it's funny how this show's pilot was lost for the longest time while Amphibia and Owl House, which were newer shows had their pilots found way earlier in their run.
I'd say the pilot looks really awesome, but the changes were positive. That said, I wouldn't have minded if there were more episodes closer to it with more bumps, bruises, wacky ways for Star to punch her monster problems, and Marco/Sol being a bit more of a grump.

lol have you seen the Steven Universe one? and there's Lakewood Plaza Turbo. Adventure Time's aired on Nickelodeon long before the show proper was made. or try looking up the origin of Regular Show, not the pilot, but what came before that.
One interesting note. Some of Skullnyck and Star's actual dialogue was reused in Matchmaker. Star saying hi to Jackie and Skullnyck's comments about being dumped by the monster.
I think you're absolutely right, especially about Tom's final design change. Also about Star's outfit in the final scene, I totally agree. I really wish we could see a star in shorts or leggings, that would be cool.
Need to go back and watch Star, even though it feels really weird to go over a show's pilot long after the show's ended. It looks really cool, and I have an appreciation for what cartoons looked like in their early stages.
It’s Starco plot is what ruined the show 😩 if we get more of the show like a reboot or a spin off I’d want it to be about the previous queens of Mewni, or just Eclipsa and Globgor

Have you not seen the Rugrats Pilot episode? It's only to introduce the idea and characters, how they want it to be like and they revise from there to make it more appealing to the general public.
