I just got the M5 for 299 Euros, which is basically half the price of the S4 - at that price differential, the M5 wins hands down. I would say the 2 biggest drawbacks of the M5 are the huge amount of uninstallable bloatware and the bizarre positioning of the buttons. Like the reviewer, I always use my tablets in landscape and the Huawei logo is along the landscape bottom edge (which reinforces that landscape is the way to go) and yet the power, volume and particularly the home button/fingerprint sensor are all along the right-hand portrait edge - arrgh! Very surprised the video didn't mention this - it's also too easy to hit the home button with your right thumb accidentally because of the poor placement for landscape users. I'm not even fond of the USB C port being in the bottom right in landscspe either, but that's not as critical. Game performance is very good with the M5 (latest firmware has a new GPU Turbo feature to improve things further) and the sound is probably the best I've ever heard coming out of a tablet's speakers. Overall, this is the best value 10” tablet in 2018, especially if you can get it at close to the price I paid via Amazon Italy (shipped to the UK where I am in only 4 days with no import duty/VAT).
Brilliant review. Good choice of feature comparisons , Clear well paced communication. One of the best reviewers I have seen and heard on RUclips. Thanks for making this.
Great video TK Bay. I still think you need that keyboard case and bluetooth mouse for the Tab S4, to make full use of DeX ;). I LOVE my Tab S4 even more since your last tablet comparison. I used to use a Chromebook and a Tab A ... now I have a tablet AND productivity device in one, and use its features to the fullest. One thing I'd like to know is, why Samsung hasn't included the Video Enhancement and Theme Store features into the Tab S4 (and S3) like they've had on the Galaxy phones since the Note 5.
So I reached out to Verizon and they did not have it for me to try, and as my time with the Tab S4 is coming to an end soon, Sadly I have to return it to them. but man is it a nice tablet
Thanks! Videos like this REALLY help decide what to go for :) I think the price is THE biggest difference between the two and Samsung does not have much to offer to justify that difference. SO yeah I'll go with the Mediapad too.

It's the comparison I needed. I use my tablet mostly for note taking and content consumption. I sold my Tab S3, because 4:3 is the worst when it comes to note taking and watching movies, especially 21:9 one. Needles to say that the half of the display is useless in this case. For reading however it's better than 16:9. Samsung has more software features for multi tasking and note taking than Huawei. Moreover it has some better specifications on paper (like Bluetooth 5, amoled display etc.) and SPen! I tried lot of different solutions but SPen is the best. Not to mention the missing headphone jack. Considering all these and after watching this video I think I go for Tab S4.
I'm sure there was an ASUS or something with AMOLED before too. It had a similar price even back then. Lenovo I don't remember what it's called though. Tab 3 Plus? I always forget which one it was. Been watching a few of your reviews to decide on tablets and these are basicly my top options right now... except I'd turn to the Tab S3 and not Tab S4. What do you think? I don't mind the rotation or anything, but I do mind a little that I can't charge and have a headset in the M5 at the same time by standard. And I'm most likely going to get a keyboard with for writing, I don't plan on playing games on it. Perhaps a little art.
I bought S4, because I recently upgraded from S1 to new S4. I've been waiting for this upgrade very long time. However, I still sense Samsung doesn't pay too much attention on new model S4, perhaps I used to buy Samsung phones. So, after comparison btw Samsung tablet n Samsung phones. The ideas just pop up from my head, Samsung just made this S4 because Samsung doesn't want to give up this tablet market. That's it. The mediapad m5 looks like the design from last generation. If Huawei can move fingerprint scan to the back of m5, it'll be better to hold it by your hands. Since m5 is much cheaper than S4. However, the performance of m5 is still worth enough for the price, if you don't want to pay too much money on just one tablet and you don't seek very high quality of design. M5 is still fine to you. I suppose.
I have to add a comment about the Tab S4 S Pen ... that button can be very hard to find in the dark. I found the Tab S3 button far too easy to hit the button by mistake when writing with the S Pen, which doesn't happen anymore with the Tab S4. But I find myself wasting time trying to find the S Pen button when I need it, because it fits in so flush with the shape of the pen. I think that's why the metal fin sticks out, to find the button below it.
