doesn’t require you to cast any magic to the wolf, so you can conserve your mp for irasceros and ironLAD later

when i finished this i was actually defensive most of the time and the wolf part i kept relying on counter until he was staggered
hawling part i was able to counter it with ultimate, but it wasn't gatterdamrung of course, when u keep countering in punisher mode ur gauge will always be filled before hawling part
Defense is only reliable if you are planning to get hit. So why not be a glass cannon and go full ham on the offensive? There’s not a reason not to.. lol

with mp absorb, i think it can work but i have never linked mp absorb on enemy skill materia so don't trust me on that until you've tried it yourself. That'll be pretty broken if its true though

Weapon level increases after certain parts of the story. Also, don’t forget about weapon manuscripts!

Punisher Block braver to pressure The White Terror

What the what? I mean I’ll certainly give that a try. I’m just baffled that you did that so easily. I finally got a strategy to work based off a couple videos out there and with my own touch as well but I had about the same stats and some of those has HP to last forever it seemed like. Must be the Faith/Bravery from the Sonic Boom?
Faith & bravery only buff your physical & magical attack. Without enemy skill this can still be done, albeit less effective. Just the matter of what to counter & when (& how).
@@th3mush I just hadn’t ever played around with the offensive buffs before, just heavily realized on Barrier Materia in the past. This game is a completely different animal compared to Remake than I ever thought possible.

Any weapon would do. Just take note on what abilities i used when retaliating to certain attacks. Like that wolf at the 2nd round, he never released the earsplitting howl move for a reason
@@th3mush i hated White Terror. It feels like his energy charge rate speeds up as his level gets higher on top of the amount of punishment needed to dispel that energy. I basically had to abuse stop to get rid of it fast enough

@@markmadden414 white terror only uses the howl when he fully charges up (he is close to full charge when the energy cloak he has goes red) you really don't want that happening as it hit stupidly hard and sends a barrage of non-elemental attacks flying at your party that can leave you dead or near enough (they look like fire but are not actually fire element)
How do you do the move where the sword plants, then cloud does a flip and brings the sword back down with a flip again
It’s an ability called prime mode. You get it with the umbral sword (purple looking sword)

Bullshit enemy needs a no bullshit guide. I’m cooking one up right now.
One secret cheat for White Terror: when they get their orange aura, cast Sleep on them, and their "countdown" to their ultimate attack will fully reset. They seem to become immune to sleep after being hit by it 3 times, so don't skimp on offense.

I don’t get how you can cause a pressure with one braver on the wolf. I’ll do 5 in a row and nothing. An inifinitys end and finishing touch won’t even cause it
U wanna do it AFTER it performs spin swipe. If u do it after it’s regular attacks, it can be pretty inconsistent.
@@th3mush I spam braver every time after I pblock or counter and it hits, but still won’t ever pressure. Eventually beat the challenge without it just by lb cheesing which I wanted to avoid doing 🫠 thanks though for all the tips!

No I didn’t. I overlayed the menu sequence on top of the loading screen as a B roll. This is to prevent someone from skipping the vid a few seconds cuz thats bad for YT analytics 😭

It’s a better version of punisher mode. You can gain two atb bars if all attack connects

I am wondering the same. In some story cutscenes you can do that which I barely noticed at first. Bottom left of some cutscenes is a very faded "hold Sqaure" icon. I am now wondering if this works on these battles or if perhaps it's just the way they have edited the video to show materia setup. I am going to try seeing if I can open the menu now next time I do VR missions lol

That’s what makes me question the purpose of this video. I mean it’s great to know an ideal loadout for a particular battle but you can only use one loadout when doing the gauntlet (back to back to back etc) fights. + what may be good for one is not particularly good for another so you need a general loadout to deal with them all. If you’re really good / know the boss mechanics / movesets picking one of these would be more viable but if you were good enough to do that you wouldn’t need a specific build to begin with.
@TheDaniyool Unfortunately, no. I have to slip in my build during in between the load times just so i wont waste someones time watching this vid. Cuz all other videos have upwards of 20 minutes duration for all these types of combat sims/gauntlet
@ddarrkknneezz Yep, i edited out the loading screens at first but it feels off. So i slip in my loadout in between the loading screens to make it feel seemless

What are the atb skills u use
I often just use braver, prime mode, focused trust and the enemy skill sonic boom + plasma discharge for the buff
So why the Transference Module, when you never used a limit break? Is there some hidden mechanic with it that helps here?
Honestly, the gears and equipment doesnt matter. I use that as my accessory just to show that i dont use/have the gotterdamerung. And i was testing it prior this fight with the one that grants more limit the more you guard, i forgot what it’s called. I think they’re both negligible? Anyways, i’m getting sidetracked.

This whole entire battle simulator bs has ruined this game for me. The difficulty spikes are all over the place. Ive spent like 2 hours using this guide and I just get slaughtered. Screw this game.
You can still enjoy the game without finishing all the simulator battles. Just play at your own pace

I linked fire&ice materia to elemental materia on my armor, hence the absorption. But you can achieve i-frames if u switch to Punisher mode at the right time, but only for melee attacks

As long as you linked it with another element, you should be good. In the vid, i used 1 to imbue my weapon with lightning and the other 1 i used to absorb fire and ice magic for my armor
I feel stupid, I have 200 hours of play and I am just discovering that this materia doesn't have the same function if you put it on your weapon or on your armor (lol).
I thought it provided the weapon and armor bonus no matter where it was placed ^^
I guess now you have another reason to try another playthrough hahaha
The game teaches you to do 1 vs 1 against all enemies even in the adventure once you have mastered this you can play 1 vs 1 in the story

How have you got so many top half materia slots on the buster sword?
Weapons will level up once you collect certain numbers of weapon manuscripts for each characters. For cloud, its the art of swordplay so dont miss out on that
