When I found one of the Dixon's when I was in high school, a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away, I felt I had found gold and tried to keep from losing it from class to class, day after day. I bought a 24 pk a few weeks ago and still feel the love. They are too dark for most of my watercolor studies, but if I want them, they are there. Thanks for the review Marty. Good seeing you again!
The pencils quality has dropped considerably since it's being manufacturer in China and Mexico. A very good article in the Washington post dated 9/27/2018 about this company.
I’ve found the Ticonderoga pencils depending on which you get perform different the blacks are still the closest to the ones I used as a kid the yellows now aren’t great the renews are my favorites
I love those pencils. Ruby from 8 Passengers said they are amazing 🌠. I will definitely be buying those pencils for drawing and for my college night classes 🌙. 😊❤
It cuts costs for the manufacturer, but pencils that are sold unsharpened are aggravating enough to put me off buying them. Mind you, I use mechanical pencils mostly when drawing in graphite. I think you have to try really hard to get a bog standard HB pencil from a household brand that's terrible quality. But yup, the most important thing to do is pick it up and draw with it. Lots of sketching on copy paper with a cheap pencil will advance your ability lots more than a Palomino Blackwing pencil and a Moleskine notebook you're afraid to use.
Senghe Wow! I really like the way you put it about using a cheap pencil and copy paper. That's exactly how I learned and I often return to those as basic go to tools. I'm not afraid of creating a masterpiece on cheap paper. If I can achieve something good, I might put it to use on a nicer material. As far as unsharpened pencils go, I don't really mind sharpening them because it gives me a chance to use some different sharpening tools. Thanks for the notes Senge, I really appreciate it.
I collect pencils and Believe or not they don't have the same live darkness I love those pencils but some of those are darker than others especially if they made in China I feel that they are darker than the ones made in Mexico
I feel like the Ticonderoga especially the black are really their only good products. I just love the aesthetics of the black are the best. I just don't like yellow pencils and the pink/red erasers. That's why I like the black the most.
***** For sure, personal preference plays a big role in what you like to draw with. For me I have good memories associated with the classic yellow #2 pencil. :-)
+Imran A. Mughal Hi Imran - I'm not nostalgic, but the old ones were somewhat better. The Mexican pencils are pretty good though. The Chinese one's less so. - Marty
Owings Art I agree that the Mexican ones are better than the Chinese (which sometimes have crooked samples) but even with the Mexican ones, I feel a grittiness at some points during writing (clay-graphite mixture not homogeneous). Have you encountered this issue with the Mexican ones?
Well number 2 are HB and HB pecils are the work horse in the fine arts. They give a great range. All you need is 3 pencils a HB 2B and 2H you can get a huge range with these 3. Especially with a white back round since it makes everything look darker.
I think it is just a different label. "Soft" is just another way of translating #2/HB. Some people have said that the pencils with "soft" on them are worse...I don't know because I have never had them. The Ticonderoga brand seems rather inconsistent.
omg these are my favorite pencils
my suzy sheep leblanc is always using those ticonderoga black yellow pencils

TerrieJ DimestoreDivaTV Hi Terrie 👍🏻😃
Try the Ticonderoga Medium #2.5 F pencil! I use them because the normal #2 HB Soft is too dark
I bought some of the Prang and I love the shape and the fact that they are eaier for me because of the Arthuris. Thank you.
Nice.

These are the only normal wood pencils I use if I don't have a mechanical pencil!
simplythatcrazygirl For sure! They're decent pencils and sturdy. Thanks for the not Crazy girl. :-)

I live in Ticonderoga and my dad remembers when a guy started a shop and started making these pencils Btw number one best pencils
:-) They are pretty darn good.
I love this brand :)
+nightstar1219 They're solid built.

:-)

+lura garcia Agreed!
I feel bad for these wooden pencils not used by most middle schoolers and highschoolers, i tried to used them now cuz i feel bad for not being used

Hi Mr. Marty,
Do you feel the difference between the Ticonderoga's today (Mexico/China) versus the one that were made in USA a few years back?
Thanks!

Imran A. Mughal I haven't really had that problem, but my use of these is not extensive. - Marty
Owings Art Thank you for your input!
Owings Art I think you need a different sharpener
Hey Marty, just wanted to say: Dixon's Prang also has a line of watercolour pans.
Bea Gabrielle D. Alea Hi Bea - I haven't tried those, maybe I should add them to the list.

BIC Evolution pencils are the best.
@@ZENnightcore Don't get above yourself.
Im judt asking. why is there a regular yellow ticonderoga then theres a ticonderoga SOFT ? is it softer or what ?
I think the lead may be softer yes.
Owings Art okay thanks

What sharpener for triconderoga?
M&R.
Good thing I kept my prang colored pencils
I meant they don't have the lead darkness
"The World's Best Pencil" --> it's actually true, not just a marketing slogan.
+ShadowsMasquerade :-)
No its simply the Americans wanting to be the best at everything......NOT TRUE.