The big issue with the Mediapad M5 in europe is that although priced more competivably (got mine for 310 euros new) most countries are stuck with the 32GB of storage version. It's a shame because there's nothing more to fault about it. This was probably to push people to the more expensive pro version. Beware that, you can't install apps on the sdcard, only part of their data, and you can't activate adoptable storage (that would unify sdcard storage and internal storage as one). So you are basically stuck and having to constantly moving your media and downloads from internal to sdcard if you have a few apps and want to keep internal storage available.
Trying to make a decision. Btw I see a great difference between those two tablets. You can connect easly a Samsung S4 to a tv, while with M5 pro you can't. Am I wrong? Another point. It's hard to find the original Huawei book cover for M5. The book cover for S4 it's too expensive on the other hand. So the question is just one: why I need a tablet. In my case it's just watching udemy in the metro :) So maybe I'll leave those tablets in order to start watching something less expensive like an M3, M5 lite... Samsung S3
the M5 lite is great option honestly ,I got a chance to see it and I like the functionality to price point. but the pro and the Tab S4 are just better equipped for gaming and multitasking better.

When it comes to tablets, the three most important things would be screen quality, weight and battery life, that being said, IPad is king of all three. If you prefer android devices than Samsung is king of all three.

I have the original Samsung Note Pro. After 4 years it's almost embarrassing slow and laggy. I am moving in from Samsung to Huawei. Wished it was bigger. I liked the 12 screen on the Note Pro and will miss it.

Why does Samsung realise a $649 tablet in 2018 with a 1.5 year old Snapdragon 835? It already lags behind A10x let alone A12X. They seem to not really take their tablets seriously.
Hi TK, I have the M5 and it's great, however my issue is with the screen when watching movies at night in bed. I find the screen bleed is very distracting compared to to OLED screen in my OnePlus 5t. Does the S4 work well in no light situations for media, if you could make a video comparing would be great👍
I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm debating between these two and 75% of my tablet viewing experience happens in the dark, in my bed. If the Huawei has light bleed I won't be able to unsee that. Thank you for helping me make a decision.
Hiii TK Bay Really thank you man it is nice video. TK bay i have doubts abt this product 1) does the mediapad support display out, if so which whic adaptor is suitable for it to connect it to external display and it should also charge the tab 2) i know that the s4 support display out but can u suggest me a adaptor that should also charge the tab faster and it should also help is connecting to external display Thank you very much
i like the m5 pro better becoz i prefer landscape mode set up better! i like were the buttons are at. and the picture is awesome and totally adjustable not to mention way better looking than samsung! this is an honest review! from TK ...
Amoled is by far superior to Ips Lcd and the ppi is higher on the Tab S4 you didn't mention that, Samsung prides the Amoled Display panel and its pixel count and colors and contrast major feature of The Tab S line that sets it above the rest.
With one is better Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 or Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro i have test the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 it have good software but it feel chep and i try the Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro and it feel good and better but the software was not good like Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and the price on Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is to high and Huawei MediaPad M5 is cheper so in dont know with one to buy with is better to buy
It depends on how you'll use item.People are saying the Samsung has the better pen but if you're like me and the pen is not important then go with the Medi pad non pro and really save some money.
How can the M5 be better than any tablets if you can't even use bluetooth and wifi at the same time without your connection going down like crazy? Guys are doing reviews like it's not even there, but it does change everything.
not every person will have the issue you are mentioning, some will use a headset or the speakers and that will change the experience. I am with you on the issue of the antenna, but for the price and the options it offers , it is still the better choice.
I was planning to buy the M5 pro but then I heard about the antenna issue... Shame on huawei! S4 is a bit more expensive but u have a great quality device then.
I am planning to get one and I think I will get the tab s4 I love samsung dex and now I don't have to buy the station also I will use it to watch videos and Netflix also the display is great and for the game I dont play pubg or fortnite most of my games card game so it will be great for me plus the S pen I like it a lot more price than the media pad but it's better.
The S4's front camera works very well for video chat and face unlock in landscape, So I don't know why you're giving the mediapad the nod for landscape functionality... The S4'S is more versatile, more powerful and the screen is better.. S4 for the win, but the mediapad does have better speakers
no question that the S4 is a better tablet all around, but for the price to features the mediapad is better for the person that wants to spend less and still get a good experience . I like the S4 still. it's a massive note for me

what are your thoughts on Google ending android tablet support, therefore the Tab S4 most likely not going to get any OS updates past Oreo? Is that a deal breaker? Should that be a deal breaker?
