At the same time, I think it's also healthy to normalize inspirations-- rather than the two extremes of calling a game a rip off or just not acknowledging its inspirations whatsoever. This is how genres get made, afterall. We wouldn't have metroidvanias or rougelikes if it weren't for game devs getting inspired by other games

When i used to do architecture for clients, talking with other architects about inspiration and details, this was ALL we did. Comparing. This and that, a type of window here, a type of facade element there. Comparison is a strong tool in education AND evaluation. Devs are so thin skinned.
on the other hand, if compared to Minecraft this game is better or worse, that should be discussed. It's best not to normalize making certain topics taboo for no reason. Especially if the person playing regularly plays Minecraft, its not wrong to draw comparison. Judging it on it own merit isn't mutually exclusive from comparison you're taking the merits of the game and putting side by side to the other.

Genuine question cuz idk much abt hytale but why isn’t it a minecraft rip off? Not trying to be rude I just haven’t been on the discourse but so far it seems very much a similar game to Minecraft. The tools are the same, inventory’s the same, health and food are very similar, etc. What about it makes it different than a heavily modded Minecraft or what are there plans in the future that will make it not seem like Minecraft? Different mods? Or maybe like new realms or things your able to do that aren’t possible in Minecraft?

Its very nice to watch. I don't think I would like Hytale, and had no interest in it, but I watched this video and stayed up an hour past my bedtime to finish it because I enjoyed seeing such casual gameplay. It's what I miss about Minecraft let's plays. Just watching you learn how to build, fill chests, explore. My favorite part is when you start to build and look into the workbenches and stuff. It's really refreshing!
Real. The only "playing Minecraft for the first time" videos are by like kids who shouldn't even be on the platform right now, it's AMAZING to see that kind of content again.
What I like the most about Hytale over MC is that although it is a block based game, models don't necessarily have to be plain old cubes. Mojang knows this, and Hypixel showed them up with tree branches, ores, mobs... Zombies and skeletons in MC feel like mannequins. Here they feel alive, expressive, really walking and running and not sliding over the ground and moving their stiff limbs.
I swear every Minecraft RUclipsr has uploaded hytale within the last week, like literally I have seen like a dozen videos of hytale from like my 15 Minecraft RUclipsrs

I was watching other hermits during this stream and the moment you came back from your adventure decked out in cool gear on a skeleton horse, that's when I was sold on this game.
I think comparison is healthy for both games as they both appeal to a similar gamer. Competition breeds innovation which is something people have been saying minecraft needs for a while now.
I always hated those Minecraft mods that were basically their own game. Like way too real, not Minecrafty at all, and just over the top in a way I can't stand. But even though it screams of one of those mods, it's oddly fun. It landed on my radar for SURE and I'll wait to see more of it.
I feel like at least for me watching games like this where the grind is necessary is a fun element. Minecraft can really quickly evolve into random things where I feel like this holds the length of progression a lot better. You are truly watching people play the game instead of watching people live in the end game for the whole season.
See what's going to be amazing is if you start doing your Life series on Hytale. You don't have to worry about others having to install any of your mods. As only the server host needs them. And its just plain easier to mod Hytale than MC.

@vonborgah untrue, if you punch berry bushes you destroy the bush but with F you just harvest them and the berries can regrow. In a different manner if you want flower petals to dye stuff you need to punch them, but to collect them as decorations you actually have to pick them up with F. Completely different outcomes.
You mentioned that you’re not sure if Hytale would be fun to watch. I totally enjoy watching this. I downloaded it and throughly enjoy watching you play and explore. It’s an awesome game.
17:23 the stacks in Minecraft are 64 because you can keep splitting in perfect halves all the way down to 1. If it was 50 it would go 50, 25, but then it would have to be 13 and 12.

Yeah theres not that much in it yet. World gen is not done yet. The exploration is very minimal due to this. Almost all farming, ranching, etc base stuff are not implemented yet. Bosses and dimension are not implemented. Progression is minimal currently with only few tiers, magic barely ingame yet. Mega building is not viable yet. And who knows whats to come, redstone equivelant, monsrer raids to your base, mounts of all kinds from sea to sky.
I watched it live so it got kept from me for 0 seconds while watching twitch chat go insane yelling at grian that we couldn’t hear the others for around 20 minutes.

@cheddarsunchipsyes8144 it's not a nether portal tho. No obsidian, different shape. The only thing that matches is the purple color, and that is more due to purple color being tied to the bad guys then to the nether portal
@gizmo5099 there are different 'workbenches', the food works differently; you dont have hunger; you have stamina; building is different etc.

Its very nice to watch. I don't think I would like Hytale, and had no interest in it, but I watched this video and stayed up an hour past my bedtime to finish it because I enjoyed seeing such casual gameplay. It's what I miss about Minecraft let's plays. Just watching you learn how to build, fill chests, explore. My favorite part is when you start to build and look into the workbenches and stuff. It's really refreshing!
Real. The only "playing Minecraft for the first time" videos are by like kids who shouldn't even be on the platform right now, it's AMAZING to see that kind of content again.
What I like the most about Hytale over MC is that although it is a block based game, models don't necessarily have to be plain old cubes. Mojang knows this, and Hypixel showed them up with tree branches, ores, mobs... Zombies and skeletons in MC feel like mannequins. Here they feel alive, expressive, really walking and running and not sliding over the ground and moving their stiff limbs.

I think comparison is healthy for both games as they both appeal to a similar gamer. Competition breeds innovation which is something people have been saying minecraft needs for a while now.

I always hated those Minecraft mods that were basically their own game. Like way too real, not Minecrafty at all, and just over the top in a way I can't stand. But even though it screams of one of those mods, it's oddly fun. It landed on my radar for SURE and I'll wait to see more of it.

I feel like at least for me watching games like this where the grind is necessary is a fun element. Minecraft can really quickly evolve into random things where I feel like this holds the length of progression a lot better. You are truly watching people play the game instead of watching people live in the end game for the whole season.

See what's going to be amazing is if you start doing your Life series on Hytale. You don't have to worry about others having to install any of your mods. As only the server host needs them. And its just plain easier to mod Hytale than MC.

@vonborgah untrue, if you punch berry bushes you destroy the bush but with F you just harvest them and the berries can regrow. In a different manner if you want flower petals to dye stuff you need to punch them, but to collect them as decorations you actually have to pick them up with F. Completely different outcomes.

I'd love to see more content on Hytale from the hermits! It's still very early in the alpha, so it's understandable if you guys want to wait for the devs to flesh it out more before you start making content. Regardless, I'd be looking forward to it :D ❤️
Yeah theres not that much in it yet. World gen is not done yet. The exploration is very minimal due to this. Almost all farming, ranching, etc base stuff are not implemented yet. Bosses and dimension are not implemented. Progression is minimal currently with only few tiers, magic barely ingame yet. Mega building is not viable yet. And who knows whats to come, redstone equivelant, monsrer raids to your base, mounts of all kinds from sea to sky.
