This is absolutely beautiful. I considered bying a Minilogue XD, but thought it would require a nice Reverb effect like Big Sky in order to make a good reverb, but what you have done with the built-in features sounds stunning. Hope my wife will forgive me for buying this piece of (extra ..) gear.

That's really nice. So the ocean wave sound is just white noise chords created by the minilogue XD? At first, I thought the ocean wave sound was a sound file you placed in there.
I really love this video! I'm curious, were the ocean wave sounds made with noise combined with the sequencer sounds, or were they recorded separately? Looking forward to your answer!❤❤❤
Glad you liked it ! Everything was recorded in one take with only the minilogue XD. To make the ocean waves I set the noise to post filter in the settings and used the LFO to modulate it's shape. The shape knob works like a low pass filter for the multi engine when "low noise" is selected so it gives this wave effect
@@PauldeChaumont I am currently using a synthesizer whose sequencer generates noise along with the main melody. Even with the LFO, I can't achieve a consistent wave pattern; it comes out in sections instead. I hope you can create a tutorial on this when you have time!
@@PauldeChaumont I can understand that the noise part in the video is modulated by the LFO to create wave sounds, but I don't understand why the noise can continue playing without being interrupted by the sequencer's main melody notes.
@@sansz7344 if you are on a different synth it might behave differently compared to the minilogue XD maybe try adding a lot of reverb and delay to smooth out the effect, Also make sure you have always one unused voice left so not all envelopes reset at each sequence step (for instance if your synth is 4 voice polyphonic only use 3 of those at a time in your sequence) I'd have to check the patch to see how I set up the different parameters such as key triggering setting
What are you doing to make that ocean effect? Plus I didn't know you can play multiple stuff at the same time? Or was that already recorded and you played over it?
@@vaknins33 The synth is 4 polyfonic, which means that you can play up to 4 note chords at a time. As long as your running sequence uses only max 3 notes, you can play with the keyboard on top of the sequenced loop as well. 1 note sequence/3 note melody on the keyboard, 2 note sequence/2 note melody and 3 note sequence/1 note melody. This does not include effects or layering the motion sequencer though. Even though the instrument is capable playing only 4 note polyfony, it plays much higher ammount of sounds. LFO can create fake echos and the actual devices effect engine can create it's own set of various sounds and noices, while unison and chord modes provide their own set of sounds and individual VCO pitches their own. It's perfectly possible to for example make your Monologue, which is a monophonic (1 note synth) to play set of different sounds at the same time, while using the LFO and VCO pitch. There also are the VCO octaves, which give you even more voice layering options.
Superbe! Du coup j'ai craqué et j'ai commandé un minilogue pour expérimenter du hardware ;-) Comme je ne m'y connais pas trop en hardware, je suppose qu'on peut utiliser un DAW comme séquenceur pour contrôler le minilogue? (j'utilise LogicPro). Merci.
In the program edit settings you can set which oscillator has to be modulated by the the LFO : either all oscillators, VCO1&2, VCO2 only or the multi engine
@@PauldeChaumont Paul, thanks for your reply. Just bought an XD and can't understand one thing - with all 3 oscillators turned off I still can generate a sound using filter + resonance (after 12PM both). Why does it happen? thank you, Paul
@@alexeyt2084 This sound comes from the filter : In simple terms, when increasing resonnance what it does is it "boosts" the frequencies depending on the cutoff position, and when boosting the frequencies high enough we hear them !
so soothing. well done. May i ask how you're recording/streaming the sounds? I too, have a minilogue xd and would like to upload something like this but do not know how to get started.
Thanks ! Well there's no overdubbing at all : the sequencer is playing 3 notes chords so out of the 4 voices there's always one that goes on and combined with the long reverb it gives the feeling that there is no voice cuts.
@@ronammar5021 I used the Lfo to modulate the shape of the noise (as the shape fonction kind of cuts out high frequencies when high noise is selected). I could have motion sequenced the volume of the multi engine but I liked the sound of the noise fading away when modulating its shape !
So no one is going to point out that it's not plugged in and he's listening to a prerecorded track through his headphones? I own the prologue and it doesn't even do this in terms of multi tracks lol

Wonderful composition! Ambient artists like you inspire me a lot.
one-time recordings are the best! That is real understanding of the gear! Super stuff!
The wave effect with the noise is genius!

Amazing creativity, using the noise as ocean sounds. So cool.
first thing i tried, really simple and mindfulfilling
I used to do this while driving and using the radio volume knob on an empty radio channel. Called it my ocean wave synth.
I keep coming back to listen to this... soooo beautiful! Pls come back and update more, it's been years since the last. ❤
Thankyou Paul. Simple yet beautiful and powerful.
This is awesome. Being able to bypass the filter with the digital engine almost makes it bi-timbral in a way.