For what we use tablets for I would say it definitely made the lifespan shorter, but I would not be surprised if Samsung puts tizen on it and. Moves forward. You know.
Google is not ending tablet support! They have stopped supporting THEIR Pixel tablet because they cant make money with it. Android updates will continue to be released. Please make video of huawei m5 10 vs Samsung s5e.
I'm confused with these two.
How much time you getting in huawei when watching movies only
Informative comparison. Thanx!
thank you
Anyone else sick of hitting the power button on the mediapad yet??? Or when trying hit the space bar while typing accidentally hitting one of the bottom 3 buttons???? Outside of that stuff it's amazing!
Great review, thanks. But, you didn't mentioned about calling features..
thank you, so the US versions of these tablets do not support calling only the EU variant do. that is why i did not mention it in the video.
@@TKBay why is there no call support here in the U.S.?
You have a great voice and speak fast but it is harder to follow because of the music in the background.
When it comes to tablets, the three most important things would be screen quality, weight and battery life, that being said, IPad is king of all three. If you prefer android devices than Samsung is king of all three.
Hello Sir.. A Huge Fan!
I wanted to buy this tablet available in US for use in India from the Black Friday sale.. Will the Bluetooth and WiFi connection and settings on it, work when I use it in India?
If you can brief me about the SIM usage as well?
Thanks
So the tablet will work perfectly in India as well as it would here. These models here don't have a sim. The model on sale on black Friday is the standard model no sim support
@@TKBay Ok thanks sir..So I'll buy from this week's sale knowing now that the wifi n Bluetooth will work in India for US tablets as well!
I mainly want a tablet for browsing, seeing videos and reading PDFs.. So hopefully, this fulfils the purpose.. :)
Also sir.. Is there any issue with simultaneous usage of wifi n Bluetooth in Huawei tablet? As in when switching them both on, one of them doesn't work?
Both work for me although some have reported issue with it. I did not see that as an issue.
give me a new SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 12.2... mine current one is 5 years old
this is not mine , I gave it back after the video
@@TKBay which do you personally own?
Duude chill
I have the original Samsung Note Pro. After 4 years it's almost embarrassing slow and laggy. I am moving in from Samsung to Huawei. Wished it was bigger. I liked the 12 screen on the Note Pro and will miss it.
Hey please tell : is this huawei mediapad m5 or m5 pro has only one antenna that means it will lag while playing with Internet and using Bluetooth headphones . Or does it have multi antenna?
The media pad I feel is better. It's allot cheaper to.
great bang for the buck
perfect review thank you . love the sound on the Huawei and price its samsung totally and i thought it was going to be a big difference in screen amoled and led but Huawei looked as good as Samsung , I did think though Samsung looked redder on the white than the huawei did ........by the way did you have blue light on the samsung ??? must had because the white looks really bad
the tab looks a lot better in person. the lighting might have affect it
Why does Samsung realise a $649 tablet in 2018 with a 1.5 year old Snapdragon 835? It already lags behind A10x let alone A12X. They seem to not really take their tablets seriously.
Outstanding! Loved it! Thank you!
Thank you for the support
Which one is good for studing???
Im confused
Answer plzzzz
both will do a great job for r school work and watching lectures. the mediapad has a bigger battery and should last you longer
both just as good as each other😁
Hi TK,
I have the M5 and it's great, however my issue is with the screen when watching movies at night in bed. I find the screen bleed is very distracting compared to to OLED screen in my OnePlus 5t. Does the S4 work well in no light situations for media, if you could make a video comparing would be great👍
thanks man, the screen is better in low light environments for sure. not sure if you have a bad display unit, but it should not be that bad at night .
I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm debating between these two and 75% of my tablet viewing experience happens in the dark, in my bed. If the Huawei has light bleed I won't be able to unsee that. Thank you for helping me make a decision.
Another reason why AMOLED is the best. I'm on my OnePlus 6T all day so the LCD panel just won't cut it.
Yeah my mediapad has disgusting backlight. My tab s2 has a much better screen I will sell this garbage
@@TheChocohunter I sold mine last week, with all the high praise this tablet got, no one used it in the dark? Bought the tab S4 and it's great
perfect comparison, gr8 job!
Thank you for the support
Fantastic review and I'm now set on the Huawei media T5
Thank you
Great choice
Hiii TK Bay
Really thank you man it is nice video.
TK bay i have doubts abt this product
1) does the mediapad support display out, if so which whic adaptor is suitable for it to connect it to external display and it should also charge the tab
2) i know that the s4 support display out but can u suggest me a adaptor that should also charge the tab faster and it should also help is connecting to external display
Thank you very much
Great review. Thanks!
Thank you for the support
Mediapad M5 is a beast and it's cheaper.... and it's faster.... and it has better third party root support.
nice
Did you tried pen hardworking use ?
What is the best budget tablet studies im only using it in note taking. Thx
Amoled s4 or ips m5 pro? Which display is better?
Amoled is way better and way more expensive.
i like the m5 pro better becoz i prefer landscape mode set up better! i like were the buttons are at. and the picture is awesome and totally adjustable not to mention way better looking than samsung! this is an honest review! from TK ...
Amoled is by far superior to Ips Lcd and the ppi is higher on the Tab S4 you didn't mention that, Samsung prides the Amoled Display panel and its pixel count and colors and contrast major feature of The Tab S line that sets it above the rest.
But my question is. Is it possible to bring the on screen buttons back for home return and recent apps?
But what's the Pen sensitivity differences between the two?The Samsung is great for drawing apps but how good is the Media pad pen?
is it true that amoled will burn out after couple years? ips will be more safe to work?
Very very comprehenecive . Thanks
Hi, can we use usb c to ethernet cable with mediapad 10.8?will it work?
With one is better Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 or Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro i have test the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 it have good software but it feel chep and i try the Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro and it feel good and better but the software was not good like Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and the price on Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is to high and Huawei MediaPad M5 is cheper so in dont know with one to buy with is better to buy
Hardware Wise the tab s4 is better, but the media pad is better priced for the features
@@TKBay I got the tab s4 with official keyboard cover for 500 euro or just the mediapad m5 for 340 what do you think? I'm leaning towards the first..
You said the galaxy tab s4 feels cheap. It's made of glass front and back. So shows how much you know.
The MediaPad M5, once rooted, is an absolute monster for the price!
It depends on how you'll use item.People are saying the Samsung has the better pen but if you're like me and the pen is not important then go with the Medi pad non pro and really save some money.
Do you think I should update my Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro or will it run slower after the update?
Were you using two different files for the benchmark or just one?
Which one i can use as phone?
Huawei medipad m5. Own it Better Tablet cheaper in price,10x better than Samsung
Had you had any issues with using Bluetooth and WiFi at the same time?
@@MarvFitBikesKicks one of the owner reviewers said yes. It lags so bad when u use bluetooth and wifi together.
Can mediapad pro support MS Excel?since sometime i need it to edit somethng for my docs.
yes the office suite is supported just like other tablets.
galaxy tab s4 with 256gb lte model got 6gb of flash memory RAM
Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro is good and great:)
4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM@@edulinkmalaysia1505
MediaPad m5 almost half the price of Samsung tab s4 getting good deal for MediaPad m5. Huawei MediaPad is 16:10 and Samsung tab s4 is 4:3 aspect ratio
Tom Benninga thanks for correcting me on this statement.
I liked the video, thank you, I'm from Iraq

I was planning to buy the M5 pro but then I heard about the antenna issue... Shame on huawei!
S4 is a bit more expensive but u have a great quality device then.
I've not heard about the Antenna issue(s) - what is that all about?
Which would you recommend the Samsung Tab S4 or The Huawei Mediapad?
My current phone is a Note 9?
for the price the mediapad, but if that is not an issue the tab s4
@@TKBay Thanks for the feedback.
samsung tab s4 can make voice calls/ txt messages, can huawei m5 pro do the same?
Yes, the LTE version can I have one of them.
the mediapad speaker definitely better
and better position as you cannot block them while watching movies
Can you use bluetooth headphones for M5?
Yes it supports BT
Thank you very much,cheer.
Thank you for the support
I like the S4 still. it's a massive note for me
I wonder how much the review would change with the new update next month with GPUTurbo addition on the huawei?
not sure if the Kirin 960 support GPU turbo tbh, my understanding that it would have to be a soc with the NPU
@@TKBay I wondered this, but xda has reported threads of Chinese versions of the m5 and m5 pro with the GPUturbo update. I May have to keep an eye out on some reviews.
@@TKBay kirin 960s on the non pro huawei mediapad m5 has a NPU..the pro version has the normal kirin 960 without the NPU..the video above stated this was the 960s but the pro is the 960
you are correct the pro has the none S.
For the money, you can't go wrong with a quick charge USB C , Huawei, no Samsung in that price range will match the bang for the buck. Try using a mini USB and charge it with brightness on. Hands down Huawei. Giving my Samsung s2 tablet to my daughter. Pos
I can't choose between the two tablets, it seems like both are really good, but the Samsung galaxy tab s4 has Bixby and other different features, but then again it is more expensive...Idk which to choose, cause i'm leaning towards buying the Galaxy tab s4 but since it is so expensive, is it worth it?
Samsung galaxy tab s4 (599€)
Huawei mediapad M5 (439€)
I'd use it for school, watching movies and maybe some gaming
for what you are looking for the Mediapad is the way to go honestly , save the money and It do great for what you are looking for
What is better ❓
I would never buy a tablet with an amoled display since it will wear out over time and i plan to use the tablet for atleast 3-4 years. I got a Samsung S7 which is a little over 2 years old and the display looks really bad when looking (e.g.) at a white picture in fullscreen mode.
yea, one of the downsides of AMOLED
hmm i have a 2year+ old S7 edge and i have no problem when i lock on white or other colors picture in fullscreen
@@hellmixx Especially the top bar with notifications and battery status is strongly burned into the display. Either you are lucky, you dont use your smartphone that much or you simply don't see the irregularities.
I have 3 years old note 5. It has no problem so far (except for problematic spen).
@@so7o3o4 well, i also had almost zero problems with screen burning on my Samsung Galaxy S4 over three years, before i bought the S7. Bunt now it annoys me and o do not want to take the risk with a tablet.
how long battery last on m5 pro?
what are your thoughts on Google ending android tablet support, therefore the Tab S4 most likely not going to get any OS updates past Oreo? Is that a deal breaker? Should that be a deal breaker?
For what we use tablets for I would say it definitely made the lifespan shorter, but I would not be surprised if Samsung puts tizen on it and. Moves forward. You know.
Google is not ending tablet support! They have stopped supporting THEIR Pixel tablet because they cant make money with it. Android updates will continue to be released. It's up to Samsung and Huawei to support them. Samsung has committed to supporting their S line for 3-4 years. Not sure about Huawei.
Can I ask you if I can touch the screen while I'm using the pen in huawei or not ? I mean my skin will affect when we use the pen ? .. I hope that you get my question. 😂💔
I like more the form factor of the Samsung but for a tablet I might go for the Huawei for more value.
True the Huawei is priced better for sure the one without the pen is even cheaper.
So sad huawei processor is kirin if it is snapdragon i will definitely go for huawei
@@leewengfei6658 actually I like the Kirin CPU because it's well optimized, you can have the device for more than a year and the device is still running at great speed, but maybe you want compatibility with a particular thing which is only for Snapdragon.
@@Chemy. but have you use huawei phone? Because my last phone is huawei p10 plus and after 3month uses some of the apps not responding sometime , and when you play game just about 10min the phone is getting seriously high temperature, now im using note 8 didnt have any issues except the battery life and charging speed is better on the huawei
@@Chemy. not really sure is mine p10 plus problem or every huawei problem
both are good 👍👍👍👍
great tablet yes for sure
So thats what David Vonderhaar has been doing this days
LOLs
Samsung Tab can duplicate the screen via usb c or can be used in double screen option, external screen plus tablet screen with two independent apps. No way the Huawei can do the same...
the Tab is better no argument from me , but for a price, if you want the great features of the Tab I would say get that as it will work great for you. others might not need that feature and would be happy with the Mediapad
M5 far better people just can't accept that Huawei is taking over
it's a preference but yea its a great deal for sure
@Vince Friel sound but both are pretty much the same i mean for movies they both do the job and are really smooth the samsung has a more clean color in my opinion if only mediapad came in black
Dude it's not. The screen is crap with blacklight bleed cheap feeling just like the price
Huawei is Spy gadget made my China!
Does the M5 get the 9.0 pie?
I imagine that it won't get anything above 8.1
I believe the M5 also has Dolby Atmos
they have tuning not dolby but yea they have a great EQ built in
